This bum quit and I dont care what anyone says. He even said after the fight that he quit with 1 round left because he was losing. That is a discrace to the sport. There are guys who have died in the ring and this bum quits and doesnt want a rematch. What a punk. What about guys like Chico who went crazy when they stop his fights and says he rather go out on his back and this guy quits? What a pathetic chump
All of you wouldve killed everyone else if they have quit. You guys have killed other fighters and you wouldve called Floyd all kinds of names. Now what do you think on Tszyu?
DLT I wanted to think about this for a while before giving my opnion but after having thought about it for so long I have to say that I agree with you 100%.
People say that it was okay for him to quit because he a family to feed. Well fuck that, the guy's in boxing, he's come all this way okay and he knows the risks. This isn't freakin' doily-making. He's made a lot of money in this profession and he was making a lot of money for this fight and I'm sorry but he is obliged to act as a professional would in this sort of situation.
I don't like comparing boxing to war but think about if a soldier wussed out on the front lines because things were going bad and then gave the excuse that he had a "family to feed". Fuck that, you do what your profession dictates you to do. And it's not like Kostya was going to get killed in there. Fuck, a lot of guys get beat bad and got out there and humiliate themselves round after round until it's over. Fuck, it's not like he had even been knocked down yet. Seriously, how hurt could he have been?
I find it funny that people critcize Hopkins for not behaving as a "warrior" should yet defend Kostya for what he did. Hopkins at least finishes what he starts even if sometimes he doesn't come in guns blazing and take more punishment as a result. This guy quits on the stool and it's okay because he has a family to feed?
Excellent post.
I have to say I did lose respect for him. You never quit on the stool unless you have broken bones. A true champ doesn't even quit then. Ask Ali. Ask Gatti.
He now joins the modern day ranks of Big Klit (the worst one because he couldn't have lost that fight) and Freitas.
Kostya shouldn't have given up in that fight but I don't know about that not quitting unless you have broken bones stuff. If someone is beating the crap out of you and you are completely ineffective with no strategy for winning its time to quit. I mean look at Ali he never quit but in a way his brain quit on him. He should have gotten out of the ring earlier than he did. The same thing happens to a lot of fighters that take too much punishment just to show they have heart. Have you heard Chavez try to talk. No amount of respect is worth ending up having your brain turn into mush. There is a line between being a pu*sy and letting yourself get knocked retarded. All the heart in the world can't undo brain damage. And we have also seen that refs don't always stop fights when they should. I would never put my life in the hands of some of those crooked basta**ds if I could avoid it. I think we have to be more realistic when drawing the line between quitting prematurely and quitting intelligently.
I lost respect for Kostya. It wasn't like he was taking some awful beating physically. He was just taking an ass whoopping mentally. He wasn't tough enough to try to find a way to win period. I lost respect for Kostya in this fight but maybe its just time for him to retire. I'm not saying that I lost respect for his legacy as a fighter I just lost repect for the heart he has to fight at this point in time.

I think Tszyu is a amazing guy. He was beaten and had nothing left and he knew it. Why risk getting stopped and serious injury? He already knew he was beat and thats why him and his corner made a wise GOOD decision. I admire Tszyu alot and respect him even more than i already did through seeing the amazing and heart moving sportsmanship that he and Ricky showed at the end of the fight for each other.
DLT your a asshole  Shut your mouth you bitch
I didnt know you were his girlfriend. I didnt say anything to you so dont come at me like that littile girl. JCC was getting dominated by Meldrick Taylor but he didnt quit and he stopped Taylor in the 12th

yup the corner stopped the fight
after Tszyu told them he didnt want to continue
the guy counting on the news link
did u even see the actual fight?
they showed after the stoppage the replay of what went on in the corner
tszyu mumbled some shit
his corner guys said
no u cant quit now
they continued debating for the 60 second brake
then eventually the corner had to stop it
becuz tszyu didnt want anymore
so yes
Technicaly the corner stopped it
but as a favor to their fighter who didnt want to quit he wanted them to quit for him
I did lose a little respect for him, but this does not take anything away from his legacy. This man has given us his all his entire career. The man is 35, he's past his prime, and yet he still fights all the hungry, younger fighters. He fought Hatton at his own hometown, and even when Hatton was fighting a little dirty, Zoo was still patient, and did not complain at all after the fight. He even gave props to hatton for beating him. The man has a family to take care of, and even though quitting before the 12th round was a little questionable, this was what he wanted. Let him rest and live his life.

I still have respect for Kostya, but he needs to retire. DLT, stop bashing KT. As much as you would like to believe Hatton is SO GREAT, he beat a old fighter who in hindsight shouldn't have even been in the ring.
Nah. If anything, I give him more respect. Zoo did quit, but he never complained about the countless fouls and the incompentency of the ref. Plus he still complemented his opponent who flagrantly fouled him in several occassions throughout the match.
I never really figured out why he quit. Can anybody fill me in on that one?
Please dont go there. Tszyu fights like this every fight. He just got beat at his own game. Tszyu always hits behind the heard, punches in clinches, and punches on breaks. Thats how he wears guys down. Remember Tszyu-Mitchell 1? Tszyu was losing and started throwing him around like a rag doll. Tszyu fans need to stop complaing about the ref becauses Tszyu roughs up guys in every fight and Hatton knew it so he tried to beat him to it

What the hell? People are saying it was okay to quit because his life could have been ruined. WTF? The guy wasn't getting mauled, He still had a punchers chance in the fight. Corrales took 10x more punishment than Tszyu & he didn't quit. It seems like his life isn't ruined. Stop being Tszyu apologists. He quit plain & simple and there is no more of a disgraceful thing in sports than quitting.
It was his corner's decision.

Johnny Lewis had a tear in his eye after putting an end to Kostya Tszyu's world title defence and possibly pulling the curtain on one of boxing's great careers.
Tszyu wanted to come out for the 12th and final round in which he needed to knock out unbeaten English challenger Ricky Hatton to keep his IBF light-welterweight world crown for the 17th time.
But trainer Lewis, who has been with him since he immigrated from Russia and turned pro in Sydney in 1992, kept the 35-year-old on his stool after he took some serious punishment in the 11th.
I hope this is true...I was watching the match in a strip club with no volume so the whole stoppage was rather puzzling...I can't figure out why Tszyu quit though...he only had three minutes to go...he didn;t look all that bad in the 11th round and he didn't look all that bashed up...I always thought Hatton had a good chance of winning and he took Tszyu's punches well...of course the debate for Tszyu boosters will soon be whether Tszyu aged ovenight in this fight and Hatton simply beat a depleated champion...Hatton looked sharp though and will make a great champ...I was really disappointed that Tszyu quit...he still had a puncher's chance, even in the final round, although he didn;t look like he was doing all that much damage with his punches...great fight!!! The debate will be all over the place for this fight but I think Tszyu said it best when he said he simply lost to a better fighter...Hatton was hungry and ready for Tszyu and it really showed...props to Hatton and his whole team for a win over what will be a hall of fame fighter.
Stop wishing. Did you hear Tszyu or not. He didnt want to fight and he again admitted after the fight
It was his corner's decision.

It's been confirmed that Johnny Lewis stopped the fight, not Tszyu.

BTW,
This is coming from a true Tszyu fan.. (posted from another thread
>Hey, do you want to talk about the Taylor state? Lets talk about the real Taylor state. How did he get that way? He got that way from dominating a fight and then getting stopped in the last round. Something that Tszyu never gave himself a chance to do. JCC didnt quit when he was losing every round and he stopped Taylor in the 12th. Tszyu was also not nearly beat up like Taylor was so dont give me that garbage
