Just look at the champs right now.
Vitali-Has more injuries then an entire NFL team.
Byrd-Slick, defensive boxer but people want to see the big guys throw bombs. Only us true boxing fans can enjoy Byrd's style.
Ruiz-Worse champ ever. nothing more I can say about this chump.
The division is in shambles b/c no one wants to fight Byrd or Ruiz and you'll be hard pressed to find a time this year when Vitali wasn't hurt.
I was actually pulling for Toney to become a champ and rid us all of having to watch Ruiz again. He would have generated some interest as the champ and definitely would have put some pressure on the current belt holders.
I hope some of the young guns like Peter or an old but capable Tua can shake up this division cause if they can't then we'll be hurting for awhile.
I may sound like a broken record(records were before cassettes, cds, ipods :p ), but I think the problem with the heavyweight division is, the current belt-holders do not fight frequent enough to elicit interest from any boxing fans. The current crop of heavyweight champs(Vitali,Ruiz,Byrd,Brewster) fight an average of 1-2 times per year.
To me, that's not enough times for me to get excited about a certain fighter because you seldom see him fight. Surely, Chris Byrd could've gotten a fight or two since his last fight in November. If any of the current heavies were fighting 3-4 times a year, there would be genuine interest in these guys because you would get to see your fighter every 3-4 months.
I don't know if these guys are lazy or it's just that hard to negotiate heavyweight title fights. But just imagine for one moment, if Vitali fought 3-4 in 2005 he would be very well-liked by boxing fans and known by the general sporting fan public.
Thats my 2 cents.
byrd is just as much to blame as anyone else... byrd hasnt fough since NOV 04... he is currently the most INACTIVCE champion... why hasnt he defended his title this year or is scheduled to defend his title? byrd has had no injuries, no excuses.... also byrd will gladly give title shots to undeserving guys like fres, golota, mccline but then uses the "underserving" excuse not to fight wlad...
Maybe I shouldn't have called it boring, how about uneventful
With Vitali's injuries and the styles of Byrd and Ruiz it's putting a hurt on the division.
hopefully Brewster, toney, and maybe even peter will help that.
the excitement comes, from these contenders all trying, beleiveing they can dethrone the champs. and not just in there for a payday

If all the hype and excitement isn't coming from one of the champs something is wrong. It won't go anywhere until we get a champ who is exciting and willing to fight the top contenders. It's pretty sad when the only HW PPV fight we've had recenty is an over-the-hill Tyson against a nobody like McBride.

The only arguement I have for your thread would be a possible big time comeback from Wlad.......more defenses by Brewster, and a Major title shot for Peter.
Basically the only three HW's I give any damn credit to.
I seriously doubt Toney is going to fight at Heavy much anymore, after people trashed his LEGITIMATE victory over Ruiz.
Then again, stranger things have happened.
Ya Brewtser can step up and do some major damage there and if only Wlad could grow even a decent chin he would be the #1 guy

The Div isn't boring, we just don't have a Top Dog right now, it's fun watching these guys all out to prove they are the best. I like it better than having one guy Like LL who no one had a chance at beating, only hoping to land a lucky punch. These HW's have been fighting their hearts out.

Agreed the heavyweight division has been poop the last few years. its a shame too cuz the talent in the division isn't terrible its just that none of the belt holders wanna fight eachother. if they did we wouldn't have to deal with Ruiz and all his gayness
