and bust John Ruizs sorry ass, just to show everyone how little it meant for roy jones to do it
and after him, then who. Its the same thing that happened to jones. After ruiz there arent any real fighters out there that they could take on and win. No point in going all the way up, then having to come back down
Mormeck is the guy who should move up.
I would take him to beat Ruiz too, for the record
antonio tarver is 6'2, he could carry 195 pounds much easier than roy jones, and i think he wouldnt really need "power" to beat ruiz.
Chris byrd hits like a girl and that fight was not in demand by any stretch of the imagination.
A Ruiz fight is NEVER in demand. Byrd would have given Jones more problems than the slow, plodding, hugging Ruiz. After beating Ruiz, Jones could have made an attempt at getting a fight with Byrd to unify the belts, and that would have created more demand than a rematch with Ruiz. Byrd, while about as insteresting as watching paint dry, would have presented more of a challenge to Jones, and a far more exciting fight than the Ruiz fight, though probably not as exciting as T v J I.
hmm
Puhleeeze, man. Spare me the bs. Half the fans on here have as little respect for Byrd as they do Ruiz. Fact is, many half the experts and fans were picking Ruiz to whip and KO Jones.

Roy Jones didn't handpick shit. PPL thought Ruiz was a legit threat and Roy was serious as hell about the fight. Lennox was busy at the time and Ruiz ahd beaten Holyfield. You're kidding, right? Didn't handpick the slowest, most plodding, easiest for a fast, mobile guy to beat heavyweight?
Lennox was busy at the time, but Byrd wasn't. That would have been a much more challenging fight for Roy. While I don't think that Byrd is a great champion, at the time, he was a mirror image of Roy. I think Roy would have come out on top, being the slightly slicker and faster, but it wouldn't have been as easy for him, which is why he never fought the fight.
Sometimes on here you actually say things where it sounds like you know what you're talking about. This isn't one of them.
Tarver would have no power at Heavyweight, and unlike Toney and Jones who moves alot ! Tarver would get hit more by Ruiz , Ruiz would KO Tarver !
I disagree and also will add that I personally believe Tarver hits harder than Jones for sure and probably Toney as well.
I don't get the notion that Tarver must move up to prove his worth. Bernard Hopkins stayed at middleweight his entire career and no one takes anything away from him for not moving up to light heavy. The difference is, Middleweight has never had long periods where it's been short of real talent. In modern times, Light-heavweight has short spurts where there is more than one or two talented fighters, otherwise it's a just a good division for someone with real talent to go and sit on belts for a while.
If Tarver wants to be remembered for Greatness, he has to do more than rule a division where he has only a few good fights to make.
hmm

Ruiz would own Tarver, I promise you that. If Tarver gets gassed from Roy's feints how the hell will he deal with Ruiz's mugging tactics all night?
Why dont you learn a little about why what Jones did was so impressive before you talk shit. Jones started his carreer at 153. Tarver has been 175 all his life and regularly walk around, when not fighting, above the cruiserweight weight limit.
first of all im only half serious, i dont really want tarver to move up.
it just pisses me off that roy jones jr gets to say he was heavyweight champ cause he handpicked the one guy he could beat.
just trying to make the point that a lot of guys could beat john ruiz and they arent all heavyweights
and bust John Ruizs sorry ass, just to show everyone how little it meant for roy jones to do it

Tarver doesnt have the frame for a heavy. If he puts on more muscle it wont be natural, and you just have to be in your natural state to be at your best.
Tarver would clearly get hurt at heavyweight.
yea he would.
Tarver uses his height to dominate his opponents...but if he moved to heavy he would actually be short for a heavyweight. he also uses his big left hand to keep his opponents off balance, but his "big " left hand won't be as big at heavy...
