I know we have talked about this a ton but I watched the fight yesterday for the second time and here is my take about the ending.
Corrales as we all know was very smart in spitting his mouthpice on two consecutive knockdowns.
After the first knockdown he was seriously hurt and recieved a few extra seconds to get his mouthpiece back in...he was not recovered at all and Castillo began to land big shots almost immediately( the recovery time did little to get him clear).
Now after the second knocdown he appeared to be all thru however his recoop time was significantly longer than the first knockdown. His head was much clearer when he began to engage Castillo after the second knockdown and the time he was given has to be the #1 reason why.
Now Castillo was no doubt out of it and he was being supported by the ropes...
this is a dead horse to be beating but JL Castillo deserved an 8 count...if there is one fighter that deserved an 8 count in the last 20 years it would be JL...he fucking deserved that.
I don't know who would have won or who would have been kayoed but I do know that had JL been given the 8 count we may have not just seen the best round of the year or the best round since Gatti/Ward the 9th, but the best round in the history of championship prize fighting.
Every great fight of the year candidate has to have some help from the referee...if Jay Nady did all fights we would never see really great fights because he would always jump in and stop things. Referees have a lot to do with a historic war because they generally stay out of the way and when called upon make key decisions that enhance the quality of the fight(8 count).
An 8 count was so deserving and it may have just been the type of 8 count that takes one of the best rounds ever seen in the last couple of decades to the greatest round in the history of the sport.
Corrales was given every chance to continue and then some...JL should have been given one shot to show off his recovery skills.
Great fight, even better watching it the second time around but I will not forget the lack of an 8 count anytime soon.
What do you think, weather you are a CHICO man or a JL guy should Tony Weeks have given JL Castillo the opportunity for one last hurrah via the standing 8 count..(fuck the notion that they don't do standing 8 counts anymore, the point is should there have been one)
Thank you Diego and JL for giving me a thrill that does not come along that often-I will never forget last saturday night!
What? What have I said about Mexicans that Mexicans havent said about PR's? And the hell with LA, Miami till I die, you should come over here so you can actually meet (in real life) some of your Latino bothers. We got everything EXCEPT Mexicans...

Corrales's camp team is smart, they acting like Castillo is all beaten, and yet he already wants to go at it!Corrales doesnt want a rematch because he knows this time, it might go the other way.Looks like Morales might have to take him down for beating his boy Castillo.
How are they acting that Castillo is beat?
That I know of Castillo was telling he was ready for a rematch on the Sunday after the fight.
Corrales couldnt even walk on his own. :omfg:
Corrales beat Castillo ! And they both were fighting dirty, cause it was a dirty fight. :bottle:
After everything you have said about Mexicans and now your avatar making it clear that Corrales is not Mexican.
It really makes me wonder why your such a hater, you should come to L.A sometime so we can show you a little respect where respect is do.
By the way Tito by ko!
See is it that hard to like your Latino brothers?

I've watched the fight twice & he hits Chico multiple times on the hips & low. I think you need to watch it again.
Ya watch it again and pay att. to Chico when he does the same and add some hitting behind the head and pulling his head down also.
If anything Castillo was as clean as he could be in this fight.
Did you see the round were Castillo met Corrales at his corner and was about to hit when Corrales wasnt ready. He held up and walked him back to center of the ring and let him swing first. That is the problem with Mexicans they try to be too fair and thats one of the reasons they lose some fights. When Castillo complains about something like the hitting behind the head believe me it was for a reason.Castillo is not the type of man to complain about shit like that.
many of the body punches that Castillo landed were just fine, they were perfect on the belt shots, watch the fight again...

Chico earned & won his victory fair & within the rules of boxing. If he cheated or violated anything, he would've been DQ'ed. Weeks did the right thing & took a point away from him for the 2nd time the mouth piece was out. Castillo could've had alot points taken away for all the low/hip blows he was hitting Chico with throughout the fight. Weeks did the right thing & just let them fight. No standing 8 count for Castillo because he was out on his feet after absorbing some massive blows. He was beaten by someone who wanted the win a little more than him. If anyone questions Chico's heart as if he wanted to quit than they've never seen his reaction when he & PBF fought & that fight was stopped. He cursed his father out & looked as if he wanted to hit him. Or what about his reaction to when the Casa fight was stopped. He was a bloody mess & kept BEGGING for just 1 more round. He's no quitter & probably never will be.

