Many cry & complain about the pay-per-view situation in boxing, I'm probably the only one who's all for more PPV's....
Cheap-skates will still buy black boxes and watch, or go to their buddy's house who's kickin' down $50 to order the card....
PPV the only time that we're guaranteed a good fight.... when ESPN has 3-4 bouts that pit a nobody vs. a nobody, or a contender vs. a bum, the entire card just stinks...HBO's only competitive fight on WCB this year was Morales-Raheem, which was supposed to be a walk-over but Raheem ruined the party....on every PPV card, there's at least 1 solid bout or highlight-reel KO for me & the fellas to talk about....
Plus, without major corporate sponsorships, PPV is the only way to get the top fighters to fight, because THIS IS HOW PROMOTERS MAKE THEIR $$$$
example: Morales-Pacquaio 1 had 350K buys, at $50 a pop, that's OVER $17 MILLION, with only about $3-4 million going to the main event fighters, that's what I call GREAT BUSINESS!
deal with it children, PPV is the only thing good about boxing these days....Showtime sux, HBO WCB and BAD both suck, and ESPN sux, only the PPV cards those companies put on are worth my hard-earned $

Why doesent somebody take the middle ground here.....
I think if they made solid cards with say 2 title fights and some good undercard matchups and charge say 25-30 bucks, you could more than double the amount of buys and make more money in the process.
We don't need PPV's, they don't guarantee good fights. Castillo/Corrales 2? WOrth $50? Hahahahaha, fuck no. Sam Peter vs Wlad which wasn't a PPV was a much better fight.
I'd rather watch 2 equally matched nobodys fight than overrated opponents that end fights in 4.
SacTown, moronest thing I've heard someone say...
The sport will DIE with more PPVS!
That's the only reason 90% of the people I know dont watch boxing!
while we're on don king, let's not forget to mention the tournament that he set up many years ago was literally "set up." the guy's a fuckin' crook anyway you look at it.
and that guy he stomped to death, was for a mere $600. isn't that the kind of shit you break a finger or two for? he only served a few years in jail.
yeah if you want to shell out $40-$50 bucks twice in a month which is about the cost of a months cable bill alone...go right ahead...not everyone has the funds for an extra utility bill...
I say 3-4 SET PPVs a year with the big fights...
Don King also stomped a man to death and illegally bribed judges and the Ring Magazine and he's a two-faced guy as well as being a thief, robbing his fighters of their deserved money.
here are 3 reasons why big-time boxing will NEVER be on a network:
Leavander Johnson
Jimmy Garcia
Pedro Alcazar
any coincidence that all 3 passed away on big PPV cards? I think not
networks aren't going to risk the chance of a fighter passing away on one of their shows, because you LOSE SPONSORS....HBO and HBO-PPV don't have but maybe 2-3 sponsors, which usually amount to a beer company, liquor company, or internet provider.....networks get the big sponsorships: soft drinks, fast food, cars, military, and junk food, networks will NEVER risk losing those sponsorships, so big-time boxing won't be on network TV in our lifetime
Nicely said.
What amazes me is how poor the ratings are for boxing. As a sport we need to fing out why people got so turned off of it. (corruption being a big one I'd guess) and fix the problems. I think the show contender, like it or hate it made some gains popularizing boxing to the main stream. I would love to see the day when big fights are on network TV. (I dont think I will live that long)

PPV system is alright but when u have Tua vs iuno, Mercer Briggs, and other garbage like that its a joke...but hey if people buy that shit more power to the people who charge for it
We need more PPV's!!!
Sactown has a point...PPV is what makes boxing exciting because thats where all the great matchups are.
Phuck a ppv, how bout we just get better match ups...I think for boxing to get back to where it once was, we as fans need to get more educated about boxing..and believing that the only good fighters are undefeated, but that's the promoters of the sports problem not mine...Everybody wants to see undeafeated fighters, granted some are really good, like mayweather, hatton and few others, but all the Great fighters had more than one L on their record...

Sactown = Don King
that's maybe the greatest compliment I've ever received, thanks homey
PS did you know DK donated a $350K firetruck to the NYFD 2 days after the 9/11 tragedy?
Or that when he had an exclusive Showtime contract, he donated $5K to the United Negro College Fund during EVERY fight card?
thanx again 4 the compliment
