Ok... so HBO should be fucking pissing in their pants because of all the great fights being shown on Showtime. Over the weekend i have experienced double knockdowns, action packed fights, and of course a fight of the year candidate all on showtime. The best part is......they were all FREE!!! NO PPV BULLSHIT!> So HBO has some good fights coming in, but they are ALL PPV!!! What kind of bullshit is that. I must say that SHOWtime IS THE NEW PEOPLE's boxing network champ. They show fights that are of ppv magnitutde and show it for free...unless you are no subscribed to showtime. What has HBO shown recently that is free? Wlad Klitschko vs. WHO? They really need to step their game up NOW!
I don't care where the fights will be televised. I have to say honestly that HBO do more promoting on big fights on their websites like good boxing posters and commercials, something Shotime hasn't got. And the second is that in every major fight the legendary Michael Buffer acts as the ring announcer, who I prefer above Jimmy Lennon jr. Sure HBO made mistakes in the last recent months (Barerra vs. Fana and Klitschko vs. Williams), but what the hack.
I remember during the fourth round of that Corrales/Castillo bout, right when they came out for the bell, I was thinking to myself; in a few years, we'll be seeing some kind of "Legendary Nights" for Showtime, with all these great fights happening on Showtime...
It's a shame HBO didn't televise that fight on boxing after dark...would be a good addition to their legacy of providing great fights..
I've always liked HBO Boxing, but Showtime has really stepped it up. I can't put Showtime above them just yet, due to the fact that HBO has had great fights spanning 2 or 3 decades. Showtime is however looking like they could take over considering it's "what have you done for me lately?" Showtime has broadcasted probably one of the greatest fights ever last weekend and will broadcast Tszyu-Hatton next month, while HBO continuously spits out these PPV fights, most of which aren't even worth a dime.
Tyson-Ettienne was free to those who had Showtime; it followed a Jay-Z concert that Showtime was heavily promoting.
Those who didn't pay the 12 bucks a month for Showtime and didn't think to order the channel rather than plop down 24.95 to see the 90 - second fight and one or two undercards still probably felt less stinged than they did for buying Tyson-McNeely
Tyson McNeely was the good old days when you get a pirate box to see all pay-per-views for 50 bucks one time payment.
Tyson-Etienne was on regular Showtime wasn't it? Maybe not, I can't remember...damn Showtime for not giving us Tyson-McBride for free! Other than that, Showtime has been incredible lately...

I love the commetary on HBO for the most part and dont find it biased at all. Like in Castillo's 2nd fight against Mayweather, Mayweather was fighting like a complete bitch and boring the hell out of everybody and Larry Merchant goes "Floyd Mayweather did not want to fight in New York or LA, I guess he did New York and LA a favor" and Floyd deserves to be slagged off because he is complete jagoff.
The one big thing I missed while watching boxing yesterday was the punch stats. I would have loved to see the punch stats. It also would have been a bit easier to score rounds.
The cool thing about Showtime is that if they have a ppv, usually they will air it on Showtime as well. They have done this numerous times as of late.
If it was aired on HBO Lampley would be all over the balls of a fighter and be bias, Showtime isnt biased and calls it down the line. While I hate their announcers when you have a strong action packed fight like you seen last night the commentators doesnt matter.
Showtime has really stepped up though, they had this fight and in a few weeks will have Tszyu vs Hatton which is a blockbuster fight.
Showtime has 135 on lockdown :)
i have both hbo and showtime and i watch which everone is showing boxing . as far as the commetators go lampley and merchant tend to be real bias for certain fighters which can make the commentary real annoying also merchant does not make any sense alot of times but he is funny so he makes up for it another thing that anoys me is that sometimes they totally forget about the fight and start talking about something else for almost a whole rnd. don't know if anybody has noticed this??......showtime has bernstein and alberts for their commentary alot of people don't like them but i think they do a good job bernstein seems to know alot more about boxing than merchant and lampley for example he can say things like "this fighter should move to his left and use his jab " and i will be thinking the samething as to where lampey and merchant just call the action not the technical stuff.
as far as the cards they put on show time does alot better job showing fights that could be ppv for free and their fights that are not ppv quality also tend to be better here are some examples
tzyu vs. mitchell 2
freitas vs. barrios
burton vs. elder (not ppv quality but a hell of a fight
fight of the year type fight)
casamayor vs. corrales 2
corrales vs. freitas
casamayor vs. castillo
castillo vs. corrales
and they will also be showing tzyu vs. hatton for free
hbo tends to have the better ppv showtime only shows tyson fights. hbo messed up having barrera vs. fana on ppv thank god i did not pay for this also dlh vs. hopkins was not worth the money i paid and any of the heavyweight king card are also garbage .they have had some good cards on for free also :
gatti vs. ward trilogy
pac vs. barerra
pac vs. jmm
here is some of their ppv that i have gotten that i thought were good recently :
tito vs. mayorga
barerra vs. morales 3
pac vs. morales
and they have tito vs. winky next week and floyd vs. gatti coming up .hbo has the better production but showtime tends to put on better fights on for free and money talks so i pick showtime over hbo even thoguh i wil still get their good ppv because i love boxing .
I said on my own HBO vs Showtime thread that showtime IMO has more competetive matches than HBO and that is Showtime's best quality. HBO does tend to shelter somewhat the fighters they sign to big contracts. Showtime matches their guys up against alot better opposition like you saw tonight, Castillo is contracted to fight for Showtime.
But HBO's production values are alot better that is why promoters pay HBO to produce their fights for them.

HBO is having too many lopsided showcase type fights(Vargas,Bitchko etc.).They even made Barrera-Fana a PPV event,LMAO!Showtime is putting together more competitive fight cards and televise atleast two fights per week.I'm starting to think HBO boxing is the reason that Boxing has reached a low point in popularity the past few years.
Barrera Fana was a Golden Boy Promotions event. Golden Boy paid HBO to produce the fight, same as Don King does on most occasions.
