I wasnt very impressed with his fight against Sykes. He was getting jabbed almost everytime Sykes threw it. His own jab was pretty sloppy itself. I gotta see this guy fight a top ten opponent before I decide if he has what it takes. He's only 24, so he doesnt need to be in a rush anyway.
It’s hard to say whether Sam Peter will ever amount to anything in the hw division. In the rematch against James Toney, Peter looked sharp, was well conditioned, and looked like he was improving. However, after a long layoff, he looked like him old self and was lucky to escape the knockout by a determined Jameel Mccline....
So, what does this tell us about Sam Peter? It tells us the ‘verdict is still out’ on him and we will need to see how he does any Maskaev….
Don't think ive seen him win yet against a prime, hungry fighter. His biggest wins are against a 38 year old Toney and a 37 year old McCline. He doesn't seem to be dominating the division like some people are saying putting him right below Wlad in the rankings and all.
Peter will club his way to being one of the better heavyweights fighting today, but thats about it. He is a very, very flawed fighter and an over rated puncher. But with the sad state of heavyweights we have today, what skill Peter has is enough to beat most.
Sam will have to face Wlad again if he wants to be a true champ. And Wlad will crush him again if that happens.
With Peter's power, anything is possible...
On Paper Wlad wins 10 out 10, but you can never know what happens in the ring.
Hey, as an example, look at McCline Vs. Valuev, Vitali Vs Byrd, etc, etc, etc

Sam Peter will be HW champ sooner than you think. In his workouts now all he's doing is jabbing and defense..As Greg Leon would say, "you heard it here first. He will be a HW champ by one of the MAJOR sanctioning bodies before you know it..."
I voted for a decent contender.
I don't think he is ready for any of the real, accomplished heavyweights out there. He does seem to have a lot of power, but is rough around the edges. Big,wild punches & ugly jab IMO. But he is still young, those problems can be fixed.
I would like to see him fight a top ten opponent,in about a year and see where he is at then. :boxing:
Haha yeah my bad, and yes to that fight I would have liked to see it. I would take Toney though over Tua just because of his defense but who really knows Tua hit hard as hell.. I think John Ruiz knows this first hand
Is that the great Razor Rudduck in your avatar. He was a legend. On the peter question he needs to start fighting the likes of kirk johnson. SOmeone in the top ten heavyweights who most likely will not be able to handle his power and is very out of shape. By wearing johnson down with his power in a few rounds he will look a true contender and it will look like an impressive win. Sort of like klitschko vs johnson. Johnson was out of shape and klitschko wore him down and looked like a tremendous heavyweight in the eyes of some. He will be the heavyweight champion one day that is for sure. Sam peter that is i only hope the whale doesnt hold a title that would be the ultimate embarasment.Johnson might really train hard for this fight though knowing that a win over the hyped up samuel peter could jumpstart his career. Im not sure whether johnson was out of shape for his other fights honestly I couldnt care all that i know is that he lived up to his knickname in the klitschko fight.
