"Irish" John Duddy will be back in NYC co headlining "Homecoming" boxing event. They said it will feature Shannon Briggs. The card will also feature my boy i've also told a few ppl on this board about James Moore who 3-0 (2 KO's. It is taking place at Hammerstien i believe so hopefully MSG will pick it up and replay the ifght, eventhough I fully intend on going. Supposedly the rumor is Duddy will be fighting for a NY state title, but neither that or a opponet has been confirmed yet.
Yeah, Duddy has some nice KO power in both hands, but for him to develop a jab is ESSENTIAL. If he has a nice, snappy jab to go along with his power in both hands he should be a force in the division. Oh and btw, the Coleman fight should of been stopped earlier (TKO) or if it wasn't for Coleman's insane chin fight would be over in 4 rounds. But that Pierre guy does suck...fights like a poor man's Tyson...
yeah thats what i heard. when i see rooney i think thats the guy(leonard pierre) he wants me to spar.
Next to Lamont Peterson and Andre Ward he is one of America's most exciting prospects. The most promising prospect though, = Sylvian Bute.
Do you mean Lucien Bute, who fights out of Canada? Because I've honestly never heard of Sylvain Bute and Lucien Bute is really impressive prospect.
Good call on Peterson too. He looks very good. When I saw him on Friday Night Fights he said he wanted to be a Winky Wright type of boxer. His brother Anthony is pretty good as well. I've only seen each guy once though. Still, they both looked really good. I want to see them again, see how they progressed.
Briggs KO's Duddy in the first.
Were you joking or not? In case u didnt know, Shannon Briggs is a heavyweight and Duddy is only a middleweight. Are u talking about a different person??
Duddy will have problems developing a jab as he is a left hooker. He throws tons of leads hooks instead of jabs and he is becoming in love with his power. But he is a decent prospect and always exciting.
I love seeing this kid fight. He's an absolute joy to watch. I want to see him step up the competition though. He fought a very OLD journeyman, absolutely dismantled him but the guy was obviously very old, and most likely not very motivated as he was on the tail-end of his career.
dont forget he beat the kevin rooney's top protege` lenard pierre who was 16-0 in one rd. He beat a tricky pat thompson in June and a beat an old end of career but experienced pat colman who was a former champ who went the distance w/ buddy mcgirt and a few other champs. That is not bad for only 12 fights.
the step up in competetion will come. I was also just notified that it has been confirmed this will be Duddy's first 10 rd fight and it will be for a New York State title.
Duddy has a shot to be a good MW, but not a top 4-5 guy especially with the crop of talent we have now in the division. He's an outstanding body puncher, but has no jab so he will always get beat by boxers, but he's definetly going to bring some excitement, kind of like Gatti.
He's still young though, I'm hoping he can develop some sort of jab because if he does, he'll be a very dangerous fighter. Not that he isn't already, but if he doesn't have a jab when he steps up against tougher opposition, as you said, it's likely that he will simply get beat. Still, he's a very exciting and I've loved every fight I've seen of his so far. And I agree, he will always bring excitement to his fights.
Duddy has power and he is fun to watch.
He will never be middleweight champion of the world. He is too limited in some ways but he does have the ferocity to create some excitement.
I wouldnt be so quick to judge, Duddy is still very young. The man had great and very long and productive ameteur career where was a skilled boxer. When he turned pro he developed awesome KO power you can tell by his record 12-0 (11 KO's). Hes already went a solid 8 rds where he won every rd on every judges scorecard and still has KO power in the later rds (KO of Thompson 7/22).
Duddy also has the ability to drop to the wide open light middle weight div. And im not to worried of the present middleweight div as well. Again this isnt gonna happen over night, give Duddy a couple more yrs and hopefully he gets w/ the right promoter (STAY AWAY FROM TOP RANK!!!) and he will get his shot.
