For those of you who remember Smokin Joe. Who do you think would have won if they fought in their primes? SMokin Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson???
I think Joe would have pulled this one out. Although they were both short and both Hook Crazy. I still see Joe getting this one.
There is NO WAY "prime" Tyson could handle a "prime" Frazier. Frazier was a non-stop wrecking machine. Tyson was a young and untested puncher. And for anyone who thinks that Tyson would KO Frazier the same way Foreman did, you are wrong. Tyson doesn't have the same pure punching power that Foreman had. He also didn't have the same reach, chin or heart.
Tyson could not, and would not hit Frazier. He'd look at Frazier and see him comming in pretty much straight at him and try to hit him with some bombs, full well knowing how strong he is. The thing is Frazier wont get hit. Frazier's mobility on comming in is second to none and would nail Tyson with gigantic hooks upstairs.
i think that frazier would win- he was relentless and would keep coming forward, not giving tyson time to breath. he also wasnt easy to hit as ali found, with his quick head movement.he would keep a fast pace throughout the fight and his superior stamina and heart would prove to be important as he wins by stoppage late in the fight.tyson may stun him early in the fight but the onslaught would be too much.
also the ppl who say frazier's a slugger are not giving him the respect he deserves. he crowded his opponents (because he had good stamina and heart to go forward relentlessly) and when he was inside he used head movement to protect himself and landed with sharp punches to the head and body. foreman was a slugger and his punches were more wide and "wild"- ali could take foremans wild body punches. in manila ali wouldnt stay on the ropes for too long, as frazier was hitting ali cleverly with short, sharp, accurate punches- aiming at the gut, kidneys, under the ribs, so he realy was hurting ali.
It took a lot of heat to put the prime version of Frazier away.
After Frazier kept coming would Tyson get discouraged?
What nobody is considering is the fact that Frazier would know what he was getting into with Tyson. I don't think he would want to stand in front of Tyson and trade all day.
Frazier would survive the first few rounds and be the better fighter on the way to a late stoppage or UD win.
I would also say the same thing about Spinks. Looking back at their careers, I would say that the Spinks on that day would beat Tyson. Of course, I could be wrong......
Tyson in his prime would get to Frazier and early. Frazier's been in the ring with the best and some hard hitters like Foreman. But he's never faced someone with a very similar style to his and hits harder than him with either hand & faster. For every 2/3 punches he threw Tyson would double that output. I was watching the classics sports channel of Tysons early fights and his handspeed was phenomenal for someone with his build. The combos he threw with the power behind them was scary.
hmm
Tyson's style is perfect to beat Frazier. Or, Frazier's style is perfect for Tyson to eat up. A short, stocky, lumbering slugger like Frazier would get destroyed by Tyson. Tyson's chin might get tested, but the fight would be over before Frazier had a chance to rip up Tyson's soul.
Tyson by stoppage in the first quarter of the fight.
Tyson loses to Foreman, maybe Ali, but he'd beat Frazier.
Tyson, in his prime, struggled with taller BOXERS- not with sluggers. A guy like Frazier would play into Tyson's hands, actually. There are few fighters in history who could have slugged it out with Mike & survived.
Frazier was vulnerable to uppercuts, & Tyson had some of the best uppercuts in history.
Tyson was too fast, punched too hard, & had the wrong style for Joe to handle.
Frazier was far tougher, & more noble, than Tyson ever was....I'll say that.
i think frazier has more heart than anybody else in history. but aside from technique, power, and heart, joe didnt offer much.
besides, tyson in his prime was UNBEATABLE.
Tyson by TKO.
joe didnt have a better defense than a lot of people and tyson is included. tyson had a great defense probably the best ever,
That statement right there is proof positive that you don't know squat about boxing. Tyson had the best defense ever? Not even close. Ever heard of Ali, Holmes, Louis and Charles?
A lot of people assume since Foreman demolished Frazier that Tyson would do the same. Not so. Foreman was much bigger, stronger and had a better chin than Tyson. Not 30 seconds into Frazier-Foreman, Joe lands a huge left hook. Foreman walked thru it. Tyson would not. If it didn't knock him down it would shake his confidence and Frazier would rip Tyson apart.
Joe had the better defense and can take plenty of punishment. I'd also give Joe the advantage of better stamina and more heart. He'd outwork Tyson before Tyson would be tko'd in the 10th.
joe didnt have a better defense than a lot of people and tyson is included. tyson had a great defense probably the best ever, frazier had none all he did was come right in ducking but it wsnt a defense so much as just a habit of the way he fought. tyson was a lot more powerful than frazier also, and definitely faster and more accurate. tyson could have easily got under fraziers punches and slipped them to to counter with his huge hooks. might even be a repeat of tyson vs fraziers son marvis only it would go longer of course but i could see that kind of ending.
Tyson never fought anyone of Fraziers level when he was at the top. Its hard to tell what would have happened, the Tyson from the Spinks or Biggs fights would have a chance. I think with Joe being a late starter, Tyson would knock him out quick, first or second round from a left hook. If Joe's chin got him through the first few rounds he'd have no problems.
Tyson cant fight people that throw punches back at him. Especially guys that throw punches constantly for 15 rounds and throw hard punches. Frazier might get decked a couple times early but he would no question stop Tyson. Once you punch Tyson back he breaks down. Tyson would take a brutal beating. stoppage in latter rounds. And yes I am talking about the mythical "prime Tyson."
Hey I agree with you. Joe would have destroyed Mike. The prime Mike would have been no match for Frazier.
