OK the criteria is that they must have been CLEARLY losing before they dropped the big equalizer and won the fight...
Whats the best KO from a fighter who was getting schooled??? Stoppages count also....
The two that come to mind for me are Meldrick Taylor Vs Chavez obviously and definitely Herol Graham Vs Julian Jackson.... Jackson was getting battered and was about to get pulled out by his corner when he knocked Graham out cold with one punch.... :boxing:
Greatest KO from behind?
The answer to that would be Joe Louis KO's Billy Conn in the 13th round to save his title. He was waaayyyy behind in the fight.
archie moore vs yvon durelle 1. moore was knocked down three times in the 1st and once more in another round. but he kept getting up, knocked down durelle once in a round. and KOd him in the next.
any other comeback fight doesnt even compare.
Guys, You cant take anything away from chavez, he was wearing Taylor down in the last two rounds; and besides, it is not the referees job to worry about time left. thats why they have the ten second clacker, and timekeepers. It was an unbelievable circumstance, but the ref did his job..
geesh, get back to the point of the thread...if you want to argue the chavez-taylor shit again then start the 12,524th thread on it.
The ref has an obligation to be aware that the fight has 10 secs left. If he was aware, like he should have been, then he stole the fight from Taylor. In any case, you cannot blame Taylor. Arum jumped on the ring apron when Steel asked Taylor if he wanted to continue so Taylor was looking to his right. If you are fucked up with 2 secs left, but still standing, there is no chance you're getting more fucked up so the fight should NOT have been stopped. Considering the magnitude of the fight, Steele made a huge fucking mistake. Regardles, regardless, regardless of Taylor being hurt, he had the fight won and deserved to see the end.
I wish it were that simple but it's not.
Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe Walcott
Rock was behind 4-7, 5-7, 4-8 on the judges scorecards and in desperate need of a KO against Jersey Joe. Round 13 of 15 he comes out and blows Joe's head off his shoulders with a terrific right hook to the Jaw leaving him down and out
Rocky Marciano vs Ezzard Charles
I know Rock wasn't behind on the scorecards, he dominated the fight. Rock had a very severe cut on his nose and the fight was close to being stopped when KO goodnight, The Rock wins again.
Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo
Another one which wasn't in desperate need of a KO, but with the 2 knockdowns he would have been a bit off on the scorecards if he hadn't have pulled off one hell of a comeback. Down twice in the 8th and he goes on to win by TKO, just fantastic.
Those are there to let everyone know there is ten seconds left just like the clapping.
If the ref feels a fight should be stopped at the 2:55 mark or the .5 second mark then he shoulds stop it.
Its not his job to keep time thats a fact. Yeah I know everyone likes to think it is but it aint his job is to make sure its a clean fight and keep the fighters best intrest in mind.
He looked at a guy who was beaten up badly, both eyes shut, blood pouring out of every hole in his head and asked him twice if he was ok and both times he got no responce he should have stopped it.
I agree 100%. OldGringo made a good case, and I think this is the only subject i've ever disagreed with him on, but when it comes down to it, all Taylor had to do is answer the ref, he did not, and he paid the price.
Acelino Freitas over Jorge Barrios was up there. He was down big time on my cards at the time of the K.O. in the 12th.

Usually I totally agree with you on most topics jose, but if that were the case then they wouldn't have those red lights in the corners like the had back then to signal to the ref that the round was in it's last ten seconds.

Castillo/Corrales if it weren't for that TKO he would've clearly lost seeing as how round 10 would've been 10-7 for Castillo
Not that it matters much, but can they score a round 10-6? I thought since Corrrales got knocked down twice it was a 10-7, then Steele took a point away for spitting out the mouthpiece. If they score rounds 10-6, I think that would have been the proper scoring in that 10th round of that fight.
NO the ref is not obligated to keep track of time he is the ref NOT the time keeper. That bullshit plain and simple.
The ref asked him twice if he was ok and he got no answer who's fault is that? Thats right its Taylor's fault. Deal with it.

Michael Carbajal against Chiquita Gonzalez, Carbajal was being dominated throughout the fight, had been knockdown twice and was losing the fight when he got Gonzalez against the ropes and knock him out in round 7.

Steele did the right thing.
I can never forget the Weaver KO of Tate for the WBA world Heavyweight title. Tate was very highly regarded and quite a few thought he could beat Holmes at the time. It was 2.15 into the 15th round and Tate was ahead by these scores
Referee: Ernesto Magana 138-133 | Judge: Nicasio L. Drake 137-134 | Judge: Cesar Ramos 136-133
one massive left hook and goodnight Irene
