In the buildup to Jones/Tarver I listen to Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver refer to themselves as warriors and it got me thinking...are these guys warriors simply because they lace up the gloves???
My conclusion is absolutely fucking not, they are in no way warriors and anyone who thinks they are needs to have their head examined.
In boxing we have become far too accustom to calling every fighter out their a warrior simply because they fight for a living, well lets put that shit to bed!
Do we call all champions great because they have a belt? Fuck no, so why should we call all fighters warriors just because they fight.
Case in motherfucking point...Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales...are they warriors...absolutely...think about these two for a second, not just their epic war but what they have done in the past 5 or so years...they define exactly what a warrior is.
Now look at Roy Jones and Toney Tarver...what have they done to deserve the title WARRIOR, sure Tarver got his ass whupped by Harding in their first fight and came back to win the second but is he a warrior for that? Hell Jones has never done anything remotely related to "warrior status". (but they are referred to by us and by themselves all of the time as warriors)
Point of the thread is this, if Roy Jones and Toney Tarver and any other fighter who puts on gloves professionally is a warrior then we have a problem...by making this mistake we disgrace true warriors like the ones we will witness on Saturday night.
Not all champions are great and not all fighters are warriors...opinions anyone...especially the Jones contingent...
You say Jones came back after being knocked out....sort of...
He did not come back to win, just showing up is not good enough for me, tricking the boxing world is not good enough for me...I need to see some actios and training for a fight is one thing, training to win a fight is entirely soemthing different and if Roy Jones was a warrior he would have not only trained but trained to win.
So easy to say that when your just sitting behing a television watching. No offense but its true...
Believe it, last weekend I shelled out $50 dollars for what in all reality was WWF bulshit!
Jones had no intentions of winning the fight, absolutely non, when he fought Gelnn Johnson and Johnson came out in the first to fight, jones then had no intentions of winning...warrior...I think not!
Maybe there are two versions of warriors, Jones warriors and Corrales warriors...
The sport was ripped off last weekend, Roy may have been a warrior but not in recent memeory he is not...
It is too easy to say that all fighters are warriors just because they put on gloves, it is just to easy.
Warriors do more then just put on gloves, the prepare to WIN.
My whole point is all fighters are warriors because boxing is a dangerous sport.
( I dont mind losing but I cant tolerate preparing to lose...warriors dont prepare to lose or at least I dont think they do).
.
you are correct.
Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory.

Roy Jones said that he was gonna get back what was his against Tarver...fuck words we saw thru action that he had zero intention of doing shit ( I dont mind losing but I cant tolerate preparing to lose...warriors dont prepare to lose or at least I dont think they do).
Roy Jones says he is a warrior...fuck words we saw thru action that Roy and warrior just dont go together.
Roy should talk to Vince McCman (whatever), he should get into a sport where the outcome is predetermined.
Roy Jones for the last three fights has been anything but a warrior, he has been a fake/fraud/pussy!
From the last three fights I would agree with you.
Jones established himself as a inferior combatant therefore he is not the true warrior.
Yes. But just like Gatti.....Oscar was the better warrior in their fight because he won the war.

I agree, if anything Jones decreased in legacy statis in his last fight.
Scap. You need to read the art of war.
"The clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy's will to be imposed on him."
Floyd is a warrior as much so is gatti.
Just because he avoids contact does not mean he is not a warrior.
I never brought up Floyd Mayweather...I consider him a warrior and if you read the thread as it has evolved I would also consider Tarver won currently as well.
Roy Jones for the last three fights has been anything but a warrior, he has been a fake/fraud/pussy!
Again I never brought up Floyd, Jones is the target here.
You have the term Warrior confused with Bravery.
Big difference. Actually they have nothing in common.

