Vitali Klitschko Expected To Fight Calvin Brock Next E-mail this to a friend Printable version
By Rick Reeno
It was reported by Baltimore Sun staff writer Lem Satterfield that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is expected to finalize a contract to face undefeated heavyweight prospect Calvin Brock in September. The bout will be held in Atlantic City and televised by HBO.
The decision by Klitschko has shocked number one contender Hasim Rahman, who faces Monte Barret in a WBC elimination bout on a Don King promoted pay per view on August 13. WBC president Jose Sulaiman is expected to hold a vote with the board of govenors to make a decision as to the status of the WBC heavyweight title. If the board votes for Klitschko to face the winner of Barrett-Rahman, he would be stripped of the title if he went forward with a potential bout with Brock.
"I believe that from the beginning I made it clear to the WBC which title I was going after. I was ranked No. 1 by the WBO, the IBF and the WBA, and and I chose to go after Vitali Klitschko. I expect to receive their full support, but I'm not fixated on Vitali Klitschko. I expect to crowned WBC champion with or without him." said Rahman to the paper.
OK, Klitschko fans - what happens if he gives up his belt? Is he a martyr, or do you lose respect for him for defying the organization he is champion of?
I really do, I think his time is up. There is a new era on the horizon. He is gonna get kayoed in his next fight, you heard it here first, i dont care who it is, he goes down
full of shit...
It's only a reach because Oleg Maskaev and Cal Brock are being considered as opponents for Quitali....I'd make Rock, Barrett, Toney, and/or Brewster odds-on favorites to KO an ailing Quitali at this point (if in fact he's actually ailing and not faking)
It's a reach because he said "whoever his next opponent is, he will lose by KO..." I agree that VK should fight Rahman, period. Furthermore, I have no idea what the fucking point is of all this bullshit on the part of VK, changing potential opponents all the fucking time. However, a statement like the one Sweeney made is clearly motivated by nothing more than hate. In fact, if VK doesn't get his shit straight pretty soon I may be making hateful posts like that too lol
Ok this is my last post probably before I agree to disagree (though you bring up some good points)...
I would like to point out that the only two losses on Klitchkos record are against two heavyweight champs.
Now lets look at Rahmans losses. (well the ones that make my point)
Loss by 8th round KO to Maskaev. As far as I know he wasnt in the top 10, and I dont think is right now.
A Draw to Holyfield- who had just been recently beaten by Ruiz.
And a loss to Ruiz, who has been beaten by 2 former lightheavies or whatever they were...
Point is that Viatli doesnt have those kind of losses on his record. I dont think The Man should have those kind of losses on his record...
All valid points, and I totally understand you agreeing 2 disagree, I have more of a "half-glass'full" philosophy when comparing fighters, I like to compare their biggest wins rather than pick apart their losses, and Rock's biggest wins/best performances came against Lewis, Tua, and Sanders....Vitali's best W's are vs. an old Sanders and out-of-shapers Johnson & WIlliams....but I understand the flip-side where you would compare losses, it's a totally respectable way to analyze a fighter, I just look at things from a positive perspective
YOu're right, but I'm really not concerned about what boxing writers or so-called "experts" say about a figther....remember Courage Tsabalala???.....anyhow, Vitali got a paper belt and the Ring belt in one fell-swoop vs. a flabby Sanders, which is the main reason why the so-called "experts" claim that he's the champ, but IMO, since Lennox retired as champ, and Rock was the last man to beat him, I still feel Rock is the man to beat no matter who may have the title belts...I'm aware that I'm in the minority here, and that many people question Rock's credentials, but the fact remains that Vitali has neither beaten a reigning champion nor a universally-recognized top 10 contender his ENTIRE career, and Rock spent 7 months as the King of the World

That is all true but most people still do not believe he is The Champ. The majority of boxing writers say Vitali is The Champ. Most boxing figures say hes the champ, I want to fight him. I never hear anyone saying "I want to prove Im the best so Ill fight Rock"...

The rematch doesn't detract from the fact that Rock is he last man to defeat Lennox Lewis, Quitali fought bravely vs. Lennox (I was there at Staples and cheering for both guys, it was a great slug-fest) but he lost to Lennox as well, and frankly Vitali doesn't own a legit W vs. a top 10 heavyweight, while Rock has beaten Lennox and had been competing with tope heavyweights for nearly a decade now....Rock demolished Tua in the rematch (judged a draw), KO'd Corrie Sanders back when it meant something, and of course KO'd Lennox with 1 shot

Um he got beat by "the man" in the rematch so that point isnt right...
the fact that all heavyweights call out Vitali Klitchko tells you who the king is.

"To be the Man, you gotta beat the Man" and Hasim Rahman is the last person to have beaten "The Man" Lennox Lewis, which is why he can still, in a round-about way, claim to be the best in the world right now

So no matter who he fights next, he's getting KO'd?
That's reaching...

Vitali is a bum, just like his brother, he is buying time because he knows his time is limited, whether its brock, rahman, peter, brewster, whoever he loses his next fight by knockout
So no matter who he fights next, he's getting KO'd?
That's reaching...
Again, I am a Klitschko hater...
but what does Rahman have exactly that makes you people think he is on the same level as Vitali Klitschko?
"To be the Man, you gotta beat the Man" and Hasim Rahman is the last person to have beaten "The Man" Lennox Lewis, which is why he can still, in a round-about way, claim to be the best in the world right now
I'm in the same boat. I think Rahman easily wins if Vitali faces him, and I think the next guy with power that Vitali fights is gonna put his lights out just because Vitali's been out of the ring so long he probably doesn't remember how to fight
I cannot believe people that actually say such things are not being disingenuous. Haseem Rahman is a B- fighter at best. He got his one lucky punch against Lennox Lewis but outside of that what has he done? Well he beat Kali Meehan, the same Kali Meehan who was Ko'd in 32 seconds by Danny Williams and he lost to Ancient Holyfield, John Ruiz, and was brutally KO'd by Oleg Maskaev, a guy that was knocked out by Oliver McCall in like 26 seconds.
Personally I want Vitali to face the winner on the 24th. Enough of this waiting around bullshit. I am actually happy that Rahman is facing Barrett because Barrett has been ranked fairly high for quite sometime by the WBC and has constantly been overlooked. It was fucked up that they allowed Rahman to originally face Vitali when Barrett had been ranked high for so long.
Yeah but what if the mandatory is not able to fight on the 24th. Why should Vitali have to wait around. The fight between Barrett and Rahman was originally supposed to take place on July 23rd but then the asshole Don King switched it for three weeks later. If the fight did take place on the original date then you can make a case that they would have enough time to recover in order to fight Vitali on Sep 24th.
if u mean not able to fight like injured then vitali could face brock or the loser of the mandatory.
if u mean not able to fight like not prepared to train: thats just being a whiny bitch (just like rahman). a month is enough time to prepare.

IMO, i think vitali SHOULD fight the mandatory. but i also think he should face brock. brock is more a dangerous opponent than barrett or rahman. rahman's a bum and a one-punch wonder. barrett's got a lot of heart but little else. brock is hungry, dangerous, and he needs a challenge too. but when it comes down to it, i think vitali should take the mandatory first, THEN fight brock.
