For all the contender haters who thought this show was bull shit, well did you see sergio and manfredo. Cmon now, that was one of the most emotion and awsome fights this year for fighters that noone new (besides manfredo) or heard of befor. What do you all think, do you still think this show was bad for boxing, what do you think about the main fight itslef.
I really thought the show were just exaggerating the fights by editing it brilliantly. After seeing tonight's fight live and unedited, I could safely say now that The Contender is real. What a fight! You gotta like Mora's emotions in the ring, that was awesome.
Although, I feel bad for Mora's girl, it's almost like she got left behind. Did you see Joe Cortez's arms in Mora's girl at the end, hehe. Mora ought to fuck her mother for that closeness, ignoring his girl and shit.
Looking forward to another great season of The Contender II, hopefully it'll be John Ruiz instead of SRL, and the fighters will be heavyweights.
i dont know i thought Morales - Pacman was 1 sided.
but i do rank this fight(contender) as up there, but the year is still young.
That's because you're blind. Morales - Pacman was a close fight.
I know what you mean about the Morales-Pacquiao fight as being kind of one-sided at times, but I thought Mora-Manfredo was even more one-sided then that. I mean, one judge even had the fight 70-63. It was pretty clear that Sergio was the winner. Again, there is the seven rounds against twelve thing also.
What I could really respect about the show is that they really got the proper caliber of guys to participate. They were all good fighters and I had heard of a bunch of them (Ishe, Fraza, Manfredo, etc), but they had limited enough exposure that this oppurtunity would really bring out the best in them. I am curious to see what becomes of Joey Gilbert and some of the other, more obscure fighters now that the show is over.
I really enjoyed the show and thought that at the very least, two of the three best fighters on the show were in the final event. I also thought that unlike Next Great Champ they actually had some decent fighters and that Sergio was a charasmatic winner. That being said, I was not all too impressed with the fight. I thought that it was a little sloppy, alot of missed punches, alot of stuff both behind the head and below the belt, and it was only seven rounds so it was easier to throw alot of punches cause you would not be gassed in rounds 8-12. All of that being said though, both guys really wanted it, showed alot of heart, and should be proud of what they did. The turned out much better then I expected as did the main event. I just dont think it is really a fight of the year, I think stuff like Castillo-Corrales, Morales-Pacquiao, and Hussien-Arce will all better- but this was certainly nothing to scoff at.
Oh i know this wont make fight of the year, i was just saying that it was an awsome fight for a fighters who arent de la hoyas, or pacmans, or morales'. I agree with most of what you said.
