this was a good fight....but the ref should of gave a standing 8 count....and this was no where near the level of any gatti ward fights........please keep it real and watch a tape of the matthew saad muhammad vs yaqui lopez 2 fight....that was classic
muhammad took 25 blows in a row while the ref watched and he came back and knocked out lopez!!
bottom line......see some other fights.......
peace
How you gonna put Foreman in there at #2 slot. You see his fights? He got no skill whatsoever. He walks forward, takes 3 secs to wind up a haymaker, and hopes for the best. He got power but no footwork or speed whatsoever. Ruiz far superior skills than Foreman ever dreamed of.
Seriously dude, stop smoking fucking crack. Its killing what few brain cells you got left ya fucking moron. Foreman would KO Ruiz within 3 in his prime
^^The anime in his avatar is Hajime No Ippo. It's a real good anime, if you can find the series peep it. But it's been licensed already, so I don't think you'll be able to find it at the regular anime torrent sites.
"this was a good fight....but the ref should of gave a standing 8 count...."
You wanna know why he didnt give castillo a standing 8 count, b/c the rules of the fight was no standing 8 count. Castillo is one of my favorite fighters but he was a rag doll on the ropes, a stopage was a good decision. I sure did want castillo to win, a hell of a fight either way.
Hey dangerousity, what anime is your avatar from looks pretty cool.
who cares what fights were better than this one? This was a great fight. Some people always looking for the negative.
damn i wish i could give you more karma.
I didnt say the fight was bad, I said it was very overrated. 10 years from now I doubt people would be putting this in the same league as the other legendary fights out there.
I guess seing everyone say, best fiht of all time, better than gatti-ward, hagler hearns, all out war 1-10, I expected alot. I watched the fight and I saw 2 guys leaning on each other throwing punches sparingly.
Again, a good fight but overrated. Am I the only one who seems to think so?
Watch the fight again. The action builds as it progresses. I'm still amazed by that. Most of the holding and leaning is in the first few rounds.
While you're watching, count the number of power punches landed. I mean good power shots, where the other guy is rattled. There is more in this one than in nearly every other fight I've seen.
There's no problem taking a different stance on the fight, by the way. But I'm just telling you my opinions  .
I didn't say he's the best ever I said Top 5 all time. Sure Ali the best but I bet even Ali thinks Ruiz is a great fighter. Ruiz got a better record than Tyson's spent ass. Ruiz fought better fighters than Tyson ever did. Tyson lost to every great fighter he got in the ring with. Ruiz beat Holyfield who beat Tyson twice.
actually i saw where ali said that he was ashamed to even mention ali and boxing in the same year.
This fight was better than the Gatti/Ward fights to me personally. After I dl'ed the first fight I knew how the others would go, Ward was clearly outclassed in the 2nd and didn't have a chance against a one handed fighter in the 3rd (peace to Mickey though, he's still cool). And he was on his way to losing in the first but managed to land tht ill body shot. In each one of these fights Ward was completely dependent on one punch to have any leverage on Gatti, the left hook to the body. And when I watched their last two fights, I knew if he couldn't land it he wasn't gonna win. Maybe I'm wrong on this, someone call me on it if I am though.
In the Castillo/Corrales fight, they were on each other the whole time not giving any type of leverage, letting their hands go. I might be wrong, but weren't both fighters more active than Ward was in the last two fights, cus in the last two he seemed to be having trouble letting his hands go when he needed to. Well, that's how I see it. And Castillo was dropped his hands and seemed to be out on the ropes, if the ref didn't stop the fight after he dropped his hands from the right, then he would have after he got hit with the left Diego was about to throw.

This fight is WAAYYYYYYYY overrated. Just because fighters fight on the inside doesnt mean = action. Somehow 2 guys leaning on each other and throwing punches, punches not combo's doesnt look that great. If they werent leaning on each other and throw punches from mid-range, its just the same thing. That wasn't proper war, that was tactical inside fighting, no different to tactical outside fighting.
Hearns vs Duran - The guys fought at midrange but watch at how Hearns hands go, the combinations.
Hagler vs Hearns 1st round, that was proper war, they werent leaning on each other and sparingly throwing punches at each other. They just charged at each other and punc punch punch, thats war.
Gatti Ward rnd 9 - look at how many clean shots were being thrown, again not leaning on each other throwing punches sparingly.
The stoppage was a joke, Im sorry but when a guy KD the opponent twice the same round, then the opponent comes back with a rally managing to land 5-9 consecutive hits and being hit in return, that shouldn't be stopped. Gatti took much more punishment rnd 9 against the ropes.
I agree that this match is way overrated. Cmon, fighting on the inside for most of the fight isn't excatly eye pleasin. It look like they were on clinch and just threw whatever. I enjoy Gatti and Ward more. Sorry doos!
who cares what fights were better than this one? This was a great fight. Some people always looking for the negative.
Yeah, I agree. People are just trying to hate. There were other great fights besides this one, nobody's debating that. But anyone that denies that this was one hell of a war must not watch too much boxing.
I thought it was a great great fight but in order to pass gatti ward in my view they have to have two more great fights and I just don't think goussin wants deigo to take that again.

If these guys went at it like Hagler - Hearns than there's no way it would have lasted 10 rounds. What made this fight so cool is that there was more or less sustained action for that long. And there were many, many times when they broke away from each other and threw good mid-range punches. These moments didn't last that long, but there were plenty of them. And even the close-range stuff was good.
As for the stoppage, I defy anyone who watched the second replay Showtime showed to tell me that it wasn't valid. From the angle they show Castillo was definitely right out of it. Maybe if he was in the middle of the ring he could have fallen down and taken a breather but as it was his situation was dangerous, and Corrales was basically getting free shots at his head. It's Castillo's bad luck that the ropes propped him up like this, but that's life.

How did this become a thread about John Ruiz
btw, this kills Gatti - Ward because of the skill level of the fighters. I'm sure this has been pointed out several times already, but I thought I'd chip it in again.

I don't think RUNW/Knives rated Foreman as # 2. It's a random list of who he considers great fighters.
I think you're referring to Ruiz's superior clinch and pinch technique. He's #1 at it. Probably the best there ever will be.
Ruiz beat Holyfield so whats your point. And after Ruiz lost to Tua guess what, he never looked back and went on to be 2 time world champion and win 4 defenses. Tua who was supposed to be so skillful and potentially a great boxer went down as a nobody. Great fighters like Ruiz learn from their losses then go on and make history. Ruiz made history first latin HW champ!
Yeah, he made history out of a disgrace.
He can't look bad because he's always looked bad ever since. He made his successful/disgraceful defenses by clinching and kissing.
Yes, and also the first heavyweight champ to lose his titles each time to a natural middleweight. Holds the record for most clinches in a heavyweight title fight.
Ruiz is a legend for sure!

Were standing 8 counts even allowed for this fight? See Brewster vs. W. Klitschko for an illegal use of a standing 8 count given by Byrd.
dis was way more den gatti ward
this was toe to toe from the get go
gatti was able to box lota the first rounds
this fight was def better then that
plau it had the dramatic come back from two knockdowns where both times it looked like it was over
two successive knockdowns... plus a point deduction ;)
