i just finished watching the fight , and i was upset at jones for not tryin anything ;
BUT i frankly think that roy hasnt lost that much speed and reflexes . he still has 80% of what he had in his prime .
what he lost is self confidance and desire to win , he lost his heart . plus his chin is suspect , i think he knew it and taht s why he hand picked opponents when moving up in weight , but now that everybody knows it , he is even more careful because he knew tarver was gonna take chances .
in a few words , i think he came at 90% in terms of skills and athletic gifts , but already broken in a mental point of view
With the exception of two or three rounds Jones did nothing but clown around and run. That's trying to survive. He was more than happy to last the distance and said that he didn't want to go out with a knockout.
He did what he could with the faculties he had left. He was pressing the action after he got rung in the 11th.
Again, I completely disagree.
If Jones was just there to survive, he wouldn't have gone after Tarver at the end of round 11.
That's a very poor account of the fight, meant to be twisted around what clearly is an agenda.

He needed a tune up or two to get his confidence back. You could tell he was fighting with the memories of his last fights still on his mind.I think he still has some speed he showed it in spurts but was to scared and protective to really let go.He imitated his fighting birds in all aspects last nite minus will and heart.
Even though Jones lost some of his natural ability it was still enough to be Tarver. The problem in the ring which I thought he wasn't going to get over is the mental aspect. He could've beat Tarver. There were times when Tarver's confidence looked shaken & Roy didn't capitalize and the old Roy would've taken over the fight. Roy needs to retire because he doesn't have it in him anymore mentally.
Even though Roy Jones wasn't the same Jones that fought just a few years ago he wasn't a completely shot fighter. He was just gunshy and didn't want to take any chances. He was there just to strictly survive and Tarver let him.

With that said I think he needs to retire because of those reasons or he will fight someone who won't take it easy on him the way Tarver did. Tarver fought too cautious against someone who was there to be taken out.
I agree what Bozo has to say. Roy still has his handspeed and reflexes but compared to what he had about three years ago, it's not even close. Also, he doesn't have those trigger punches anymore and his legs are nowhere near when he was in his prime. Roy also lost his heart for winning and doesn't have that swagger he once had. I think last night's fight proved that Roy doesn't have a glass chin, and that a 60% version of Roy Jones could still get in the ring with top 10 contenders.
Completely disagree.
His reflex and speed aren't what they used to be. His ability to work in miliseconds and pull away from shots by an inch isn't there, and it hasn't been since he dropped all that weight.
You saw Ali flick out many quick combos late in his career, but it's the fact they do not carry the same power that they did in his younger days that leaves the shots lacking power and sharpness. Same thing with Roy's shots.
He doesn't have absolutly nothing left, but the factors that seperated him from everyone else as a younger fighter are no longer there, and he's not capeable of reinventing himself at 36 years old.
Jones lost the pop on his shots a long time ago, and his timing isn't even close to what it once was.
roy jones looked like camacho after he tasted the canvas for the first time.
Cautious, your right jones didnt lose any speed he just didnt put up a fight my friend was yelling at the tv saying throw something man DONT MAKE ME REGRET ordering this PPV!.Lmao
Great post. I thought when they showed him arriving at the arena that he looked really nervous, maybe even kind of scared.
The way he fought confirmed that.
thats exactly it. i never thought he was a big puncher, just a volume puncher.
he seemed to scared to mix it up and rightfully so, but dont all time greats risk getting knocked out to win the fight? roy didnt take any risks last night....
he was still there.
i agree with you 100% tino
I agree with both of you. RJJ dissapointed a lot of folks tonight. He still has skills but he was too scared to use them and fight. But much props to Tarver for exposing RJJ heart.
