After the truth coming out that Tito basically stands no chance against crafty defensive boxers where does he stand all time? Tito still had a great career, but I don't no how you would rate him.
Winky went up in weight for this fight. Winky was the underdog for most (not for me). People should separate fanatism with reality, one thing is that you like to see Tito, other thing is say he win against everybody (he lost to three boxers, officially to two). he also fougth agains past prime Pernell and Camacho. Tito says he may go to suppermiddleweight or even lightheavyweight. He's a dreamer, in this picture on the URL you see that he has some fat at the waist, not like Winky. Imagine him at 168, with power punchers like Lacy, all that fat won't help. He should stay at 154 or below. In the picture, you also see he is insecure: he is looking with that face at Winky, while Winky doesn't need all these things, just box. http://sports.yahoo.com/box/photo?slug=r1273773175&prov=reuters Only Winky advantages are that he began at 150lbs, Tito at 140lbs, and theat Tito left the ring for 29 months.
Cotto did NOT demolish Corley, I had Corley ahead and it was a premature rigged stoppage.
Smacking around former 130-135 pounders do not make you the best.
I agree, Cotto wasn't good at that fight, consider Ivan Calderon from Puert Rico is undefeated and better technically, but a bit boring, since he has few ko.
i dont know about either, hopkins is still a great fighter and winky would have a lot of problems with b-hops style. jermain taylor is reall big for a middle and winky just came up from 154 so the size advantage might be too great.
All true. However, I see Taylor as very hittable. If you are Winky Wright, that means keeping yourself away from Lacy's big hook. Lacey can train all he wants against the Winky style, but he doesn't have the experience yet to execute when faced with a truly stiff long-distance southpaw jab. Lacey's team can find all the great sparring partners to prepare him well, but he'd still be surprised by Wright's accuracy and heaviness.
If I had to choose somebody at Middle to beat Wright, it must be Hopkins because he has the savvy and experience to "find a way". But Hopkins won't.
Also, looking at Tito alone, Hopkins' display agaianst the Puerto Rican was nothing like the total domination we saw this past weekend.
He is no doubt a hall of famer, hell his title fight experience is incredible and certainly stands out!
However...
Tito is not nearly as great as many especially those on the island think he is...the guy can't beat a great fighter that knows a thing or two in the ring...his power is completely disconnected whenever he faces a boxer with good skills.
To loose every fucking round to Winky says a lot...sure he is a hall of famer but he can never be considered one of the great fighters of all time because of his serious limitations in the ring.
Winky and Bernard owe Oscar some royalties because he was the first to really expose a kink in Tito's armor...they just completed what Hoya started.
Tito is a sure fire hall of famer and one of the best punchers I have ever seen but he is far too limited to ever be in the upper level of elite fighters...had to be a sad day for all Puerto Rican's...I had a couple over at my house for the fight and they were completely fucking devastated...
It was funny, these two guys I had at my house were scoring the fight looking for something, anyting to give a round for Tito, one of them had it 5-3 for Wright after 8....
I have said this before and I will say this right now....Miguel Cotto is a much better fighter than Tito at this point in their respective careers-he is much more of a complete fighter than Tito was at their respective stages, he is not nearly as one dimensional and I think that over time he may emerge as the better fighter historically, that is if Miguel can beat up on guys his own size...the fact that he outweighs allof his opponents by a good margin may spell trouble when he can no longer cut it at 140.
I say he beats either of them, but in a closer fight than Tito.

