From boxingtalk:
July 05, 2005 - Winning a tune up fight in the first round has apparently cost junior welterweight contender Lovemore N'dou the chance to become Ricky Hatton's mandatory challenger. With N'dou out of the picture, Ben Rabah will now face Arturo Morua. Following Ricky Hatton's win over Kostya Tszyu nobody in boxing wants to see Hatton in with any more B level fighters, evidently the IBF doesn't feel the same way. Remember where you heard it first! (12:00 AM)
If Hatton signs on to fight the winner of this fight he will be taking the coward's way out. At the very least, our fellow members that bash Hopkins for taking on mandatories instead of tougher challenges yet praise Hatton's every move will have to change their attitudes one way or another pretty quickly.
I can see Hatton getting A LOT of stick on here if he takes the Maussa fight!
I can't see Hatton vs Maussa lasting more than a round! I think it would be a lower level fight than a tune up against Lovemore Ndou and a bit of a pointless exercise, but at least Hatton could add the WBA strap to his name.
Well the way I see it, Hatton's just fought Kostya Tszyu A LIGHT-WELTERWEIGHT LEGEND! And it was one HARD TOUGH fight... So I think it would be a little unfair to really Slate Ricky Hatton for taking any easy inbetween fight (against Maussa).
There are lots of other fighters out there that are allowed to take an easy inbetween fight, but I get the feeling people won't see it as ok if Hatton does it.
:dunno: I dunno why a lot of people seem so against Hatton?...
Well, if he takes a mandatory next and then takes on another contender in a timely manner, say all within one year, than I personally will have no issues with him.
Thing is that you have to admit that it took Hatton a bit of a long time to get this far. At least people were hyping him up forever before he finally took a title fight, so that negative press that built up before is still going to linger. People still don't trust that him and Warren will make the right fights now. We'll see what happens.
To be honest with you Bombardier... I wouldn't read to much into the crap they post up on boxingtalk.
That site just blatently makes up boxing news half the time to try and get a rise out of people... :nono: And they're particulary anti-Hatton because the whole of boxingtalk staff called the Tszyu vs Hatton a "COMPLETE MISSMATCH" before it happened, and they all predicted Tszyu 2nd round KO, Tszyu 1st round KO, and so on.
Because Hatton made a few of them look a little silly, they posted a load of articles after, calling Hatton a cheat etc etc...
I won't go to that website anymore, because the boxing knowledge on there is embarrasingly poor.
Agreed about boxingtalk, though I have to say that I thought that this thread would stir up a bit more debate. I deliberately tried to make the tone confrontational. Oh well, maybe the summer heat is making everyone too lazy to fight :boxing: .
For the record, I can see Hatton getting another fight in before a date with Floyd, but he should be careful not to make it too much of an easy night. If Maussa's game, hell, he should go and grab the title, though if Floyd-Cotto's out he might have some competition.
hmmm FW dont think like that mate anymore than D.K. does.
Im sure ricky would love to put a world of hurt on Witter but FW wont be keen he is also singed to FW's biggest rival in Mick Hennessey. Its a bit like an arum and king fighter going at it. Doesnt happen too often.
Witter needs to get a belt to force his way into the reckoning.
there are other reaosns witter is viale opponent, the fact he is a odious little shit who has been hanging onto hatotns coattails for years is just one of them
warrne wouldnt give witer a shot anyway they had a very acrimonious split a few years back and to be honest why should he?
witter should worry botu his own career ans stop belittling RH's victory over KT.
blokes a dick.
That's even more of a reason to give him a shot, just to shut his mouth and prove that he's all talk.

As I recall, Witter beat N'dou, so how does N'dou get a shot at Hatton and not Witter? Could it be that Hatton is ducking Witter? Hmmm....quite possibly. As for Cotto and Floyd, according to Arum, he not going allow Cotto to fight Floyd, because he knows that Cotto will be embarrassed.
You know, I hear that in all those other sports, they have these crazy systems where they rank the competitors according to their records and then determine champions by having those that achieved higher ranks play one another in elimination series until a winner and undisputed champion is crowned. I know, sounds insane, right?

thats my point if hatton has no choice its not his fault.
the ibf suck if they enforce this as a mandatory.
ndou would be acceptable as a soft defence.
if they impose it id go beat the shit out of maussa and tell em to stuff their belt.
and bomb! of course im kind to hopkins, he is one of the best thinking fighters ever to grace the square circle.
but for the record you never hear me bad mouth hopkins. :D ;) :boxing:
haha, no I remember you being pretty kind to him, especially for a Englishman :D .
Kostya was fine with letting his titles drop when bullshit mandatories came up so hopefully Hatton will do the same. Unfortunately since he has the one title he might be tempted to hold onto it, and I'm sure Warren will be right behind him, ready to take the easy payday.
If Hatton doesn't want to take on Floyd right away, which is fine, maybe at this point he should go after Maussa. I know that I didn't agree with this matchup before, but with the IBF playing its bullshit games there really are no other options. Have Floyd fight Cotto around the same time and then get the winners to face off...hopefully the bagfulls of cash this type of tournament would bring in will make the fighters forget about the games played by the alphabet groups.
If they don't fight their mandatories don't they lose their belts? If that is the case Hopkins has three different sanctioning bodies who could present him with a mandatory at any given time. Hatton only has one then he can fight whoever he wants. Then we can start to judge him as fighter or a runner...or should I say a wrestler or a runner.
NOT ACCEPTABLE.
but why are the IOBF sanctioning this as an box off to challenge? that sucks.
man, hatton doesnt have to take on floyd in his next fight, that is granted, and an easier nights work in Nov maybe the tonic but these two ??
its pathetic.
