Just stumbled across this thread. Thanks for the staunch defence, J. Then again, I wouldn't expect anything else from a mate with such fierce loyalty!
Glad most of you enjoyed the letter.
I can't be arsed to dismantle the feeble argument about having to be a practitioner to be qualified to write about something, though I understand where it comes from.
Never dipped in here much but most of you seem sound lads and I'll look in more often. You can't avoid silly bastards in life, though boxing does seem to filter them out quicker than most environments.
no worries Ian, nice to see you here mate.

This is the latest from the Sky Sports website:
FRANK FACING A FIGHT TO KEEP HATTON
Friday 26th August 2005
Frank Warren faces a fight to keep hold of Ricky Hatton.
Reports suggest that the undisputed light-welterweight champion is wanted by a number of leading American promoters following his sensational success over Kostya Tszyu in June.
The victory was shown live in the States and has catapulted Hatton into the spotlight on the other side of the Atlantic at a time when his contract with Warren's Sports Network is up for renewal.
Britain's leading promoter has taken care of the 26-year-old Mancunian since he turned professional eight years ago and remains confident that he will retain his promotional rights having secured the dream date with Tszyu in Manchester.
"As far as Sports Network are concerned we have a binding agreement with Ricky Hatton, which we expect will be honoured and we look forward to continue our successful relationship together," said a statement on frankwarren.tv.
But as soon as he beat Tszyu, Hatton made no bones about wanting to fight big-name opponents in the States, where Warren does not carry the same clout.
And the news that he has not yet re-signed will not have gone unnoticed by the likes of Bob Arum, Gary Shaw, and Lou diBella, who has taken Jermain Taylor to the top of the pile following his victory over Bernard Hopkins.
Hatton insists he is a free agent and, it seems, can his have pick of the US promoters if he decides to leave the Sports Network stable - although his choice of opponents for his next bout may not be so lucrative.
The Hitman wants WBC champ Floyd Mayweather, but with the Pretty Boy intent on trying to win six world titles at different weights, he has already been making noises about stepping up to face welterweight king Zab Judah or even middlweight maestro Ronald 'Winky' Wright.
WBO champ Miguel Cotto is also an option, but he is struggling to make the 140lb limit and has to defend against Gianluca Branco in September.
That leaves newly-crowend WBA titlist Carlos Maussa as the obvious choice, following his surprise win over Vivian Harris in June.
The Colombian's unorthodox style shocked champion Harris, but his windmill punching and wild lunges are unlikely to pose Hatton problems, although a fight with him will be the least lucrative.

The fact that Ian got a response from Frank warren so quickly hould tell you something. But i guess you are too thick to work it out. I would say it due to one too many shots to the head but hey, you wore those big poncey headguards hey so that aint the case.

Like your the man who knows it all! That's right you know so much more than us because you 'claim' to have sparred with all these different pro's :D Doesn't mean shit m8 you could've sparred with Sugar Ray Robinson in his prime for all I care, it doesn't make your opinion correct or better than any of the rest of us so get off yor high horse eh? There's no need for it
And atleast Eubank fought Benn twice,Watson twice,Collins twice,Rocky in Berlin, worldclass Tony Thornton, and ofcourse Lindell Holmes who was obviously better than Brewer.
Also, Malinga in 92 and Wharton in 94 were at their best (and were legit tough opponents, just ask Nigel Benn!). Essett was in the opposite semi-final to Eubank at the 1984 US National Golden Gloves, Eubank was robbed against a hometown favourite that Essett then stopped in the final. So Essett was pretty good, former NABF champion who beat DeWitt, Sims etc!
By the way PP, how do you know about Calzaghe winning ABA's in 91, 92 and 93 at three different weights? Only I'm supposed to know that shit.
JuyJuy the sanigar thing is irrelevent to me but why do you have it in for McNeilly, he's a journalist who runs a website - why does he have to had boxed, be a promotor etc to have the right to post two sides of an interesting story, why you getting so arsey about him, fuck me half the writers involved in boxing couldn't move around a ring for a round nevermind anything else why single him out
about as many as you have cock, dont fuckin push me again ive already embarrassed you once with your jackanories.
just in case anyone missed it.
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43248&page=4&pp=10&highlight=saniger
Ian has written artuicles for boxing news boxing monthly and national newspapers.
so go make up some more bullshit about the sanigers and sparring eastman. yeah right. You seem to be quite partial to making up rubbish that you cant back up.
Mind you on the bright side ive heard Eubank is looking for a bitch nw, he doesnt need to look much further than you does he.
I dont fucking like you, its apprarantyou dont like me so lets do one another a favour and steer clear and certainly dont start taking the piss out of my mates. At least they do what they say and can back it up with facts not made up bullshit.
You haven't got a clue who I am, you pathetic wannabe-somebody. And you don't know shit about Sanigar and his true colours, you don't know the reason why Adrian Stone fucked off, or how he tried Stealing Calzaghe after Joe OWNED Francis and Catley at the 92 ABA's (stopping Dean Francis in semi, stopping Glenn Catley in final), or why Jane Couch started promoting herself, or why Julius Francis hates Sanigar's guts. So I'd sit down and drink a nice tall glass of STFU juice if I were you.
As for Ian 'Keyboard Warrior' McNeilly, let's get him in the ring and see what he's made off shall we? Or how about HE promotes Ricky Hatton? How about that?
oh and ricky hatton needs to go with arum and i believe he will because i have on tape when they asked arum if he will try to sign hatton he said "no comment" then someone said "we'll take that as a yes then?" and arum said "no comment" this was months ago.
for the guy who said that about roys press conference after de valle, i have it on tape. heres what he actually said. "i dont know who's next, reggie johnson i'm hoping will be next. then, maybe eubanks if he won tonight, did he win?" someone said something, then roy said "ideally my next three fights will be reggie johnson, joe calzaghe, chris eubank and then i can put my feet up and that'll be me. if there are no more challenges for me this time next year then it is time to call it a day, thank you all and it's been a great career." then someone said "eubank lost by tko in nine rounds" and roy said "i dont know how that can be but im sure he can come back and win it next time."
Is it me or is Warren guilty of hippocracy in his response? - he justifies himself by claiming that belts are not as important as fighters, so he can't be blamed for for failing to make 'big fights' - but then he claims he wants Maussa for Hatton, rather than Cotto, when he admits that Maussa is the bigger belt but the poorer fighter.
Excuse and reasons are two different thing mate, its hard to tell if they are valid or not. Maybe all these people with Letter/Faxes to prove things should show them to prove things.
That's what I was thinking as well, I've slagged Warren off as much as anybody in the past, saying Hatton etc. should jump ship but you need to hear both sides of the story, Warren did a revealing interview with Sky around the same time as the Hatton/Harris/Pinto fights fell through and the guy did have legitimate reasons for those fights not happening, neither of them were his fault it was the opponent, neither is the injury prone Calzaghe pulling out of fights but particularly the Johnson fight as that would've been the biggest(they do call Joe 'Sicknote' for a reason!)and you need to remember both parites have to agree terms & stick to them so maybe it's just easier to say "Ah Warren's fucked it up again" but as we have 2 different camps with 2 different stories coming out it's hard knowing who to believe.
