I have in the past been accused of being anti-European, despite the fact I am half Italian-Irish-Scottish-German, so I want the European guys here to tell me whats really good.
I recently read that Nicolay Valuev KO'ed Clifford Ettienne in the 3rd round, Woah! The man is 41-0 (31 KO), but largely against non-descript opposition. Why aren't they matched tougher? If an American heavyweight goes 41-0 against Valuev's opposition, they would probably revoke his license for making the Athletic Commisions sick, unless they are from Tennessee.
How about this Mahyar Monshipour character? He is 27-2-2 (18 KO), holds the WBA 122 Lb. strap, yet I have never heard of any of the guys he's fought. Why? Because he doesn't fight good opposition.
You tell me if I am prejudice or if I have a point.
P.S.
Oh yeah, Brian Nielsen!
How come byrd afraid to fight wlad in germany? He scared thats why.
Because its Germany and a shady decision is more likely to happen there thats why.
Lets face it, Byrd knows the fight will probably end by decision and every close round even if he does win it will probably go to Wlad.
thats cus they can make hella money fighting less-tough opposition in Europe already. They dont have a need to risk it all by coming to the tougher competition.
My analysis yields that euro fighters take too many breaks for tea and crumpets. Thats why US fighters better.
come on pretenter, thats very sterotypical :D
Kessler isn't underrated, IMO he isn't rated at all. He hasn't really fought anybody yet to be judged accurately.
How can you rate anyone then when Kessler completely owned Siaca who had previously beat up on Mundine who is recogized as a top 6 SMW by every ranking I've seen. If you are going to say that Kessler hasn't beaten anyone, then the other young SMW champ, Lacy has beaten no one either. Its hard to judge the SMW champs unless they fight each other because the division is so below average.
Nicolay Valuev is 7'0 tall that is the tallest boxer i ever seen. is he any good
Not very skilled, but potentially dangerous due to his size. I don't imagine anyone without something to prove would fight him unless he became a mandatory. He'd be a good opponent for a guy like Jameel McCLine, who wants to keep his name among the top contenders after a few stumbles.
Someone like Chris Byrd would beat him 120-108.
.JM Mormeck is probably the best cruiser..Tiozzo used to be excellent and is still a very good figther, although obviously over the hill
Mahyar Monshipour grabed the WBA belt less than 2 years ago, and ko'd medjkoune (former champ) twice, then the mandatory challengers.
He's not a cutie but constantly improving (he started boxing at 19 I believe) and he's a seek and destroy fighter, going very hard to the body and throwing tons of punches. I can tell u he's very exciting to watch and a very solid champ. Let's hope he can reunify with Larios later this year.
Monshipour ain't leaving France, believe me. Mormeck is the best at Cruiserweight, can't no one there beat him. Tiozzo, didn't he get blown away in the first by Virgil "Over the" Hill?

No, Mormeck IS the best in the division, not might be.
Might be. He has never Faced Oneil Bell as far as I am concerned. That would a dangerous matchup for him because of his tenacity and hanspeed.

There are some good European fighters. The Klitschko Brothers are the best heavyweights IMO.....Mikkel Kessler is a very good underrated supermiddleweight, who I think is the second best in the division. Jean Marc Mormeck is a very good cruiserweight...and might be the best in his division.
But as a whole, run of the mill European fighters to not hold a candle to fighters from the States in terms of talent and opposition faced.

All in All

Yeah at 168 lbs. and up Europe holds 10 belts and the U.S. holds 5.
Technically you're right, but there are only 3 meaningful belts above 168 right now, and they are held by Glen Johnson, JM Mormeck, and Vitali, who all fight in the US, so in all actuality the championships are the property of the US and the American promoters, not so much the actual fighters
Yeah at 168 lbs. and up Europe holds 10 belts and the U.S. holds 5.
Robin Reid, Joe Calzaghe, Fabrice Tiozzo, Michaelzcewski, Beyer all them muthafuckas can hold my dick.
Calzaghe can fight an eliminator for the number one contender to jerk me off.
I get sloppy seconds :)
but you see my point though? Calzone was really one elimination fight away from fighting Jones, but his people never really wanted the fight, so they held onto their precious WBogus belt instead
Haha yeah. Everyone is getting frisky over his spotless record. And spotless....because he has faced nothing but bums. This goes back to the discussion of him V.S. Lacy. One opponent that Calzaghe faced was Robin Reid. Many people on this forum are claiming he is going to beat Lacy. Reid has never been knocked out. Lacy is going to knock him out, and show people why Calzaghe is extremely overrated as a fighter. LOL.
Reid would not make it past 5, Calzone would not make it past 2.
quit stealin my Joey Calzone jokes!!! :)
great points though, I think Lacy will be the 1st to KO Reid as well (and in all fairness, Lacy is kinda-sorta doing what many European fighters have done, which is fight a re-tread has-been from overseas in order to drop a challenge on another fighter from that region)
the term "challenged" is thrown around quite a bit these days, and it carries very little value... in all seriousness, Joe's management team would have never struck a deal with Jones, because European promoters always try to get options on American opponents when they sign fight contracts, and Roy's not going to give any promoter any options, especially if they are challenging for his belts....if Calzaghe's team really wanted a Jones fight, then Joe would have dumped his WBogus belt, fought an eliminator at 175, won, and been installed as the #1 contender, which would have GUARANTEED him a fight with RJJ (to the credit of Clinton Woods' team, this is exactly what they did to get their man a shot at Jones, Tarver's team did the same thing as well)....so the verbal "challenges" that team Calzaghe threw out thru the British tabloid media aren't really credible
Calzaghe can fight an eliminator for the number one contender to jerk me off.
Joe Calzaghe, ain't that the guy who's been fighting Mario Veit and Kabary Salem? I almost forgot to say he sucks as well. Lets see him fight in America and then we'll talk.
