Interview with ricardo lois, august 25 2003.
''I have a special message for somebody who ignored me. when this person was looking to move up into heavier weight classes and the experts asked him about fighting me, he said he did not know who i was. the person i am talking about is roy jones jr.''-Juan Carlos Gomez.
Jones ducked everyone that was either unknown or out of the country and wanted to make that "Roy Jones" money. The only fighter Jones did not fight who would have given him trouble was a prime Benn, that is it, but Benn had a questionable chin. It's easy to say Jones would get knocked out now, when back then it was almost unthinkable to even vision Jones hurt in a fight.
people in the boxing game/business appeared to express an interest.
Of course. Gomez, his promotional team, & a few others.
But.....Gomez (who I thought was a fantastic crusierweight) did not carry the name value for Roy to make decent enough $$$$ against.
Hardcore fans would have found the bout intriguing.....but that would be the extent of it.
I bashed Roy during his Glenn Kelly days, but I never thought he was a pussy for not talking about fighting Gomez.
he was WBC cruiserweight champion from 1998-2001. moved up to heavyweight in 2002, has beaten sinan samil sam, who knocked out danny williams, he's a southpaw, he's also been called one of the most naturally gifted boxers in the world. he beat wlad klitschko in the amatures.
I don't recall Gomez ever facing Wlad in the amateurs. Maybe you can post an article that shows this as fact.
NOBODY expressed any interest in a Gomez-Roy Jones fight, with the exception of Gomez & maybe his immediate family.
You can't go & make assertions & threads like this. It's bullshit.

Got admit, that was quite funny though. No offense to Gomez but I had never heard of him until this thread either.
