Everyone is looking at this fight as a whole. Which in boxing you can not. You must seperate this fight into twelve individual rounds. I agree hopkins did more damage, landed more shots , and closed out the fight strong, but he didnt do shit until at least round 6. I have heard plenty of people say that they feel taylor took 1-6. Now if you feel he won one through six then there is no way that hopkins was robbed. Maybe a draw at the best for hopkins.
People are only talkin shit on taylor cause he didnt dominate, well guess what. Neither did bernard hopkins. Did this look like a typical bernard hopkins fight? No it didnt. He normally would have started to make his move about two rounds earlier then he did this time, but he couldnt. Hopkins himself was talkin about who he was gonna fight next rather then the fight in front of him. That shows shows to me that Hopkins under estamated Taylor. He thought it was gonna be a cake walk and it wasnt. He even said he felt that he could wait till later in the fight and go for a knockout. But for the first time in over a decade he couldnt get it when he wanted it.
To me its a combination of his age and taylors underappreciated
skill. If Hopkins were to have come into this fight ready to fight at the opening bell, then maybe a different story. But he didnt. Taylor won this fight cause hopkins didnt fight smart and taylor did. He said before the fight that he wanted to win the first six rounds then Box hopkins rather then fight him. And im sorry, like it or not, respect it or not Taylor fought a tactically smarter fight then hopkins. And for that reason we have a new champ. So dont be mad at taylor. Turn your anger to hopkins, cause he's the one that made all his fans that talked shit look like Asses.
And another thing, it is so annoying to know that Every Hopkins fan would being saying how good taylor was, and that it proved hopkins was the best if Bernard had won that fight. But instead all his fans have to make up excuses for his failure. Now they are all saying it was a fluke. Funny thing that is about hopkins supporters.
We have all seen true Robberies in the ring. But i am very sorry, this was not one of them. How could it be a robbery when everyone agrees it was a very close match. A robbery is when a fighter completely dominates every aspect of a fight then at the end he is announced as the loser AKA RJJ Olympics. So according to the obvious formula for what constitutes a robbery how could Hopkins fans say that it was one when they cant even agree about which round he did what in.
Besides everyone came into this fight already knowing who they wanted to win, so naturally in a close fight you saw what you wanted to see. That includes EVERYONE. Myself included. So would everyone just be honest and admit that this fight was closer then what a lot of people thought it was going to be. And we will have to wait for Round 2 between these two great warriors to fully decide, so until then show some respect. We have a new Middleweight Champ. Like it or not.
True! But,Judges have made some bad decisions in the past especially championship fights. Hopkins is just going to have to Knock him out and get over with. Judges are shady and blind...The Del la Hoya vs. Mosley II even Stevie Wonder can see that Mosley didn't win...
How do you account for the 116-112 score for EX. That's a more blatant form of highway robbery. No way did Nard deserve that. The most he could have got was a draw. He needed a knock down in the finial 3 rounds in order to keep his belts with a draw. That's how far Taylor was ahead. Judging has always been imperfect for either side and this case is no exception.
Hopkins fans are making too much out of round 10 and 11 when Nard had Jermain on the ropes. He wasn't even hurt that bad and in no time was he ever in great danger of going down. Watch those rounds closely again. In fact, JT fought back and they were quickly back on center ring on those occasions. Nard figured how to counter him and JT was open on his left side when jabbed, that’s all. That’s why JT looked vulnerable but he was tough and showed heart. He was stunned a couple of times but Nard couldn't knock him down even if JT was exhausted.
In the rematch, I'd doubt it very much if he would attack JT early on when they're both still fresh. That would be a big stupid gamble on Nard's part, and he’s smart enough to know it. What if he fails? I don't think he's gonna have enough gas in the tank for the remainder of the fight if JT manages to weather his assault. Then, what we'll have is the reverse of the first fight. Nard dominating, the first 4 with JT out-boxing him for the majority of the rounds with the possibility of taking him down. That would be the worst way to go when you have accomplished so much in the division.
What Nard's fans fail to see is that although he's a great future hall-of-famer and a phenom at 40, he's still 40 and can't sustain that type of aggression for the entire bout anymore. Gone is the brawler that he once was and now he has to rely on cunning and patience to eke out a win. That’s going to be hard against a young and talented natural middleweight who just gained a lot of experience and confidence by being the new undisputed middleweight king.
It's good to see people are still complaining about this? I've decided that all my whining and complaining about the bad call from the judges won't give Hopkins his 21st title defence in a row. I think everyone else should too. Jermain Taylor won that fight because the judges scored it that way. REAL B-Hop fans need to focus on how he is going to fight smarter and better against Jermain in the rematch. And as for the Taylor fans who are going to remain shoving this loss for B-Hop in our face, Jermain won. He's the champ. WHOOPEE! Let's see if he can hold onto it. Winning the belt and keeping the belt are two different things.
Everyone's bitchin' about the round 12 scoring of one of the judges. I think what's more disgraceful is the 116-112 for Hopkins which is totally retarded.
Yep, there's no way in hell that Hopkins won 8 rounds of that fight! I don't know what fight that judge was watching, and without that scorecard, it would have been a UD for Taylor.
Beautiful points about how hopkins was given a 116-112 score card. That was the biggest upset of the fight. It proves it easier to buy 1 judge off then 2
HOPKINS is Wiser then that he has been in the game for many years! everyone knows the one golden rule NEVER LEAVE IT IN THE HANDS OF THE JUDGES! hopkins clearly is the one to blame he should have threw some punches those first 6 rounds.

How can that one judge give Taylor round 12?
How can that one judge give Hopkins a 116-112 score? That's 8 round for Hopkins and 4 rounds for Taylor. That score raises more questions than any other aspect of the fight.

I have watched the fight 4 times and have come to 7-5 in favor of Hopkins, but that's too bad. He lost, so he has to deal with it. Too many people are making excuses, they'll have a rematch and everything will be settled then.[/QUOTE
The rematch is iffy at best. Hopkins bDay is Jan 15. Taylor says he will be ready by december but mandalay bay said their filled until Feb. Doesnt seem like much except for the fact that the rematch clause states that the next fight will take place at mandalay bay. So unless they bounce someone else from their scheduled time slot this fight might not happen. If it doesnt, Hopkins needs to go fight my Boy RJJ. I would love to see this fight. RJJ is one of the best and so is B-Hop. Either way it would be a rematch against the guy that beat him.

Like it or not, Hopkins lost this fight because of himself not the judges | BoxingScene Community
