I admire the way he rebounded from the loss to Harding, & to the way he was losing to Harding the second time around.
He really, when you think about, takes advantage of his second chances...
He came back from drug addiction, the Harding bouts, in the rematch with Roy, & in the rematch with Johnson.
He has a big mouth to some, but I think he's a charismatic dude.
His "excuses" line to Roy Jones has to go down as one of the funniest & ballsiest things one fighter has ever said to another.
Some good mind-fucking on his part.
I'm not a huge fan, but I do think he's a very good, interesting fighter.
RJJ was too quick to get hit. I just saw the RJJ/Hopkins fight and that was a very close fight. Hopkins was much quicker back then than he is today but he gave RJJ too much respect. However, when Hopkins did try to win rounds, he did land a few hard hits but so many other missed. And RJJ was using mostly head and torso movements - not blocking.
But his unorthodox style was his undoing. Once you lose that speed and reflex, the fundimentals of boxing can save an aging boxer. And RJJ was never an orthodox boxer. He rarely jabbed, he rarely had both hands up. He always stuck his face out too far. This fall, we'll see just how Roy has adjusted to his fading speed. He still has better speed than most fighters so if he can just use the fundimentals of boxing, he could win a rematch.
Yeah I think Hopkins did okay in the later rounds of that fight. He did give Roy to much respect in the early rounds. Later in the fight he was coming right at him and getting him against the ropes and seemed to have him slightly hurt a few times. But He never landed any dynamite flush punches.
The only weak chin is yours faggot. Phukk go do lobotomyyou piece of shiet.
So Roy Jones has a strong chin then. A strong ability to take punches to the head? Please tell me this is not something you are going to contend.
Tarver is always talking about how he has followed and studied Roy, watched him his whole career, etc. Tarver is a huge admirer of Roy, despite his trash talking. Hell, Tarver even wears RJJ brand shoes for his fights.
Roy never loses to Tarver in his prime, but these are different days. We'll see what happens. As time goes by I feel more and more like picking Roy to win, but we'll see.
Roy always had a week chin. Everybody therefore had a punchers chance against roy in Prime. Tarver is of course no exception.
hmm

Tarver will lose the rematch against Jones especially if he comes in the ring in the shape he was in against johnson in their first fight. Tarver/Jones 2 was a joke, but very entertaining. All in all someone needs to shut Tarvers big mouth and i cant wait till Roy does it for him in an embarrassing fasion this time.
I think Tarver is a awesome boxer but I just don't like his pitty pay style he did in the 2 Johnson fights...
I liked the way he fouhgt Roy and tried to KNOCK HIM THE FUCK OUT...I like how Tarver trash talked RJJ...RJJ deserved it...
I think Tarver will knock him out senseless!
ps. Tarver is my dad, were you serious about him studying roys life? If so, then how so?
You expect all Roy's opponents to tell him how great he is? Roy talks about himself enough. It was about damn time someone disrespected him. Within 7 minutes of asking Roy if he had any excuses, Tarver knocked the arrogant bastard out and permanently damaged the man's legacy. Roy had it coming, and Tarver had it coming, and it was beautiful.
Well that what I meant, Tarver had to sell the fight and he is a good trash talker.

I was the biggest Tarver fan around up until he beat Roy. I was so happy for him accomplishing everything he wanted that I almost cried that night. I was with this dude from the beginning. But he definitely lost something after knocking Roy out. He gave a halfhearted effort against Johnson but followed with a better performance in the rematch. If he beats Roy again, no love lost. If he loses, oh well. Problem with a guy like Tarver is once you make your dreams come true, there's not a lot else worth fighting for. Tarver's was beating Roy, and he did it. I hope he always dreamed of knocking Roy out twice!
Why did your dad turn pro so late in his life when has so good an amateure record?
2 reasons...
1. he was addicted to coke
2. he was busy studying roy's life
i like tarver alot, but im a rjj fan at heart... i think im rooting for roy in october, but i have a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach about that fight
I dont know you dad but he is pretty good boxer. I actually payed to watch you dad knock Roy Jones out. I think it was money well spent even though the fight went less than 2 rounds.
