Jones Jr doesn't even have a legacy, never has and never will. He's a HBO creation.
Hopkins, Toney and McCallum are HOFer's but they were nowhere near their best when they fought Jones Jr.
Jones Jr didn't push for unifications at 160, didn't push for unifications at 168, avoided the true Lineal 175 champion all along, and picked on the worst of the Heavies.
I said five years ago that Jones Jr has a long way to go if he wants to make my top 100 all-time lb4lb list, he still has a long way to go.
RJJ's legacy might not be having beaten all of the greatest fighters he ever faced throughout his whole career, but prime for prime RJJ was one of the best that ever did it. Haters gonna always hate i guess.
Roy Jones Jnr is the single greatest fighter i ever saw live, the best of the era and a true great who its been a privilage to watch
He has had a top career, it could have been better if he'd have taken some fights he didnt but the fights we talk of him missing ie. Benn, Eubank, Collins, Michalczewski ect, are in truth formalities for a prime Roy who was just on another level.
If u dont rate Roy u dont know diick and ur opinion means less than shiit.
Agreed Roy has some very impressive wins...

He would most likely win but these are still fights that he should have been fighting and that would mean a whole lot more than some of the people of the people he was fighting around that time. You could make the same sort of argument for Mayweather and his reasons for missing out on all the fighters that he has for the last couple of years.
How bout being top LB/LB in the world for a decade?
The onces who just became Boxing fans don't remember. Jones Jr was the top P4P longer than anyone else in Boxing history. If that's not a legacy, I don't know what it is.
No Benn said before the Malinga fight that his only hope against Jones Jr would be to throw everything at him for three or four rounds and hope for the best. That pretty much was his only hope if he fought Jones Jr after Malinga because he was ****ing Finished after the McClellan fight.
When i spoke with Benn i sai its a pitty a Roy Jones fight never came off and he replied "Nah i was lucky he'd have killed me!"

This is too harsh imo.
Tyson is one of the reasons I watch boxing, but he was nowhere near the fighter Jones & Hopkins are. Tyson is possibly the most over-rated fighter in history. He had no jab, often walked around the ring looking confused, had no plan b...
Ofcourse..
HBO creations and steroid junkies.
Mike Tyson at his peak was better than any of those three guys could ever become.

the guy cudnt even beat sugar boy malinga.
Well Benn had already beat Malinga in 1992, and despite being a completely shot in 1996 Benn was beating Malinga in 1996 too until the referee counted Benn's slip at the end of the 12th round as a "knockdown" , no way was that a knockdown, Benn was getting set to hit Malinga with a counter but slipped on water in the corner.. if the referee had not called that a "knockdown" then Benn would of won the decision and fought Jones Jr.
If the referee had done his job right then the scores for Benn-Malinga II would of been 111-117 Malinga, 114-113 Benn and 117-110 Benn.
I haven't seen Malinga against Jones Jr but apparently he was giving Jones Jr hell and winning the fight..
Here's somebody elses account of the Jones-Malinga fight:
Sugarboy Malinga was clearly giving Roy problems in 93 by making Roy lead and stepping off. Jones had to resort to feints to get Malinga to lead after which he brilliantly counterpunched Malinga with an uppercut right on the button. But if it wasn`t for Roy`s power he had back in those days that got him out of jail in this fight then this fight would of gone the full 12 rounds and Malinga would of got the decision.
- from Dog House Boxing forum
Benn also admitted that he would lose to Roy Jones Jr if the fight had gone more then 3 or 4 more rounds.
No Benn said before the Malinga fight that his only hope against Jones Jr would be to throw everything at him for three or four rounds and hope for the best. That pretty much was his only hope if he fought Jones Jr after Malinga because he was fucking Finished after the McClellan fight.
He took the easiest route possible.
Vacant IBF title against the unknown Hopkins who wasn't a very good fighter back then (Hopkins only held the USBA title).
Toney was clearly in no fit state to fight at that point in his life, he was very severely weight-drained and depressed.
AWARDED the Light-Heavyweight title after beating 40-year-old McCallum.
AVOIDED Michalczewski for seven years!!
You're just an excuse machine aren't you?
Could you imagine Nigel Benn on steroids? That would be frightening!
Steve Collins, for what it's worth, was winning Irish Heavyweight amateur titles at the same time as Jones Jr was winning Florida Flyweight amateur titles. No shit!
Im sorry Juy Juy but as much as u say the above - did these guys go up divisions and into heavyweight and win the world title. No they didnt.....Roy Jones achieved one of the greatest things in boxing by moving up to heavyweight and winning the world title - how this can be disputed i have no idea. Its not quite the same as winning the irish heavyweight amateur title.
btw - Ramadhan Mubarak!

I really don't care what Collins did as an amateur. Only what he did professionally. Jones wasn't on them for his fight with Ruiz so what's your point if you even have one?
I said this before & I'll say it again. Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, or Stevie Collins couldn't & wouldn't move to Heayweight & try to defeat & champion even if John Ruiz was the current because they couldn't. I respect everyone's opinion but to downgrade Jones accomplishments & say that he doesn't have a legacy is foolish & that person couldn't even be considered a true boxing fan.

hahahahahahahahahahaaaa scared of Steve Collings? that guy couldnt punch his way out of a paper bag
I don't think Collins could of beaten RJjnr .. but its no secret that he really wanted that fight for years
