You can listen live via streaming audio from the Sports 56 WHBQ website. Roy will be plugging his DVD but we will also talk to him of course about his possible comeback and Johnson-Tarver II which is here in Memphis, where the interview is taking place (he will be here live in studio). I produce the show and I will take any questions you guys may have, and if they are good I will pass them on to the hosts to ask Roy.
Also, a couple of hours after the interview, we have our weekly boxing show, Inside the Ropes, that airs from 11 am-12 pm EST every Friday morning. It's sponsored by Prize Fight Promotions, who of course are promoting the Johnson-Tarver II fight. Brian Young, who runs Prize Fight with his brother, Russ, is a co-host on the show. This show airs every week, so go to www.sports56whbq.com and listen if you like boxing talk on the radio.
We are currently "efforting" to get Lamps or Larry Merchant on our station today or tomorrow; I will keep you guys posted if you want to listen.
Ask Lampley what was his favorite fight this year. I wonder if he'll say Castillo/Corrales, even though it was a Showtime fight.
People on maxboxing asked him and he said Castillo-Corrales was one and Morales-Barrera I was another..
Yeah, we ribbed him pretty good during the last segment when he was supposed to be on. We played clips from his Body Head Bangerz CD, of him saying "yeah yeah yeah yeah, everyone wants to know, what's next for you champ, well, every dog got its day (talking about the Tarver KO loss)"
Funny stuff.
Remember we still have the boxing show from 11 AM EST-NOON EST, and Jim Lampley WILL be on at 1:05 PM EST, so if you want to hear boxing talk go to www.sports56whbq.com during those times and click "listen now"...
NEVERMIND.
I just talked to one of the DVD people, and he says Roy missed his flight. Sheesh. He may call in later today...but I don't have my fingers crossed.
Thanks for all the questions guys, we will have Roy on in about an hour. Any last minute questions?

Tell him his fans are concerned about him, and only his health matters. Ask him if he will fight if he can't get joy out of it. There's no point if he can't.
absolutely. since his last KO losses people seem to forget all too easily how good he really was. even a raw bernard hopkins and a young james toney was easily more skillful than tarver and glencoffe. many people scoff at his resume but people seem to forget that virgil hill, montel griffin, juan gonzales (the man who brought dariuz's first loss and was rocked by jones) were solid fighters as well.
i think good questions to ask him are to give an insight of his training methods. how he was able to condition and cope with having brittle hands. what he learned during the glencoffe/tarver losses..and how he plans to overcome his loss in speed and power if he does come back.
LOL!! Can you ask Hatton why he doesnt come to America to fight?
actually hatton is fighting on U.S. soil on his next fight...diego will have his hands full.
Also, if it's possible, ask Roy how he would of dealt with Chris Eubank had he fought him at any time between 1990 and 1995 - what tactics would he use to beat him etc..
since he was so succesful in moving up in weight, ask him what he thinks are the maximum weight classes these guys can reach
mayweather
morales
corrales
and name any other good fighter you can think of who's moving up in weight lately
hmm

ask him what he thinks his career woulda been like if he had adopted a more conventional style, (like jabbing... etc etc) would it be better in the later stages of his career? would it have been worse in the early stages of his career?
I just got word that we WILL have Jim Lampley on tomorrow as well, at 1:05 PM EST. Go to www.sports56whbq.com to listen.
I won't have as much say for the Lampley interview as far as questions are concerned, but if you have any, shoot, and I'll see what I can do...
Can you also ask RJJ why he refused to fight the best in each division, and if he ever considered himself as more of a paper champ?
Thanks!
... LOL!... ;)
By no means am I saying that that's harsh, because it is the truth. But I don't think that question should be asked to Roy out of respect for his accomplishments as a businessman :p
I wouldn't have that question asked though martin mate, I think the question about who'd stand a chance of beating him is good enough (and the Benn/Eubank question) and it would be interesting to hear what he says to that..
I think there will have to be some creative wording for a question like that...
Who knows, he may give us the Heisman on any questions about ducking opponents, but we'll damn sure try to ask. If the hosts go into softball mode, I'll be very upset.
I'll post a full recap in this thread and I will have the audio recorded as well, but since it may be about 15-20 minutes, it will be a huge file. I will figure out a way to get it to people who really want it...
Thanks for the questions, JUYJUY, I will get them to the hosts...
