Romanian native and Canadian resident Lucian Bute is one of the top prospects in the super middleweight division now. I've posted about him a few times before. Tonight he faces his toughest opponent yet in his young career when he faces Kabary Salem, winner of a number of minor belts and perhaps most famous for KDing Joe Calzaghe in their fight in 2004 (before going on to lose the decision).
Bute is 13-0 with all wins coming by KO or TKO. His biggest wins so far are a 4-round demolishing of aging titlist Dingaan Thobela and an impressive win over fellow prospect Christian Cruz.
Bute's handspeed and relentless attack are his biggest assets. Not the hardest puncher, but gets in enough to wear you down.
This fight should determine whether or not Bute is genuine contender in the shaky supper middleweight division.
Bute won by TKO! Salem tried to keep up with him managing to win one round but was forced to quit in the 8th round. Very impressive victory for the young prospect. I'm not saying he's ready for the big dog's but a fight against Sheika or Veit would be a good test.
This fight won't determine if he is a legit threat for the title at 168 lbs, but, it will further Bute's progression and esteem. He should win, there's no doubt about that after seeing the odds for this fight.
Well, if he looks bad then it will be tough for him to recover. He made a few mistakes in his last fight so hopefully he can straighten things out. If all goes well it should be a relatively easy win, but you never know with prospects.
