Warren: Hatton vs Maussa?
Promoter Frank Warren said today that a unification fight between IBF 140lb champ Ricky Hatton and WBA champ Carlos Maussa is "an option." Warren acknowledged a rematch clause between Maussa and dethroned champ Vivian Harris, but asked "Who is going to want to watch that rubbish again and which TV company is going to pay for it?" Warren also lashed out at Harris, whom he says rejected a $750,000 offer to fight Hatton. "Harris should have taken the money because now he will have to fight for peanuts," said Warren. "But I knew he was an idiot because after he turned down the fight with Hatton he took on Oktay Urkal for a fraction of the money we were offering him. I've never seen a champion look so bad in the ring. He was unfit and badly out of shape, I don't know what his trainer Manny Steward had been doing with him in the gym."

It'll be entertaining for as long as it lasts no matter who Maussa fights. Awkward fighters like Maussa while spaz's are always more difficult to fight than you think they will be.
Billy Graham laughed at the idea that Hatton might fight Maussa - he said 'I don't think people would have it, would they?'
I don't think Hatton's going to want to fight him either - he's looking to increase his respect - and beating Maussa does nothing for that
If Hatton had agree terms with Mayweather for late 2005, then decided to take Maussa as a warm up before i'd be happy. There's no harm in him fighting someone on Maussa level if he's already agreed to fight a decent opponent very soon after. It would be like a puplic sparring session.
I would consider it a legit way of winning it!
Granted... I can't see a Hatton vs Maussa fight lasting more than 1 or 2 rounds, but Hatton would have beaten the WBA champion, and taken his belt.
Just because the WBA champion happens to be useless... If Hatton had blasted Vivian Harris out of there in 1 or 2 rounds what's the difference?
I see your point, but the Maussa is terrible, he's effective but as raw as they come.
I suppose he'd have beaten the champ to win the belt, it wouldnt be like someone had gifted it to him. Harris had won a few decent fights so i suppose Maussa beat the man(only in WBA terms) so he's now the man.
I think that if any good boxer went into the ring with the same respect that most of you have for Maussa, Maussa would win. The fact is that Maussa started boxing in columbia, and was a three time amature champion. His only real beating came at the hands of Miguel Cotto, a TKO in the eigth. The way he boxes does not look pretty, but he fights good that way. I think that if Harris finally screws his head to his shoulders he would prabobly beat Maussa, but KHTFO?? nah.
Personally I think Mayweather should come to England and fight in London ie Netural Ground
Mayweather cannot sell tickets that is a fact
You have lost your mind if you think London is neutral grounds.

How do you think Harris is going to fight Maussa if a rematch happens?? he tried to rush him last time and got beat, i doubt someone with that kind of ego will be happy without a KO against a bum.
IMO he'll need to put it all on the line and try to KO him to gain some respect back.
Harris obviously has superior skills than maussa. I think he won't take any chances in the rematch. He will box maussa instead of trying so desperately to go for the KO.
On another note, Hatton should not fight Maussa. Hatton should continue fighting top caliber fighters instead of going back to the bums that he's been facing.

I'm not sure if its ego so much that he's a headcase. What I mean is that his outbursts at the presser and his performance against Maussa all seemed to me that he was desperate to be accepted in the elite class of 140 fighters. I mean he was desperate the way a kid is desperate for attention...little to do with ego. I mean, look at him after the fight, dude needs to get his head straight fast. If he does, than you might see a whole new fighter.
Vivian Harris will exert his rematch clause and defeat maussa, I believe.

The problem is that if he picks Maussa we all know that it will be because he's after some cheap hardware, and the "tune-up" excuse won't fly. He's better off going with a titleless nobody because at least then it would be more plausible.
I really dont want the fight to happen but it would be OK if he showed Harris how to do it properly. Just because i dont like Harris and Hatton would make the insult of defeat by maussa even worst by blasting him out.
If Hatton won the WBA title from Maussa i wouldnt consider it a legit way of winning it, he'd have to defend it against Mayweather or Cotto for me to consider him the real WBA champ.
But i dont even know why i'm saying this, i'll be pissed off if he fights anyone other than Mayweather, i think thats a fight that can be made if Mayweathers super sized ego doesnt demand too much money.
^You blame him for going after an easy title? Fighting Maussa is the smart move, because beating Maussa will give him 2 major titles to floyd's one, giving him the lionshare of the purse for the fight with mayweather when it happens. You people forget too easily that boxing is all about the money, not how much respect you get on internet forums for taking the hardest possible fights.
I dont want to see Hatton fight him, i suppose its an extra belt but Mayweathers the only person i want Hatton to fight at the moment. If the could fit Maussa in as a warm up as part of Hatton's training(thats how bad he is) for the Mayweather then i'd be OK with it.

sneaky british tactic everybody u must be talking about german fighters. Besides it is about money, Mayweather cannot sell tickets this is a business not amateur boxing
if hatton even thinks of fighting maussa, many will lose respect for him......
although i did predict that he would continue fighting lower tier fighters after his tszyu fluke.....
i just hope he doesn't do this.......and everyone in the U.S would lose respect for him too...
Sounds like most of you dont have any respect for him anyway!
Out of interest, how was the KT fight a fluke?
hatton is not with showtime
he is contractually free from any tv network
he has just been with showtime as warren has links with them but he is free to go with hbo should they decide they want cotto/mayweather etc