it amazes me how many of you people are so fickle. I dont think either of these guys deserve anything less then full respect. Yea everyone knows Tito has problems with boxers, dont you think Tito knows this as well? he came out of retirement to fight the biggest stars and the best fighters and that is exactly what he did. Tito is a warrior who comes to fight and winky is a boxer who comes to box, the low blows were questionable at best and jay nady knew that as well thats why he waited until the 9th round to take a point. 70% of the fans on these sites are casual fair weathered fans.
hmm
Tito will only shorten his career by going to 168. H should stay at 160 and avoid Hops and wright, or he sould go down to 154. He only weighed 169 on fight-night vs Wright, so he can definitely do 154. Hell, at the weigh-in and during the fight, Tito had a bit of fat on him. He can make 154 no problem, and have success.
A dumb one dimentional fighter. But one of the best power punchers in the game. He shouldnt retire yet.
He should fight oscar so oscar can tag his ass as well
he's a great puncher but when he said he was going to retire immediatly after the fight that showed me he's a looser who doesnt care about his fans and has no pride or honor. there's still plenty of second tier fights out there for him. he could beat up on vargas again. then retire on a better note. but being exposed every round by winky lowered his rateing with me.
Felix Trinidad is a great fighter not a great boxer. There is a difference.
i think he still has one good fight left in him. a rematch would be pimp but winky is one of the better fighters out there so he will still have to work harder to have a chance of beating him.
tito aint done he can still do some damage, he will always have problems with slick boxers like wright. tito is one dimensional but he can still beat most middles out there. hopkins no, wright no but i can def see tito beating sturm. maybe he could move up to 168 and fight lacy or calzaghe.
wright has a future at middle, i would love to see what he could do against hopkins/taylor.
Retirement would probably be the best at this point.
I am certainly not taking anything away from Tito and I dont believe this fight takes away from his legacy. I cant believe some of the shit talking tito is receiving are all of the people forgetting the fact that before he retired his resume looked like this.
William Joppy
Fernando Vargas
David Reid
Oscar De la Hoya
Hugo Pineda
Pernell Whitaker
Oba Carr
Yori Boy Campas
Hector Camacho
That is a hall of fame record right there alone, show Tito respect.
The only thing Tito lost in this fight was his aura, his legacy and respect is still intact.
Well fuckin said. :cool2:

He deserves respect without a doubt, I just favor more of the slicksters rather than the big punchers. I have seen a couple Tito fights before this one and I guess his power made me look past his defense. I don't like fighters who come forward and walk right into jabs.
I'm torn between seeing him work on his boxing skills, moving up to face Lacy, or retiring. I dont understand how he can get dominated twice, maybe he lost his passion, maybe he is conceded, I feel he should of done abit better from what I hear, it all depends on his determination, if its not there do yourself a favor and retire, he is as before, a great fighter, you cant take away his hard earned record, he just had potentional to be even better, weither this is his end is up to him.

I don't mind watching guys with no defense, as long as they have chin and are taggin' the other guy.
You must not have enjoyed Tito-Mayorga then, since both guys are defensively weak. Mayorga being the far weaker though. Not for one moment did I think Tito's success against Mayorga was his second-coming. Tito showed a good chin, but he was hit way too much. Also, Tito looked good only because he had the faster harder hands and a guy with no defensive skills standing right in front of him, all night long.
No I loved Trinidad vs. Mayorga, but usually I like more tactical fighters.
.... can't watch fighter with no defense. I must admit after the Mayorga fight I did think Trinidad was back.

I expected Winky to beat Tito, based partly on his performance against Mayorga, but also his one-sided loss to the other Middle slickster. Winky was to Tito what Tito was to Matorga. Meaning, Winky had the better defense and also the quicker hands. Winky never let Tito get set up once, all night. Tito was great and is now sliding. Let's hope he retires, so we don't have to see anything close to that display agaian.
A lost like this will damage Trinidad mentally! If he fights again, he might not be so hyped up and he might lose. It's hard to come back from a loss. Maybe a tune up fight first before going against the top dawgs?
Based on the Winky fight, I'd rank him low as a Middleweight. Winky is also not the new Middleweight star, simply because he beat Tito.
I've always regarded Tito as being one-dimensional, but never expected Winky to make him look so bad. It was like Hopkins all over gain, except replace Hopkins' hugs with more Winky jabs.
