Wouldnt it be much healthier and easier instead of losing 30 to 20 pounds? I know they say they do it for a size and power advantage at the lower weight classes but still that has to be unhealthy on the liver and kidneys. But do you think that is the main reason they fight at lower weights?
These are the possible weights not hard facts but I heard from interviews and such how much they weigh and estimated their offseason weight from the hbo unofficial scale.
manny pacquiao fights at 130-126 and walks around at 150
Erik morales fights at 130-135 walks around at 165
Ricky hatton fights at 140 walks around 175 and up
Arturo gatti fights at 140 walks around at 165 170
miguel cotto fights at 140 walks around 160-165
joan guzman fights at 122-26 walks around 150
kermit cintron fights at 147 walks around at 175
antonio margarito fights at 147-154 walks around 170.
Jermain taylor fights at 160 walks around 180
Fighters who walk around at their fighting weight or close to it are:
Floyd mayweather fights at 140-147 and walks around like 145
Marco antonio barrera fights at 130 walks around 135
demarcus chop chop corley fights at 140 walks around 145
bernard hopkins fights at 160 walks around 168
shane mosley fights at 147 walks around at 155.
Yeah, most fighters lose weight just so that they can have the strength advantage over the weaker classes. However, in my humble opinion, I believe that if fighters would stay in their normal weight class then the fights would be much more exciting. I myself fight at my normal weight, but due to this I will hypothetically be fighting many opponents a class above me since they will be losing weight for a strength advantage. However, just because you are in your right class doesn't mean you are doomed for failure, look at Jack Dempsey for example.

why wud u hit like a bigger guy is u lose 13lbs to make weight. ull hit as hard as u weigh, ur body wud be drained
you will hit harder because that weight comes back on the next day! thats why figthers put on 15 pounds on fight time! so they have an advantage.
If all fighters fought at their natural "in shape" weight, it wouldn't make much difference except in a few weight classes where fighters may run into opponents with lankier frames and reach and height advantages. As it is, not that many fighters enjoy much of an advantage because the majority of all fighters do it. The only reason they do it is to retain a strength advantage over their opponents, IMO they should have to weigh in on the day of the fight. Maybe after a few of these fuckers get killed or injured due to being unhealthy, this shit will stop.
Why don't Fighters Fight at their Natural Weight?
Because that would take away the height advantage that most of the boxers in teh lower weights rely so heavily upon...You would see a whole lot of your favorite fighters get knocked the phuck out...
mundine is the only guy that come to mind that fights at a natural weight he only loses about 5 kgs he could fight as a middle weight easy but he fights at super middle weight and fights middle weights make sense i hate that guy he shits me
that weight advantage is actually very rare now as most fighters dont fight at their actual weight so technically there is no longer an advantage in terms of size. One thing they would benefit from though a lot is the decrease in weight allows them to move better faster for longer periods of times. Anybody whos ever lost at least 10 pounds then started running probably knows what im talking about.
I am 5'11" walk around at 175 or so, but can get down to 154, and could no doubt make 147 if I had to. It would make much more sense to fight at that weight than to fight at 175, purely for strength advantage.
I think alot of it with fighters now a days is they just get fat. I mean not all but alot of fighters Hatton, Morales (sorry but its true) blow up crazy. Also i u can cut down losing minimal muscle and gaining speed and endurance in the process it makes sense. I was weighing almost 200 pounds but i felt like it was forced and felt weak for a heavy. Now im a leaner 180 and have quite a size advantage over other light heavies, and i have really piced up my speed.
By measurements do you mean like reach or height? 5' 7" is awful small for heavyweight. I'm 6' and in UFC, that's average. I think.
i mean height. and by that i mean bigger thighs neck biceps calfs stuff like that

you'll should still hit as hard when dropping weight. now if u do it incorrectly like within a few days it can mess with u. i can tell u this i hit harder then my walkaround weight at 165 so i jus thought it would be better to go lower since i pack a punch
you should just do ultimate fighting! you have the build to be devastating in the 155 pound lightweight division you look about 5 feet 5 inches tall am i correct>?
im 5'7. my measurments are bigger then some heavyweights im just really compact.
Not exactly true. Let's put it this way. In high school I wrestled for all four years. I moved down weight classes twice. Why? When I moved down, I was easily stronger than anyone else in the weight class. Losing weight does not constitute losing strength. I can bench press as much at 225 as I do at 200. No difference. Only difference is the strength of my competition.
i weigh walking around about 165 and im pretty thick as u can see in my avatar.but i wanna go to 140 or 147. because i know i will have alot more power then most of them at that class and i have quick hand speed, plus its harder to move someone that weighs more then you do so thats the reasons i c. but i dont see how erik morales can weigh as much as i do my body frame resembles tyson all the way around i jus dont think that was right unless he lives in las vegas and just eats at buffets all day and all the other ppl to it jus doesnt look accurate besides cotto cause hbo always says he weighs about 20 lbs more then the other guy

Where did you hear that? That seems fucking high as hell.
Especially for a crackhead.
he said it in an interview! I saw it he was saying roy was making excuses about how hard it was to lose weight and tarver said something like he had to come down from 210 just to make 175 pound limit and that jones was making excuses.