Actually, I was rooting for Castillo as he is one of my favorite fighters. No, not as much as Cotto or Trinidad, but I was really disapointed and actually took the loss badly. That being said, after thinking of how many people here just keep creating excuses, I get angry at them for not accepting the loss like men and crying like children. We have a saying in PR: "A llorar pa' maternidad;" if you want to cry go to the maternity room. There is no sense in crying over spilled milk so just accept it and move on.
I moved on two days after the Tito-Hopkins fight, one of the worst disapointments in my life. It took me two days to move on after this fight, too. I just think people are holding on too much.
Do I think Castillo wins a rematch? Absolutely! Do I think Chico wants one? No. Do I think Chico wanted to quit from the 8th round on? Yes!
Chico spit his mouthpiece out in the 8th. First he stuck it out, signaling he was tired and hurt, then he put it back in and stuck it out again 10 seconds later. It was then knocked out by a Castillo punch, but the mouthpiece was already half pushed out by Chico. Yes, Chico learned from Freitas and spit the mouthpiece out and, in my eyes, would've got KTFO if he didn't have the extra 28 seconds but I think Weeks acted correctly and there is nothing to do now but wait for a rematch.
Castillo KO 6 in a rematch.
Point of view taken but the only person you could say anything about in that fight was Tito cause he straight out lost. Castillo was cheated more than once in this fight there were to many mistakes made. The fight was in the bag already and was taken away. I give Corrales credit for the win but would be really pissed if he doesnt take a rematch.
theres a big difference between the Trinidad-Hopkins fight the Castillo-Corrales fight...being that the latter was actually close. Hopkins dominated Trinidad..so theres no "excuses" or whatever to make up. Castillo lost..ok..fine..but Corrales spiting out his mouthpiece..is very un-warrior like..much like Freitas..doing the same
Please don't be so mean...get over it...im sorry, after watching one of the greatest fights in the history of the sport it is going to take me a little bit longer to get over it than 5 days.
Imagine if your precious Tito was stopped in the same fashion...you would be crying until the end of time...no you wouldn't cry you would have forgotten all about it on Sunday right? Right!

Castillo KO 6 in a rematch.
I think Castillo would even it up in a second fight. For those that think Corrales can win by jabbing, they are all wrong.Castillo can also do the same.I think it would be another war but this time, Castillo would win by KO.
Babied by the ref? Spitting out his mouthpiece? The first time he lost his mouthpiece, it was knocked out, and the ref waited until the action slowed before having it put in...the second time, he took it out and dropped it accidentally (he says), and got a point taken away. I don't know how that's considered being babied. I've seen fights where a fighter deliberately spit his mouthpiece across the ring a few times before being warned, much less having points deducted. And during both knockdowns, he rose to a knee long before the end of the count, was completely lucid and rose before the end of the count. At no point was he anywhere nearly as hurt as Castillo was when Diego had him trapped against the ropes and unloaded on him. Castillo would've been far better off if he'd allowed himself to drop after those first two shots from Corrales that connected, rather than waiting there stunned while Diego followed them up and knocked him stupid. The ref did exactly the right thing...he kept a totally defenseless fighter from catching anymore huge shots.
You make an interesting point...Chico in a lot of ways did not want to fight for certain parts of round ten and he made it very obvious...
The fight could have easily been stopped after Corrlales told the enitre world and especially Tony Weeks that he needed more than ten seconds to recover.
Commision should put the fighters on warning that if they are in danger of being stopped and they repeatedly spit out there mouthpiece then the fight will be stoppped.
Spitting out your mouthpiece is just like throwing in the towel right? Both gestures say loud and clear that you do not want to fight anymore...
at least when a fighter spits out hi mouthpice he is speaking directly for himself, when the white flag goes up somone is speaking for the fighter...
Diego, your a true warrior and you fought a hell of a fight but you spoke loud and clear too me in the tenth...
Man you have no idea how many times Ive watched the fight.Diego was trying to quit since the 8th round the first time he was being hit by power shots and spit his mouth piece out. It wasnt a punch that took his mouth piece out it was him spitting it out.
Diego won the fight but he was being helped to much that is why we need a rematch.
I think Corrales can stay away and will do better but you forget that Castillo s thing is to get inside and does it very well.I think Chico doesnt want to hear Castillo anymore,he pulled the victory out of his ass after being babied by the ref.
The fact that chico could even walk on his own after the fight tells me chico will try to quit sooner this time around. As soon as Castillo starts to punish the body again he will remember the pain. When a fighter goes down twice and delibertly takes his mouth piece out is sign that the fight should have been stopped a sign that should of been seen by the ref as an act of quiting.

There are no standing 8 counts under the Unified Rules, get it? NO STANDING 8 COUNTS! Having given an 8 count to JL Castillo wouldn't have only been illegal, it would've showed favoritism. Weeks is one of the best refs out there and he did the right thing. Get over it!
