July 14, 2005 - Reliable sources have informed Boxingtalk.com that ESPN will pick up The Contender's second season, however, before season two begins, Boxingtalk can also be the first to inform you that a special broadcast of Thursday Night Fights will take place on September 1. The card, which it appears will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be littered with contender stars. The televised seven round bouts are looking like Alfonso Gomez-Peter Manfredo III and Ishe Smith-Jesse Brinkley. At first the Contender brass were looking to stage a Mora-Manfredo rematch with Gomez taking on Jeff Fraza, but for reasons unbeknownst to us, Mora, the contender champion, has been removed from the card. Boxingtalk.com will continue to keep you updated
I wouldnt say they arent going anywhere. I can see Ishe definetly being a real contender in years to come. He already beat David Estrada as easily as Shane Mosely did. Sergio Mora may need to develop a little more but he can be a decent fighter. I dont see the others doing much. Gomez might be able to do a little better in a smaller weight class though.
I wasnt implying by their skills they wouldnt go anywhere but rather that they are locked into a promotional contract with NBC and as you have probably noticed are stuck fighting in fights against other Contender fighters.
Also Bonsante reached his peak way before the show and had one decent outing in 2003 I believe.
Some of the fighters brought credibility and Bonsante was one of them. But the guy just flat out sucks now.
ahmed was the shit, cockiest guy ever with decent skills
ishe was the best
bosante was a fucking loser father (worked @ K-Mart) and was a shit boxer
juan was a pussy and should of got beat down if Tarick wasnt inactive for a couple years. He was touted to be a good boxer, but in the ring he was nothing.
mora punched like a feather, he's a speedy bugger, but he has no endurance and i dont think he could hurt anybody judging by his knockout percentage. (4 KO's in 12 fights or soemthing).
johnathon got beat down...
manfredo had some skills and a good punch but i dont think he had that much endurance.
gomez is a gatti-type puncher
brinkley was an average fighter, a journeyman at best
joey gilbert...what can i say about this guy...he had alot of heart but made excuses, and was a dodger. he was a very classy guy though.
thats fucked what u saying About Bosante man. At least hes trying his best, what about you ? whats your record like?
Who was it on this site that exposed that show? They lied about one of the fighters' records....and someone did some research.
that was juan de la rosa, who never lost on the show but left because of injury....
they said his record on the show was 12-0-0(11 KO)
in reality he is 3-0 or something

I hope they produce it right and dont piss poor it with cheap production. It better hold the same quality or it will be turded down the drain.
The whole show is a waste, the fighters are never going to anywhere and pissed their career down the drain. For the most part, they are stuck fighting each other for a year or two as now they contractually obligated to fight as NBC or whoever as there promoter. The only fighter on that show to take a step forward was Kaddour.
You can bet if this happend ESPN will be hyping the hell out of it for weeks like they did with the PPV...along with Teddy and Joe's claims that they are not in the advertising business, or whatever. ESPN's been pissing me off lately, and the addition of a reality show to their lineup doesn't get me too excited. Keep in mind that all reality shows are in some ways fixed, no matter what anyone tries to tell you. They influence events to get desirable results, and that's the last thing boxing needs.
More rounds, 10 rds is ok, 12rds for the finals. Just show the hi-lights.
Less of the crying, emotional outbursts, intrigues etc.
Is that too much to ask? Maybe ESPN will do it better.
ahmed was an asshole, a prick, and a moron.
ishe was a fight dodger and a wuss.
bosante was a crybaby, a liar (he said he could take a punch when he really couldnt), and a fight dodger.
juan was a quitter, nuff said.
and sergio was an arrogant, feather-fisted, liar.
on the good side:
jonathon had a good chin and a lot of heart.
manfredo had great skill, speed, a good chin, and a lot of heart.
alfonso gomez was a carbon copy of julio cesar chavez, but not didnt really pack chavez's power.
brinkly sounded like a girl, but he had good power, a solid chin, and plenty of heart and stamina.
the season was good but some of the fighters sucked. i hope the 2nd season will be better.
Ishe is definately by far the best fighter. If the fights were normal length, he'd have dominated. Look at how badly he beat dumbass Bonsante, when there was no editing.
Straight up bitch slapped #1 Daddy.
Great news to me and it should be great news to boxing fans in general. This show broadcasted on ESPN can bring in new fans to boxing due to the drama involved. I think they should do the heavyweight division though since the world seems to love the heavies to much. As far as the fights from the contenders from the first season, I want to see the Brinkley/Ishe fight the most. Gomez should be fighting Mora not Manfredo.
thier are no good heavyweight contenders though. i think they should do welterweight or jr welterwwight. those divisions seem to have the most talent
apparently not or they wouldnt have lost. And ishe lost twice.
FYI...Fraza never lost on the show and Ishe lost once by split decision in his whole career which just so happened to be on the show.
