How did we guys? I was just watching Hopkins beyond the glory and it made me again think about Bernard killing Tito and then it was supposed to be Hopkins moving up to 168 and Roy moving down to 168. Why didnt we make sure this fight happened?
How could Bernard be so dumb to think he deserved more money then Roy who already beat him and had a bigger name? How come the stupid promoters couldnt get together? How come HBO didnt put up a bigger push? How come the fans didnt put up a bigger push?
Do you realize what we missed? This couldve been one of the truly biggest fights in history. Hopkins was a straight up killer then and was the meanest man on the planet. Roy was unstoppable and was one of the cockiest fighters of all time. Both were very close to there primes and both were All Time greats who couldve done well in any era.
Very rearly is it possible to get that kind of situation together. It happends maybe once every generation and we let it slip away. It wouldve been the perfect fight if it happened immediatly after Tito. Do you realize how good X and Roy were? and not to mention that they hated eachother and it wouldve been the greatest trash talking and press confernce of all time. The Perfect Fight
Do you think he would have fought Roy like he fought Holmes?
I want to see it if thats the case but I just cant see Nard doing that, he never wanted to fight Roy again style wise it was not his kind of fight.
I think you are overduing what happened in there first fight. You act like Roy dominated him. He won like 8 rounds to 4 but all of them were close but Roy was just more defined then. Hop handnt been out of jail too long and didnt know all that much. I still to this day think it was Roy's toughest fight up until he lost. add to that the fact that Hopkins wouldve been much better the second time and he couldve won.
I think you still had to favor Roy because he also improved and was much bigger.
Actually I do think that Hopkins wouldve fought Roy the same way as Holmes. Why wouldnt he? Thats the only chance he has. He fought all his fights that way until Tito
Im actully happy it didnt happen. A loss for one of them would suck big time. It was too early for RJJ too lose and Hopkins had his number of defence going. Im happy to have witnessed B-hop beaten a record then beating rjj. And I think that's what those two really thought about. Not the cash but none of their egos wanted to ruin their carrers.
No matter what you think of Hopkins, it was entirely his fault this fight didn't come off. Roy said 60/40 split, having beaten Hopkins already, but Hopkins didn't sign when it came down to it. I'm a fan of both, but Hopkins prevented this one from happening.
I dont know man. X was a killer at that time. He was 10x better then he is now. He was much faster, stronger, and rougher. I was watching his fight with Holmes before the Tito fight and he was just a killer. That guy wouldve gave Roy alot of problems and he wouldve really wanted it because of the first lost

No way dude. This isnt the Hopkins now. The Hopkins that fought Tito, Keith Holmes, and Echols was not boreing. It wouldve been exciting and you know Roy wouldve tried to show off
Uh yeah it is the hopkins now, you refer to his fights with Echols and Holmes and even Tito as the Hopkins of now??? When he fought Holmes and Echols he was the junkyard dog!
The Hopkins of now is a boxer, counter buncher/chess player and no one has ever beaten Roy like that. We already saw them fight once and Nard was content on being out quicked from the outside, I cant imagine him trying to go after Roy like Glenn Johnson did.
Boring fight that we would have overpaid for bigtime!
Two counter pucnhers that never get hit fighting one another...sounds like a barnburner!
it would be the same result

DLT do you realize that this fight would have been a gigantic borefest, turst me for the $60 bucks we would have paid it would have been overhyped shit.

How many perfect fights have we NOT seen happen b/c of this little thing or that.
