Yes, he is Latino. Ray Oliveira is Cape Verdian. They are a mix between African and Portuguese. I used to live in a very Cape Verdian community so I know the deal. Some consider themselves black but a lot of the times they dont consider themselves black. They just consider themselves Cape Verdian, not black or latino.

If what you're suggesting is true, then every non-white fighter that Augustus has fought, he would have shown mercy to when confronted with a similar situation as in the Oliviera fight. Also, every white fighter that he has ever fought, he would have not shown mercy to. Extending your argument further, this would also be true for most non-white fighters: black fighters would almost always show mercy to black fighters, latinos to latinos, etc. but not to white fighters. Clearly, this is not true. When a fighter sees the opportunity to win or KO or whatever, no matter who the opponent is, they usually go for it. For example, Mike Tyson tried to knock everybody's head off, didn't matter what ethnicity.

Im pretty sure he did that out of honor he knew he wouldnt of been able to continue anyway he knew he was going to win so why would he of made it worse not all of us think "well since hes white i should beat the shit out of him"

The thing is, boxing thrives in the ghetto. Meaning a little more than 75% of them would do that to a white guy. Listen carefully, the best example is a guy like me going to a fight at an all black club or bar, where im the only person in the building that isn't black. everyone there knows the majority of white fighters are weak, and the black fighter im against knows it himself, so he makes a decision to come at me early with everything he has regardless of whether or not he's a puncher, my nuts are gonna get tested early just because of my skin color.because many white guys have no chin whatsoever and the fight going to the second round with a white person would mean he is not champion material, to the crowd, his corner, and his family and friends.so they try to get the honkey out of there in the first round. among the reasons they perceive us white fighters to be lesser is because 1. we cut easier 2. most of us arent from the hood so we're considered soft in the middle and 3. the past history of slavery and all that bullshit i wish never happened. not to mention theres never been a serious black presidential candidate and we're just coming off huge racism in america, back in the day all those old black dudes remember the colored fountains and all that shit. so of course tehre will be hatred towards us white fighters now, and likely a long time to come.because we symbolize to most of them 'the man getting over on you' or something dumb like that.
