Who wins this fight, how and why?
I'd like to hear some opinions on this. Actually I'd love to see this fight when I think about it.
I'll weigh-in after you guys have had a say.
I'd have to go with Calzaghe on points. Calzaghe would drag Tarver into a war and I would imagine the scores would read something like 117-112
I know a lot of you are pissed off with Joe at the moment because the fight with Lacy has been put back, but Calzaghe is a quality fighter... If he was as bad as some of you are saying, then why would Jeff Lacy bother fighting him?
lacy wants to fight calzaghe simply because lacy wants to unify the titles.
Go wattch the fight, if you haven't seen it yet, then you should find it. I think Johnson won the fight.
I've seen the fight. I don't think anyone could argue if the decision had gone either way but I had Sheika just edging it mainly due to the kd.
Well Joe's not exactly like Ricardo Mayorga....
oh absoluteley...joe is more technically sound and more refined than that. i was implying that compared to tarver joe would be the presser...
WOW, another ridiculous thread discussing Joey Clazone vs. somebody who can fight back
IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN
Calzone will NEVER fight someone who poses any threat at defeating him
EVER
Calzone-Lacy, Calzone-Tarver, Calzone-Johnson, Calzone-Jones, WHY BOTHER bringing up these fights?
let's talk about fights that MIGHT actually happen
like Calzone vs. a milkman (those guys are tough, nevermind)
or how about Calzone vs. Laili Ali (wait, she's to dangerous....)
or maybe Calzone vs. Brian Viloria (once again, too dangerous)
Glen Johnson was robbed against Sheika. He actually won that fight.
There wasn't a lot in it from what I remember so I wouldn't call it a robbery, certainly no more of one than Johnson's win over Tarver.
Johnson has improved but i know exactly what you mean, i think all the boys at light heavy are currently overated(although Jones was once a very, very good fighter).
Yeah, these guys are just living off the good fortune they had in catching RJJ on the slide.
Sheika is not, no matter what happened when they fought, better than Glenn Johnson.
There's not a world of difference in their abilities so at best you could say they're evenly matched. Johnson's just a dedicated plodder and I'm happy he got some success because of the way he goes about his business but please don't try to make him out to be an elite level fighter.
Well, seeing as Sheika beat Johnson I'd have to disagree.

Give me a break....no 175lber would duck Calzaghe !
You know better than this Evil.....
I guess Calzaghe's lack of quality opposition has never been his fault ? I certainly don't see Calzaghe as a fighter striking fear in anyone.
In fact...what happened with his proposed match with Glenn Johnson ?
Tarver asked for a lot more money than he's worth which is well known as being the best way to duck a fight. Whether he can beat Calzaghe if a whole different story but he did duck him.
I dont see a big weight issue anyway, Calzaghe has major problems with weight he'd make light heavy very easily. It would be a good fight to make.
I don't think weight or power would be an issue for Calzaghe as he's been struggling for years to make 168.
Can't argue on the recent opposition but struggling against the Glen Johnson's of this world isn't exactly impressive.
Glenn Johnson is superior to anyone Calzaghe has faced this millenium.
He has a 175lb resume....& one that's been UPDATED.
Calzaghe hasn't had one fight at 175, & hasn't beaten a quality guy for years.

Pitty Tarver isnt as confident about beating Calzaghe as you guys, if that were the case maybe he wouldnt have ducked him and the fight would have happened already.
Back then its definitely a win for Calzaghe, now i'm not 100%.

Woodhall, Eubank and Reid were all well skilled boxers as you probably know Jabs.
Tarver may have a slight reach advantage but JC's quicker so I'd go for Calzaghe UD. Tarver's hardly got a resume to die for either.

Calzaghe has yet to beat a fighter as skilled as Tarver, down at 168....but, he's gonna go UP to 175 & outbox/defeat Tarver ?
That's some serioous homerism there, martin.

if Byron Mitchell can floor calzaghe then Tarver can fuckin kill him, if Charles Brewer can cause calzaghe so much trouble then Tarver can cause calzaghe hell

Eubank was more skilled than Tarver in his prime ( i dont think ive seen any more skilled than Banks in his prime ) although i suppose Banks speed & skills had decreased by the time he fought calzaghe
