Tarver offers options to Calzaghe
Antonio Tarver's promoter Joe DeGuardia has opened up the possibility of a February super-fight with Joe Calzaghe.
Calzaghe hopes to arrange a super middleweight unification bout on 4 February with IBF champion Jeff Lacy.
But that is in doubt after Calzaghe's broken hand caused the cancellation of their original November date, and now DeGuardia has suggested an alternative.
"Calzaghe's back in February and that's our next date so let's see what happens," he told the Boxing Talk site.
Florida-based Tarver is regarded as the leading light heavyweight in the world after this month's points win over Roy Jones Jr.
Calzaghe, the world's best super middleweight, has long talked about stepping up a division if he could secure a worthwhile fight, and the potential match-up would be intriguing.
"We looked at Calzaghe before the Roy fight came to light and he should know that Tarver is ready and able to fight him," said DeGuardia.
"Calzaghe should be looking this way if he really wants to make a mark in the US and establish himself as a player in boxing."
Lets first see if Calzaghe can do something at supermiddleweight like fighting Lacy, Kessler or Beyer. Tarver still has plenty of Lightheavyweights to fight so there is no need to pick a smaller man to fight.
Calzaghe is a big super middle, he should be at light heavy anyway, so i see the move there as the best option.
Kessler = no win situation, he's tough and doesnt pay well, even if he beats him nobody will care.
Lacy = Even though i consider Kessler a harder fight i think its a match worth making, there's a lot of hype around him but he's still not as big a fight as Tarver.
Beyer = Isnt even worth talking about, nobody respects or rates him because Germany has such a bad reputation. I'm dont normal care about location but you have to KO your opponent to win there and even then the ref is likely to stop you from doing that(Ottke vs Reid & Beyer vs Green I). Maybe if they fought in any other country i'd entertain that idea.

I just want Joe to fight someone good. I'd prefer a Calzaghe/Lacy fight, as if Joe won he would silence his critics. If he went up to fight Tarver people would accuse him of ducking Lacy, and the Tarver fight would probably happen anyway if Joe beat Lacy.
I dont think anyone would accuse Calzaghe of ducking Lacy if he fought Tarver. Rightly or wrongly Tarver is known as a bigger, better and more dangerous opponent than Lacy.
I dont really care who he fights, Lacy has done a lot of talk but Tarver did avoid the Calzaghe fight a couple of years ago, so he has unfinished business with both of them.
I dont think Lacy or Tarver will duck Calzaghe, but they will probably want a lot of money, i expect Tarver to want more than he is worth so it could be difficult to make.

He is just staying busy he is the most active chanpion out....It is not his fault calzaghe predicted an injury and then sustained one....
I think Lacy should stay busy but i think he shouldnt bitch when other fighters stay busy.
I have a few problems with my teeth, i fractured a couple of nerves a while ago and i know that after a fight my teeth hurt a lot. I know that and Calzaghe knows that he has hand problems, the same way Mayweather/Jones/etc know they have hand problems. Calzaghe was wrong to say he could get injured but that doesnt mean shit other than he doesnt think before he speaks.
Yeah, it was a sarcastic post. BUT there is some truth in it, Lacy doesnt really need a warm up if he thinks Calzaghe didnt.

Calzaghe didn't need a warmup, so what you say has no grounds. You're just mad your boyfriend is getting hated on and rightfully so. Calzaghe is a vet and had been active by his standards and did not need a tune up at all. Evans Ashira is not a tune-up.
He hadnt had many fights, so of course he needed a tune up. Unless you think Lacy isnt tough enough to warrant a tune up fight.
LOL! Did you just say that Lacy is ducking Cockzaghe.

hmm

I dont care which one as long as i see Calzaghe fight either Lacy/Tarver in Feb.
But Lacy is ducking Calzaghe by taking a warm up fight first, why does he need to fight Pemberton  (if you dont get it i'm being sarcastic because of the abuse Calzaghe got for taking a warm up).
calzaghe is thw worlds best middleweight?
news to me
It said SMW but still is news...LOL Tarver would not hurt him as bad as Lacy he may want to check into this fight.....he seems to like to find a way out against Lacy.