Bottomline, right now, people are already asking, when are you gonna fight PAC, if that remains unanswered, people will say BArrera is chicken shit afraid.
Again just plain common sense.
Give me a list dipshit, who are the greats without a "BOTCH"...again Im waiting son.
Im waiting for your reply from yesterday son.
Wow, what a comeback...
Ask any person who knows boxing, they will all have good things too say about Barrera. U just don't know boxing thats all, your a pac fan and thats it.
wut ta hell are you talkin about???
Barrera has been duckin Pac fo 3 yrs now!!! OK? And wait a sec, who has he been fightin as of late??
A Monkey Fana AKA "I'm a Nobody"....then Robbie Peeden who got that shyt belt fo bein lucky gainst Campbell! Not to mention he's Barrera' best bud and sparring fighta! Barrera fought wars befo, but it's evident that he's takin his carreer into that "chicken" path.
Shyt, sumone get an order of fried rice, Ima fry Barrera! nyahahahahahaha! What a chicken!
Wow, what a man without common sense. I admire fighters for what they can do. I also like fighters outside of my country.
But the word warrior is only given to boxers who are FEARLESS. Now let me ask you a question, is Barrera fearless?
Even Scap wouldn't be too dumb to say Barrera is fearless
FANA? PEDEN? Wow! barrera is indeed fearless! lol!
Barrera is a fuckin chicken!!! Shyt, anyone would be eatin Barrera wit fried rice right now and I woulnt be able to tell ta difference.
Fought a Monkey (fana) on PPV then fought his friend/sparring partner on PPV, to look good. Where is ta honor? Where is ta pride?
To Me Warriors Are Straight Out Brawlers Somebody That Cant Stand To Be Booed!! By The Fans. How The Hell Would That Look Like If You Seen A Street Fight Down An Alley And Hes Running Around All Defensive Scared To Get Hit And Running Around, To Me That Would Look Pretty Silly! Thats Just My Opinion.
why are jones and tarver not warriors and corrales and castillo are?
jones came back against tarver after being knocked out by him and johnson, and he was koed by johnson for several minutes and it took like 20 minutes for him to even get to his feet.
if thats not a warrior i dont know what is. if he came back against glass joe that would be impressive much less the first guy to knock him out.
tarver and jones have much more skill than castillo, and chico and thats why they are not in brawls with knock downs like that.
once again fighters are faulted for not being hurt and coming back to win and just dominating more than people like gatti who take punishment against d level opponents and have to come back to win.
corrales and castillo are b+ level fighters and they are warriors but jones and tarver are at least as much warriors if not more.
they would both do the same thing if they were put in that position to go life and death.
but they have complete different fighting styles with a lot more skills than castillo or chico.
if chico and castillo could fight like jones or tarver believe me they would and they woudl use their skills instead of brawling and taking punishment when it isnt necessary.
but they cant and they only have the one way of fighting, and they use it.
You say Jones came back after being knocked out....sort of...

Can you imgaine Sugar Ray Leonard coming back to simply lose on his feet? Sure Ray was a cutie pie like Jones but he never was satisified with anything but the "W".
Tarver may be a warrior I can give you that and Jones was probably a warrior at one point in his career but that time has past and if you cant recognized that you were robbed last weekend by a fake then I guess you didnt shell out the $50 bucks.
Warriors are people you walk down an alley with, they are people you want watching/protecting your back...Ill take JL Castillo and Diego Corrales (who are not b+ fighters by the way) with me down an alley any day...taking Jones would be suicide.
To me warrior is sumone who aint scared and has that style of jest brawling ta shyt outa his opponents. Gatti WAS, but now he turned into a gay ass below mediocre boxer!!!! NO GOOD!
ANY MAN WHO FIGHTS FOR A LIVING IS A WARRIOR! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT... :nonono:

Who gives a fuck if you lace up gloves for battle if you have no intention on making it a battle, thats not a warrior thats an idiot/fake!
i guess i have a soft spot for boxers. and i don't place a boxer higher or lower in the echelon on whether they like to move or stand toe to toe. i kinda see as just a style.
as a note i was disappointet in RJJ's approach as well.
