Tarver wearing Jones shoes

its kinda wierd but its prob just a coincidence

He has much respect for Jones. All the stuff in the other fight was purely hype...it was Tarver, who was a no name at the time, trying to make a name for himself...he did a good job of it. I think most of the fights you see out there where the two people are jawing back and forth are nothing but marketing ploys. Even the mayweather gatti war of words is motivated by money a little.

Who knows with Tarver. I thought it was funny to hear Roy trying to say TARVER RESPECTS ME SO MUCH and all.

I think he just wore it because he like the way it looked and it went with his trunks.

It was funny when one of the commentators asked Roy "what do you think about Tarver wearing your shoes?" and Roy answered by saying something like "of course Tarver would wear my shoes, the man admires me and tried to do everything that I've done, he followed and studied me my whole life." And then one of the commentators said something like "maybe the shoes are just that good" and then both Roy and the commentator laughed it off. I just found that funny.

Despite saying otherwise at times out of spite and wanting to hype a fight, Tarver is very fond of Jones and has a lot of respect for him as a fighter overall. And so he should. The more he respects Roy and recognizes his greatness, the better his victory over him is. I am under the same impression. I remember Tarver making that clear to Roy in the ring after their 2nd fight. Just like Jones with Hopkins and Toney, I think the respect is mutual.

I was at the fight and noticed Tarver wearing Roy Jones Air Jordan boxing shoes. I found it very odd. Then I saw the fight on the replay and heard Roy and Lampley talking about. As much tension as there is between Tarver and Jones, I would be curious to hear Antonio comment as to why he was wearing Jones boxing shoes during the fight.
