Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, or Duran?

Sugar Ray. One of my fave ever boxers so I'm biased. :boxing:

For the record Leonard owns wins over the other 3, however Duran was a LIGHTWEIGHT who was able to move up 2 weights and challenge the prime Leonard and win the welterweight title. Tommy Hearns ktfo Duran sick as fu## at 154 (Durans 3rd weight class)a bit past his prime, and then Hearns got ktfo by Hagler in 3 rounds, and after this Duran past his prime was able to go a full 15 rounds with Hagler(which Leonard did not want to fight 15 rds w/Hagler and was able to put it in the contract for his fight with the Marvelous one to 12rds and use a 20ft ring instead of a 18ft ring)and almost win a decision, Duran was up after 12rds. Hearns definately won a rematch with Leonard at 168lbs, the fight was a bit in favor of Hearns but the key difference was he knocked that Leonard down 2xs. My list would be 1.Leonard 2.Duran 3. Hearns 4. Hagler(gotta take points off for only staying at middleweight his whole career and losing to a fading Leonard over 12 rds. for his dumb ass thinking he could outbox leonard in the first 2 rds. before finally realizing he has to be his old selft and take the fight to Leonard). i voted for leonard because, indeed, he won over the three it could have been hagler, however he only stayed in one division

lol some of you guys act like leonard and Hearns are the only guys who beat Duran. Had had 15 losses in the last 20 years of his career. Can you say hanging on WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too long? If he had hung up the gloves after the first leonard fight he'd be considered one of the greatest fighters ever. If he hung up the gloves after the Barkley fight he'd be considered a quitter, but he would also be arguably one of the greatest p4p fighters ever. But man those last 10, 12 years were an utter disgrace. Big fat slow palooka.

It is sad... The only thing lot of fans remember from Duran is him getting KTFO by Hearns or No Mas... He may have not been the best at the time.. but he is a legend...

its sad that duran only has 4 votes, leanord beat a terribly out of shape duran after duran jumped up 2 weight classes to beat him, leanord has zero non contriversal wins over them, he was losing to tommy, then a premature stoppage, he got beat by a lightweight, then manipulated his way, into fighting him out of shape, he waited for hagler to be a shot fighter in possibly the biggest ring in the history of boxing and the fight was still close, many people felt he lost, he ducked a rematch with tommy after the ref suddenly stopped a fight he was losing, hearns was in more trouble the previous round, Duran is the best top 5 pfp alltime

Are you from Massacchusets or somethin? I live in St. petersburg Florida now but lived in Lynn Ma. until I was 12 just remember Hagler and Aerosmith and shit like that from when I was a kid.

Hagler was WAY past his prime when he fought Leonard and Hearns.. but Hagler was the bigger man too... my personal favorite was Thomas Hearns though...then Hagler..

Ray lost his first bout against Duran. And that was after Duran moved up in weight. You can't compare the fighters based on their encounters alone. Point being that p4p a prime Duran beats a prime Leonard. How would the Hagler-Leonard bout have gone if they fought 15 rounds, the ring was smaller and Jose Guerra was not a poor man getting rich? Or better yet, if Hagler was at his prime? How would the Hearns be looked upon if the ref doesn't stop the bout (prematurly?) in his first bout against Leonard? Being ahead on points and winning the fight. And btw. it is never an argument that others share your opinion. More trife. Leonard dropped a competitive decision to Duran, the same way Duran dropped a competitve decision to Hagler. Leonard also did so fighting toe to toe with Duran. In the rematch, he fought his fight, and Duran quit in frustration. Also, you ask about a prime Hagler vs a prime Duran (a Giant IF) and neglect to mention that on the night Ray Leonard beat Hagler, he hadn't been in the ring in over 3 years. You are the one who started acting like everyone that voted Leonard was brainwashed. Once again, your opinion is not gospel.

Once again, for you to suggest othewise and act like it's factual is ignorant. You can't change a fight result in a discussion and act like it carries weight. It doesn't. Of the four, Hagler is the only one who holds victories over the other three. And he never lost to Duran or Hearns like Ray did. Outright wrong. Ray fought Hearns past his prime but so did Hagler. Nonsense. Ray KNOCKED OUT Tommy Hearns in 1981 when he was 32-0.

The second Duran-Leonard fight really wasn't that close when he quit. Ray had taken command of the fight and Duran was frustrated and humiliated. His enormous machismo was being pissed all over in public and he couldn't take it any more. The first fight was much closer. Leonard fought Duran's fight the first time around. I know Duran took the slim decision but that fight was basically even. The thing about Duran is that he was a great lightweight champ. But what a lot of boxing fans will remember just as vividly as the young hands of stone, is a guy who turned into a quiter and then later a big fat slow palooka. His legacy is tarnished forever.

If you're going to compare fighters historiclly, you don't use your opinion of a fight result like it carries weight when it's the opposit of the actual result. Of the four, Ray Leonard is the only one who holds victories over the other 3, having stopped 2 of the 3. On top of that, he won titles in 5 weight divisions. You bring up the rematch with Hearns like its a slight agaisnt him, but leave out him nearly shutting out Duran in the rubber match. And Norris? Please. That's like holding Duran's loss to Joppy against him. You want to choose one of the others over Ray? That's fine. But don't act like your opinion is gospel. And if there was one it would be pointless discussing because we would all have the same opinion. Of the four, Hagler is the only one who holds victories over the other three. Hagler and Duran held their titles for years btw. That's a great achievment that is overlooked often today. You want to choose Ray over Hagler and Duran? That's fine. I thought it was boxing-head common knowledge that "Manos de pietra" is one of the greatest of all-time p4p. Like "who was better Duran,Armstrong,Ali,or Robinson??" should be the question. ^^half joking folks. But in my opinion Duran had the better career fighting in 1,2,3,4,5 decades. He beat a prime Leonard who would be my No. 2. Hagler 3, and Hearns...4 but close.
