Russian-born boxer Kostya Tszyu has fired his trainer Johnny Lewis after losing his IBF light-welterweight crown to Britain's Ricky Hatton.
Tszyu, 35, who has held a version of the light-welterweight title for 10 years, suffered a shock defeat to Hatton after failing to answer the bell for the 12th and final round in their championship bout in Manchester on Sunday.
Tszyu's manager Matt Watt said the Sydney-based boxer had made a decision to ditch Lewis for stopping the fight.
"Kostya wanted to continue but Lewis felt that he was losing the fight," Tszyu's promoter Vlad Warton was quoted as saying by Sovietsky Sport newspaper.
"It wasn't Kostya's decision to end the fight. He would have never stopped his own fight."
Tszyu and Lewis have been together since 1992 after the boxer moved from Russia to Australia.
Big shock to me. :(
Hatton was beating Tszyu's ass, winning on the scorecards, and would have easily won the twelth since Tszyu was breathing heavy and generally looked liked crap...I hated to see him quit, or allow the fight to be stopped or whatever but this wasn't going to be a Chavez-Taylor type fight...Chavez looked better late in that fight and Taylor was deteriorating...not so here...Tszyu could have looked for the knockout but at the point he was at it very likely could have resulted in HAtton getting a knoockdown based on Tszyu exhaustion
Hatton is great....but I've said it before and I believe it with all my heart:
Stewart has out-lived his usefullness as a trainer. Maybe it's not only fighters that can lose the hunger. Whatever the reason, he is not getting the job done.
That true!... Oh well, this will give all the non-Hatton believer's more ammunition to try and fire Hatton down after his tremendous victory. :dunno:
Look man, you Hatton fanatics are taking this shit overboard, there is no conspiracy to downplay such a huge victory for your countryman, there are a few who talk shit just to talk it,but they are in the minority by far. There have been a couple "if" this or "if" that threads for possible excuses for KT, but how many threads have their been praising Hatton like he is the next messiah? Ignore the fools that discredit Hatton's win.
GEEZUS... you guys sound like women arguing about a bunch of gossip...
it's over the report was false... http://www.fightnews.com/wheatley101.htm
just a bunch of rumor and gossip, now stop sounding like old women already...
I dont believe this for one sec. LISTEN to the entire corner prior to the 12th. They were all encouraging him.... Tszyu is making it worse for himself.
If i may play devils advocate here, there should be no reason Tszyu wont accept a rematch then, cuz Hatton has offered it...

Bullshit. Kostya Tszyu is now just trying to make a scapegoat out of Lewis. I heard in the corner him agreeing to end the bout. He even said in post fight interviews that he had no complaints. I deeply respect Kostya Tszyu, I feel he is one of the top 2 or 3 140 champions of all time, but I have to frown upon this statement.
How the fuck is he avoiding the fact that he lost? What do you think it means when he says "He was the better fighter tonight in every round"? Don't talk shit you have no idea about just to try and get your posts up you fucking idiot!
Thats complete rubbish.
Amid the specualtion on Australion talk back radio 1 hour ago Tzu was contacted in Ban Kok (if thats how you spell it) whilst stopping over for his return to Sydney.
Tzu dismissed the claims as rubbish and said he and his wife Natasha would be shorlty holidaying in New Zealand where he will decide his future in boxing.

If Tszyu & Hatton have a rematch, his trainer's actions may well have given Tszyu a chance next time. Imagine if Tszyu got stopped badly in round 12, it would have taken far more out of him. Ironic to sack the trainer after that??
is that true? what sources have you used?

Thats bullshit, he was only thinking of his safety.
The only reason i can think of is Tszyu's agreed to break up with his coach to avoid bad media, so it looks like Tszyu did really want to continue. It would make sense because Tszyu would only be returning for a couple of fights, they will proabably get back together too.
The problem is Tszyu's already said on live TV that he agreed with Lewis's decision to pull him out.
