Castillo-Corrales II PPV numbers lower than expected!
By G. Leon
October 12, 2005 - Although the exact number has yet to be released, impeccable sources have informed Boxingtalk.com that the Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo Showtime PPV generated 75,000-100,000 homes less than the 350,000 homes Showtime was expecting. There will be much more to follow later today so stay tuned to our front page for all the latest. (11:25 AM EST)
Also, Castillo cheated in the rematch.
Lol, that particular quote was in response to an ongoing debate over it being implied that it's all Castillo's fault the ppv sales didnt do better, and about somehow diego deserved a ppv fight while jl didnt
Either way, I dont consider it cheating because not making wt. is nothing new to the sport, and it had nothing to do with the win since diego still outweighed castillo come fight time.
The whole mess is a classic double standard, and if they were to fight again diego would still lose. He only won the first fight cause he actually DID cheat.
Okay, and Castillo won the rematch....looked spectacular doing it. He's fought great opposition pre corrales and I wont take a 'guess' on how many peoples p-4-p list he's on cause I just dont know. So, in other words, I see no difference.
Also, Castillo cheated in the rematch.
Hopefully the numbers are better than what is expected now. Both fighters deserve to be house hold names. Its funny HBO PPV's always do better than showtime PPV's no matter how crapy the card is.
it's no secret really.
HBO PPV got betta presentation, betta commentator, betta way of promoting fights!!!!
Show PPV seems like they need quick cash to pay of their debts. LOL!!!!!!

The rematch happened too soon!!!
In a fight like that, that was so dramatic, people like to sit back and think about it for a while, before wtaching the same fighters do it again...Unlike most people I really wasn't interested in seeing them fight so soon, because in 6 months how could they show anything more than they did the first fight. I believe they needed to fight atleast one other opponent before stepping in teh ring with each other again, so they could improve and have time to practice on what they learned about each other and themselves in that first fight...I would have rather seen them in their with someone else and then face each other again next year around the same time as the first fight, then the shit would have been a highly anticipated rematch, instead of the fiasco that took place last week from the weigh in until corrales got laid out...
Karma for that. I agree completely. If they are going to do it again, they need to fight another guy or two between now and then.
wow it amazes me how anyone espaecially a fight fan, would choose a paddy cake fight over the other.
it wasn't me it was my brothers idea so i just pitched in...now im mad and broke!
Why we won't see Castillo vs Corralles III
Another example of how most people have LOUSY taste.
This fight had some great word of mouth.....I though it would have sold better.
Perhaps those passing on the good words should have thrown in how Corrales once hit his pregnant wife ? Maybe that would have given it the Tyson-effect ?

i wanted to get it soo bad but i wasted money on the roy fight and couldn't afford the fight seeing how it was a week after the jones fight...damnit i really missed out too

100K PPV buys is disgusting, insulting, and disheartening considering that Roy Jones and Toney Tarver got 405K.
What a fucking joke!
I hold Jones and Tarver directly responsible, they ripped off fight fans so bad the week before that there was no way most were about to shell out another $50.
Thanks alot Toney and Roy, you both owe Chico and Castillo a couple hundred grand each!

Diego got PPV fight cuz HE WON!!!! Spectacular may I add by way of surprising comeback. He's been consistent pre Corrales vs Castillo 2 and WAS HIGH ON ERRRBODY' P4P list! He deserved ta PPV fight.

if youre gonna base it on that, then how did diego get a ppv fight (against castillo 2nd time around) when he cheated to get a very controversial win his last fight??

14 times now. and I MUST SAY, WIT ALL HONESTY I can muster....BIASEDNESS THROWIN iT IN TA GARBAGE.....
BOBBY PACQUIAO IMO WON TA FIGHT by a POINT!
props for having it atleast that close.
LOL. I doubt Castillo's next fight is PPV. UNLESS HE IS FIGHTIN an HBO fighta THAT IS BIGGA DRAW than him. Ummm say. Cotto. But Cotto would be ta main attraction.
As it stands.... Castillo won a VERRRRY controversial fight in which many people believe he cheated. I doubt he can get a mega PPV fight soon. And like most said, ta 3rd fight (IF THERE WILL BE 1)most probably won't be on PPV again.

speaking of bobby, did you get a chance to watch it yet?

ahhh come on, it's not like there werent two guys fighting. I know the reason I bought it..for CASTILLO. Other than that, I knew it had great potential cause of the first fight..but JL's name is the ticket seller for me between the two, and I'm definately not the only one.

they dint actually. Ta PPV was a disappointment wasn't it????
Ta only good thing that happened OCt 8, Showtime PPV was ta reborn of SpongeBobby Pacquiao. It was a good fight and ta right man won!!!!
Bobby......WE ON TA MAP BABY!!!!!!!!!!
Who next? Who next?!!! Who FUCKIN NEXT?!!!!
speaking of bobby, did you get a chance to watch it yet?
they have no idea how badly theyre screwing themselves then. Just cause it's a name they recognize, dont make it good. Maybe Tysons last "fight" helped them figure that one out.
