It is kinda funny if you think about it! Common sense would say if you move up in weight the more power you gain but it is not the case for boxers! their punching power diminishes.
I think that may be corect cause when you move up your hitting larger men who can take your punch for example.
a middle weight is used to taking middle weight punches, so he obviously can take a welterweights punch when he moves up.
Can you name some fighters who maintained their one punch power when they moved up?
I can only name one right now and that is Thomas Hearns
Naseem Hamed.
when he moved up his power got so big it was unbelievable if you ask me.
He started as a bantam i believe and slowly worked through to featherweight.
Their power is the same, but now they're hitting larger men....who are accustomed to taking bigger punches.
Most of the time, also, a fighter is moving up & away from his best/most natural weight.
That answers that question.

they lose the speed...therefore the velocity on the punches isnt the same..but i really dont know if their loseing power...bigger fighters can take bigger punches
Cotto does not haev one punch power.
If cotto moves up to 147 he is getting murderd and if he moves up to 154 he wont last. He is short and stubby.
I agree that he doesnt have 1 punch power. But the 147 pound division is easier than the 140
Boxers gain power as they move up, but it is less effective against people who are normally bigger.
Miguel Cotto lokks like he could move up and keep power

Nigel Benn said that he had to sacrifice speed to carry the muscle that got him to 168lbs, and said that when speed decreases power goes with it because, power = strength + speed. He said that he didn't get his power back until working with medicine balls with Kevin Sanders for the McClellan fight.
Did Sanders teach him the sacred rabbit punching technique also?
well Pacman is one of a kind, nyahahahahaha. And ya, good observation. Pac seems to carry his power even though he's been movin up in weight like crazy! he KOed bigga gays naturally like Barrera. That's why I have Pacman bein harder hitter than Rafael. Wehn Rafael moves up in weight and KO Pac or Barrera, then it means he is equal or ahead of Pac in terms of power.
Actually it doesn't mean Pac is necessarily a better puncher....it means he's a better FIGHTER.
I don't think Pac's power beat MAB, as much as his speed & tenacity did. Sure, he hurt MAB with his power, but those other two things were bigger factors.
pacman had tons of power when he moved up seems he gained more power.

they dont lose their power...they actually gain a tad more power. but these r bigger men, who r used to takin the big punches. so they might still get KO's, but their going to be taking biggger punches, n their going to be considered smaller
Julian Jackson had some great KO's at 160, after having great KO's at 154. But, is 6lbs the kind of "big leap" we're talking about ?
Alexis Arguello had plenty of KO's from 126 all the way through 140.
Bob Fitzsimmons KO'd midles, lt. heavies, & heavies.
These guys were still big punchers as they rose in weight, but they didn't necessarily retain the same effectiveness from their original weight class.
