So he beat Gatti. So what? He was expected to do it. He has been going on and on about how he would beat a "C+ fighter", and now he did it. Except it took him six rounds of landing flush shots at will to finally take down that "C+ fighter".
What won't change after this fight is Mayweather's attitude. He's the same cocky SOB who'll be saying the same things about Hatton if they fight. Or Cotto. Or whomever.
And in all likelihood, he'll beat those guys. Probably with ease. But will he ever build a fanabse like Gatti's? Will he ever transcend boxing and become a household celebrity like Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali? While I wouldn't bet against Mayweather in a boxing match, everything I have says he doesn't.
Mayweather claims he would be content to continue be the bad guy in boxing. For his sake I hope so, because that's all I see in his future.
People who try to differentiate Ali's trash talking with Mayweather are simply hypocrites. They hate Mayweather for trash talking, but praise Ali for trash talking.
Let's not talk about how big of a backstabbing douche Ali was to Joe Frazier.
...Oh yeah, he fucked Joe good didn't he? Smokin Joe helped him out and he basically spit in his face and crushed the guys faith in a fellow boxer. Frazier was the good guy IMO and Ali was the bad guy.
Im talkin the pre fight trash pbf was talkin, i dont care its over w/ just dont camplain and cry about how nobody likes u, ppl have more than enough reasons. but after the fight he should thank Gatti for given him his biggest bank of his career...
He did thank him for the opportunity.
What's so different about the shit Ali was saying to Joe Frazier and the shit Mayweather said to Gatti?
What Ali did to Frazier showed that he had no class or no respect for anyone. That was disgusting, you would think if it was a man who helped you when you needed help the most you would go into press conferences (or whatever the hell they did back then) and give him his respect and say that it will be two great champions in the ring and let the fight sell itself, but he didn't.....I still like Ali, though.

EXACTLY, GREATEST...
I remember watching the rumble in the jungle and the interview shit after the fight, he didn't give props to his opponent...he just went blabbing saying, "I'M STILL THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME....."
Come on, eventhough im not a fan De La Hoya has class, and Marciano was king of the world and was still respectful and classy guy...there are plenty of fighters out there you are great and dont talk trash or use it as an excuse...and the difference w/ Ali and Mayweather, Ali does it jokingly, Mayweather attacks ppl maliciously

Actually it's the opposite...
Mayweather showed class after..
Ali just said, "I SHOOK UP THE WORLD I SHOOK UP THE WORLD!"
well feel free to root for whoever you'd like, but I'll take a world-class fighter with an attitude problem over a classy prima donna any day of the week and twice on Sunday....the reason guys like Forrest, Klitschko, Ward, etc, don't talk trash, is becuase they're average fighters, not because they're "classy" but because they're mediocre, Floyd is king of the world so he should talk the biggest game to go along with his ability (remember that guy from the 60's and 70's, what was his name? Oh yeah ALI!)

well i dont really care for Ali cause iwasnt born when he fought but this lil spoiled brat i dont like. I dont really care about him so much to hate him, but does deserve a Bernard Hopkins on Tito beatdown
To be honest, i was rooting for Gatti. Now dont get me wrong, i known Floyd has murder skills, but so what. i wanted the underdog to win.
But damm! Floyd showed me skills and talent i havent seen. It was a joy to watch him perform his craft. I'll tell you its a lot better than to have to listen to him talk!
But anyways, He's a fucking asshole before the fights, and a humble Champ after.
Some of you people on this website take your hate for Mayweather to a personal level, like he ran over your pregnant wife and brutally raped your three year old daughter all on the same day..
This stuff is getting kind of ridiculous, it's one thing to just totally not like a fighter or athlete or whatever, but you people hate him so much that you try to bring him down even after he does something praise worthy.
what usually happens is a fighter like that earns more respect in defeat than they ever do winning.

Yeah but Ali didnt insult people as bad as Floyd did, he called him a bum, a C fighter and he said Gatti had plastic surgury in his face and he looked Asian. When Ali talked he did it in a funny way. Also Vitali is the best Heavyweight out there how can u say hes average, He can beat any fighter now and 10 years ago as well. I remember Oscar was one of the best in this era he didnt talk smack. Roy Jones probably the best fighter in our era he didnt talk smack, B-Hop doesnt insult people, Tito didnt, Chavez didnt Leonard didnt we can go on and on

...Yeah, all of the great fighters were major shit talkers. Guys like Frazier, Marciano, Arguello, Hagler, JCC, etc. etc. those guys talked tons of smack. NOT!!!
yeah but the thing is Mayweather would need to fight well liked fighters to get people to see him. Gatti fought bums and he filled the arena. Mayweather fought a bum in Bruselles and the American Airlines Arena in Miami had less people than a a game of the WNBA Sol. Yeah hes is the best out there but he wont be liked or remembered as a legend cause of his antics.
Also people are saying Floyd is the best in this era?? WTF? a few months ago Bernard was the bets of this era, a year ago Roy was the best of this era??? How long is an Era 6 months?
No boxing superstar in our time will ever become a sensation, DLH was that last guy and nobody on the horizon looks to be either.
Screw becoming a household name, let Mayweather collect his huge paydays and let Mayweather keep fighting the best and winning. Who gives a shit about becoming a household name, Boxing isnt even a household sport.
Mayweather is the best boxer this era has now and you should appreciate his skills and the career he has had so far. If Mayweather chose to retire right now he would still have the best resume out of majority of the boxers today. Mayweather has just entered his prime, he has potential to be the greatest.
true, who cares about household names, their getting paid millions while your not.
MD, you think it's funny that Gatti got beat up by someone with three times his talent? Gatti is the one who, in the end, goes home with the bigger paycheck. Gatti is the guy who could go to any bar in the country and there'd probably be at least someone in the house who'd buy him a drink. Mayweather would be lucky to not get his ass kicked if he walked into a bar alone, with no entourage, and ran his mouth.
In the game of boxing, Mayweather is a king. No one can dispute that. I bet he'll kick Hatton's ass too. In the game of life though, he's nothing special. He and Zudah are two peas in a pod. Money can buy a lot of things, but class isn't one of them. Give me a Lamon Brewster, Mickey Ward, Vernon Forrest, Vitali Klitschko or Chris Byrd anyday over a Tyson, Judah, Mayweather, or Toney.
