I Deceided to have a go at this, but it's really hard and I'm still not sure about the order so go easy on me. ;)
1) Ali
2) Foreman
3) Marciano
4) Tunney
5) Louis
6) Lewis
7) Holmes
8) Holyfield
9) Frazier
10)Tyson
In that case here it is.
Ali/Tyson
Foreman
Marciano
Frazier
Holmes
Liston
Patterson
Dempsey
Louis
Lewis
Toney because he is a current champion, or will be.
do u mean in their primes. Because if u do my whole top ten woukd change instantly. Here are mine in their primes:
Joe Louis
Mike Tyson
Jack Dempsey
Rocky Marciano
Muhammad Ali
George Foreman
Larry Holmes...yea i know
Lennox Lewis
??
??
to much of a toss up in the last two
I Think you have to consider BOTH in their prime AND whole career, Tricky but both need consideration.

Box,
You're really high on Tunney. Is there a reason for this? I think he was a great, great light-heavyweight and a respectable heavyweight champion, but he didn't accomplish much in the heavyweight field other than twice beating an inactive, post-prime Dempsey who had been boozing and fucking around in Hollywood for too long.
I just can't see how you can place Gene over the more deserving guys? Also where is Dempsey? Somehow Tunney gets such a high place for beating someone (and an over the hill version at that) you don't even consider top ten material?
Or are these your top ten favorite heavyweights? In that case, you should have whoever you want.
I Must admit i didn't know that so many of his fights were Light Heavy, but even so a record of 65-1-1, AND quit as champion to me is deserving. But you're right about Dempsey, I Did overlook him I hold my hands up to that. Favourites did come into it with Foreman I DO believe that he's the 2nd best heavy of all time, but I also know I could be biased. :)

1. Muhammad Ali
2. Joe Louis
3. Rocky Marciano
4. Jack Dempsey
5. Jack Johnson
6. Mike Tyson
7. George Foreman
8. Joe Frazier
9. Larry Holmes
10. Evander Holyfield
notables: Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Lennox Lewis (grumble grumble), Sonny Liston, and Bob Fitzsimmons.
thats my list. take it or leave it.
Actually, I'd agree with you on this for the most part. I'd flip Louis and Foreman and move Frazier ahead of Holyfield. I'm a bit iffy on Tyson in there, but I'll let that slide.
Nice list, sir!
On a side note, this is the second time I've agreed with Martin on something. I think I'm turning British =(
Nope. In addition to Liston, Joe Frazier doesn't belong there either. His competition was just not that strong, until he met up with two great fighters and was beaten in his prime by them. Here's the real list:
1. Louis
2. Ali (if this was about legacy, Ali would be #1)
3. Marciano
4. Foreman
5. Dempsey
6. Jack Johnson
7. Holmes
8. Jim Jeffries
9. Lewis
10. Tyson
Just off the list: Holy, Legends of the 40's/50's (Walcott, Moore, Charles), Tunney, Frazier, Corbett, Langford.

Well I Don't seem to have done too badly, I DID Think about Liston too, but I Just couldn't fit him in there, there's nobody I Could leave out to fit him in.
1. ali
2. Joe Louis
3. George Foreman
4. Larry Holmes
5. Lennox lewis
6. Rocky Marciano
7. Evander Holyfield
8. Mike tyson
9. Joe frazier
10. Sonny Liston
pretty good, mine is kinda like this.
1marciano.
2joe louis
3. ali
4. foreman
5.dempsey.
6.frazier.
7.liston.
8.holmes.
9.tunney
10. holyfield.
11.lewis.
12.tyson.
These lists are always subjective, but Sonny Liston at number 7?? Two successful title defenses over a china-chinned Floyd Patterson does not equate to 7th best heavy of all-time in my books. Liston is top 20 at best.
No way can Lennox be on a top 10 list, I'm sorry. But a good list overall, though. I have Ali #1 as well, it's tough but when you think about all the top guys he beat there's no way around it, he deserves the spot. I'd probably move Tunney down the list a bit and put Louis #2.
pretty good, mine is kinda like this.
1marciano.
2joe louis
3. ali
4. foreman
5.dempsey.
6.frazier.
7.liston.

12.tyson.
Yep it's not bad, I've never been able to see past Ali for top spot though. :)
