..been reading the newspapers today here in the UK and Clinton Woods' people have been saying that he'll be fighting Bernard Hopkins next with the winner likely to meet either Roy Jones Jr or Joe Calzaghe, anybody else know anything as of yet?
So let me get this straight... Hopkins is going up to light-heavy and then back down to middle? Can't be done, surely? At least not in such a short space of time.
I have read that Hopkins is always in the gym and his weight never goes up between fights. If he fights a bigger guy, he will come in near middleweight? He has the frame to add weight, but in the short time available, makes no sense. Then to lose weight for Taylor? Don't make me laugh.
Taylor needed that win to go on, Hopkins needed it for icing. Taylor won't risk his career with a rematch for fear that Hopkins will show him a different style of fight. It might have took five rounds for Hopkins to come alive, maybe he thought he would only need a couple to knock Taylor down, if it wasn't for Taylor's conditioning Hopkins would have done so.Hopkins mistake he lives with. I hate what if's but two heavier rounds from the get go and Hopkins would still be on top.
I agree, Hopkins wasn't out of his element, he has a couple more in him, but there is a lot of hungry gloves in that division, time will be against him now. Taylor fought a good fight, still has more to grow, a Hopkins rematch would be too risky when he's got rested fighters just ready to sign.
I think that is way too much for the old man. He just got beat (not beaten down, but beat) in a 12 round fight. A Tarver fight will go 12 rounds, and who knows what RJJ has left. Then fight Taylor again two months later?
he got punched once
I agree, plus he has the blueprint to beat him from the Taylor fight.
I wish people would stop building up Taylor.. Taylor is Wack to me, he isn't good at all, just has energy.. I thought that he was good, but Hopkins exposed him as just a hyped kid with more hunger than any other middle Weight, but has to still develope.
Tarver vs. Hopkins? damn, i don't want that fight to happen..
For me, that's like seeing Zab Judah fight Diego Corrales.. I don't want to see either one lose because i respect and like both fighters.. And i don't want a roy jones fight, coz i don't want Roy to get embarrassed again.. I would like to see him take on Taylor again, beat him, then go at Jeff Lacey..
Hopkins is making a mistake imo....He will not beat Tarver or Jones...especially at 175...So what if he looses that fight then is he still gonna rematch Taylor??? I see a bad ending for B-Hop...
Did you just say better conditioned ??????
HE was out of gas in the 8th round , and holding on for dear life in the 10th . Try again Scrap .
You must have missed the part about fighting a rested and better conditioned Taylor in December. No mention of the 1st fight in July there was there?
I don't expect Taylor to come in December with the same strategy and run out of gas in 8 rounds. I'm sure Hopkins won't expect that either.
If Hopkins had schooled Taylor and cruised to a 12 round UD, winning 10 or 11 of the rounds, that would be one thing. Hopkins used a lot of energy in the fight, first running and then brawling.
I just don't think the old man can do 3 tough fights in 6 months. Especially when the last will be against a rested and better conditioned Taylor.
Hopkins didn't use alot of energy in my opinion. He fought his fight at his pace. He also didn't run that's what Hakkar did. Hopkins used movement from side to side. There's a huge difference.

That's the way it was going to happen anyway.

That's the way it was going to happen anyway. If Hopkins would of beat Taylor then he would still fought two more time this year. Hopkins doesn't have the mentality of a beaten fighter so I think that helps with the loss. Actually a fight with Tarver or Jones won't likely be very physical either so that would also help.

i feel Hopkins has the ability to fight at a calibur level about 3-4 more times TOPS. I'm just wondering if he'll still fight after his birthday or whatever the deal was with his mother and his promise.
All I have heard is it's either Tarver or Jones in October and the rematch with Taylor in December.
