Cotto was way under prepared for this fight.
Where was his usuall tight defence and his speed was non existent also.
This is a fight he should hopefully learn from and go on to better things.
I was very impressed, he looked like he stepped in the ring at 140 and we all know when HBO doesent list the unofficial weights that the fighter is pretty blown up. Cotto looked like he was in the 154-158 area and I dont doubt that extra weight helped him take those punches a little better. Hopefully someone picks this kid up and gets him some decent fights with proper prep.
The guy is way off balanced and form is horrible, he needs to get his fundamentals down first...
Very sloppy too...with good form, he can be a monster.
if Torres was given an honest title shot i think he would have looked alot better. As of a few weeks ago Cotto didnt know whom he was going to fight,Gianluca Branco was whom he was going to fight but he got injured. If Torres had Stamina i think he would have looked differently. I dont consider the WBO a legit tittle, but i consider it a good contender base.
Yo. I was very impressed. I thought we were gonna have another upset tonight. The fight in general was very exciting. The only thing about that Torres fell short on was he didn't attack the body at all when he had Cotto in trouble to set up his head shots.
I also have to give Cotto props for being honest and saying that was the closest he got to being KO'd and for coming back strong everytime he got out of trouble. Props to the Boricua for that.
i think the cotto fight might've been fixed...Torres had Cotto dancing all around the ring in all kinds of hurt from his right hand, but Torres came after him with the speed and ferocity of a sloth...Torres he did evrything he could to not finish Cotto...idk suttin about dat fight seemed fishy
UHHH.. This is gonna be a first time for me defending Cotto, but what the fuck fight where you watching? Torres was fucking beating in Cottos face when he had him hurt.
Fuckin Cotto was moving and fucking parrying shots like a champ. Torres couldn't finish the job because A- Cotto has a roc solid chin. He got bombed a few times and still kept moving and stayed aware. B- Even though the guy was rocked he moved well, he kept doing it, he dogded and parryed Torres' shots too. Man Torres bombed Cotto a few times when he was still staggering around and Cotto still pulled it off.
Cotto has my vote.
And as an edit, if the guy was any good, he could manage his stamina better. Fuck that he wasn't trained shit, he could train for 2 months and Cotto still wins it.
Your right, but lets face it hes obviously had worse training, then Cotto. I think Bob Arum or somebody sees this fight, and gives Torres a world class trainer.. who knows. Torres has talent.. No denying it..He has explosive hands.
I agree, Cotto's had all the breaks, this guy almost stopped the Cotto train in it's tracks, give him some proper training and then we'll see...
Not impressed at all. Taking a fight on short notice shouldn't have anything to do with being able to finish a guy off in the 2nd round. Torres had no clue how to close the show, not once but twice. You either know what to do when you have a guy in trouble or you don't. He don't.

Thing about Cotto is. He does get shaken up and staggered quite often it appears. But like alot of other good fighters he remains composed through it, and quickly recovers. And Torres is no pushover. Not a bad chance that guy will be Champion someday. Like I said he is a very deserving #1 contender.
Torres was a damn fine #1 contender. Only a shame he was not 100% prepared for this fight or he might have won. I think there should be a rematch.
He did take the fight on like 2-3 week notice and he did have a fight in August. I'm sure he was prepared because he just had a fight but I highly doubt he will get a rematch...EVER! After what he did to Cotto, they will never take that risk again.
Cotto's a good fighter, but if he doesn't learn to box instead of brawl, he'll be finished the next time he faces a real fighter. Torres threw alot of unneccesary punches when Cotto was hurt, he should have slowed down a little and he might have finished Cotto. He doesn't really have huge power, that hookercut he landed should have at least dropped Cotto if he had real power. Cotto just has a ...I won't say bad chin but not a great one either, his conditioning kept him up. Guy must do a ton of roadwork. He just needs to accept that his best chance is to box and not put his chin out there like that. Answer: Yes I was impressed with the fact that Torres wasn't intimidated by Cotto and fought a gallant fight, I hope we see him again.
Nah, he was tired and probably hurt himself from all those bodyshots.
yea thats wat i thuoght too, but last time he got hurt like dat was against Corley and the same thing happened...

Wow! This guy has one hell of a right. I bet he would've had more stamina had he not fought 3 weeks ago..
I was absolutly impressed, i like the guy, showed tremendous heart.
