My car was in the shop so I had to wait for a ride to my brothers house to watch the Hopkins/Taylor fight. Anyway I missed the first bout by Vernon Forest. I heard it was a second round KO but how did Forest look? Was he in shape, was he sharp :boxing: ? Can someone who saw the fight give me some insite on how he did?
How? Its easy really, based on this: ring generalship, clean punches, effective aggressiveness and good defense. Vernon showed all of that, a hell of alot more than mayo did, since all mayo was showing was the usualy thuggery, bullying, and all around bad behavior. When I score a fight, I give pt's for those things listed above..not for flinging your opponet around the ring, making extremely ugly faces and showing ones ass.
yup Vernon is awezome aswell! Can't wait fo him to take a betta comp.
I cant wait on that either..shut up some people that keep bitching cause his opponet's record was only 17-0
He looked ok, but it was against someone he totally outclassed. But he did what he was expected too and got the guy outta there. Two years is a long time to be off so he needed a fight to get his rust off.
He will be back better than ever i think. At least I hope so. He's one of the really good guys in the sport and there needs to be more like him.
Karma for you, well put Ive been a fan of Forrest and agree that we need fighters like him. He has tons of skill and got a raw deal of a fight (Mayorga 2) that he should have won. After 3 surgeries and 2 years removed from the game I think Vernon will be back strong and come with force. The layoff was the best thing for him, got his mind back on track. He was pretty upset with the outcome of that fight. As he should have been.

I liked what Forrest had to say after the fight too, he said he'd step it up a bit against his next opponent, then a bit more for the opponent after that, and then he'd fight whoever. He also talked about trying to go back down to 147. I think he'll be a force at either division.
What weight did Vernon fight at last night?

Remember Trinidad? He looked fantastic against Mayorga, then got his ass beat against a good opponent.
I didn't see the PPV (as I lack cable/satellite TV), but you can't judge a fighter's quality when he fights a bum. Wait and see, before you guys jump on a bandwagon.
Uh, too late, I've been on the forrest band wagon for yrs, and will stay there. Yes, the guy he fought was levels beneath him, but he was just shaking off that ring rust. He still looked sharp!
Thanks for the update everyone. I guess I'll have to wait to see him in another bout. Who ever heard of putting a big name like Vernon Forest as the first undercard bout of the evening. :(
Forrest said he actually didn't mind being the first on the undercard. He said he wants a couple of more tuneups to get the rust off and then he told Merchant he will fight whoever the people want.

i like Vernon betta than Ouma! Vernon's a good fighta and I think his comeback will benefit him mo than Vargas' comeback. In otha werds, Vernon will surpass Vargas (anotha fighta who came back afta a back injury and 2 devastating losses) in my opinion .
They listed his opponent as 17-1-0 (15 KO's)
Vernon looked awsome, he was sharp and I think the layoff was the best thing for him. If he cotinues to train hard he should be great like he was before.
Exactly..I just watched it and that was the first thing that stood out (somebody having said he was 9-0 when he was actually 17-0). He looked great and slightly weird with no hair  but I love him all the same. I hope he goes back to welter wt. but if not within the next yr. or so I hope he takes on Winky.
Good to see Forest back...maybe he should fight Cory Spinks at 154.
I think that would be an interesting fight . A fight that Vernon would win . But i guess he needs a few more tune up fights .
Setting aside the performance for a second...
Vernon needs to grow a little hair, sorry Vern-most black guys can pull the bald shit off with no problem but you look like an alien...if he is going to be world champ again he is going to have to grow a little fuzz, it is that simple.
you can't accurately judge Vernon's performance vs. a guy who was that awful, everyone thought Tyson was back after he beat up on the Black Whino but Ettienne was horrible.....let's see Vernon vs. somebody with a pulse 1st, then assess his performance, last night was below sparring, it was more like getting paid for heavy-bag work
His opponents record was like 9-1.

Haha. Thanks for the sarcasm Scap. Before you mentioned "fight" I didn't know if you were talking about Vernon Forrest or Forrest Gump. Run Forrest Run!! :p
Gotta spice things up once in a while ya know...
