what is a good way beat a guy who just throws wild punches to knock u out?
i saw the tape of the guy i'll spar with, and he just throws wild punches and pressures the opponent...
since i've never ever boxed before, i do not know an effective way to deal with this type of fighter...
i have the basics so i just need a game plan and know how to execute...
any amateurs or pros, help me out! i'd appreciate it.\
also tell me wut it's like when u step into the ring for the first time!
oh yea...i'm about 130 lbs and the other guy weighs slightly more than me, we about the same height...i have pretty decent power in both hands (at least i think so
your game plan should be jab and move, circle him jab jab jab, go in with 1-2 ore 1-2-3 combos, if he swings wildly he`ll tire, let him tire and go in for the kill when he is exhausted.
jab his head and hookercut his liver and throw your straight to his solar plexus, it will make him tire faster.
from experience, the best way to fight those types of guys is to be quick around the ring, use head movment, make them box and and counter. With head movement ur able to wear him down and also counter. Use the counters to ur advanage since he wont be counter. It helps belive me, i moved around and used those and countered. i learned it from a pro who trains me during the week.
although im still learning boxing, if someoen is swingign wildy right off that bat just go down the middle, if the guy is fat and has fast punches i wouldnt suggest moving cause u could get caught while doing it, just sand yr ground throw down the pipe and let him wear himself out sorta unless u KO him from stright punches. if he just throws but he is kinda slow dont get cocky just move lateral and throw stright down thr pipe. if im wrong disregard this message
Read his name, "The Pretender", this guys a joke.
Anyway, i think the best way is if he throws wild hooks just duck and give him a hard uppercut, b/c when someone throw wild punches their deff is basically gone so if you catch him good he'll be done for. Like everyone else is saying just move around if your confident with your head movement have him thro those punches but make him miss, he'll tire himself out then take advantage of that. Dont be stiff, be relaxed and try to tie him up as much also, he'll get frustrated and leave himself more open. Dont listen to all those dirty tricks, even if a sparring match dont stoop to that level. Good luck i hope you kick his ass.
I wasn't implying that if you loose, it's over. I'm only saying that when you face that guy for the first time, you learn something about yourself.
I've seen countless guys walk away for good after the first time.
I disagree a little bit Torino. No one does great their first time, especially if you are matched up with someone superior to you.
If you get your ass kicked, don't worry about it. It doesn't mean you aren't meant to be a boxer. However, if you get your ass kicked and never go back to the gym THEN it means something. Persistence is the #1 attribute a boxer can have in his aresenal. Boxing is an uphill climb even for people with talent.
Remember that even Foreman was hurt and embarassed his first time in the ring with an experienced lightweight. Louis was tagged by a welterweight in his first sparring session and he later said "I thought the heavyweight champion of the world had hit me".
Don't be afraid if you get hurt in there. The guys on TV look composed and cool (and they are) but when you get punched you'll feel it. Don't think you have a glass chin because you find yourself getting rocked and above all DON'T PANIC. This first sparring session will be more of an ice breaker than anything. Don't be too critical of yourself afterwords. You may do well but you may end up getting battered. It's a learning experience either way.
Keep your jab in his face and try to keep circling away from his power. This will keep him off target and keep him reaching, weakening the impact his shots. He will eventually tire out, start looking for other ways to get to you, or both and it won't take long. That's when you begin to open up your attack with 1-2's and later with measured hooks and uppercuts.
The first time you step in the ring is scary for everyone. Just have to man up. It is this moment when you learn whether or not you are a boxer.
Feel him out. Watching a guy on video and in the gym is very different from being in there with him. It's good to have plans of what you might do, but only when you get in there will you be able to really figure him out. Just keep your guard up and remember to back off and breath if you do get hit.
the guy i'm fighting is a police officer and he's had a few sparring sessions. i'm muscular but he's on skinny side, so i think i have power but he has speed. only thing that i'm worried about is his experience and style. i'm all excited about my first sparring session and i practice everyday and think about how to handle this guy...i guess i'll stand on my ground, don't back up, if the guy gets relentless, just move side to side...and counter occasionally. his punches are very wild and i think i can catch him between his punches...
I wouldnt stand infront of some one like that dude..thats just my 2 cents, I think your best bet is lateral movement, let him tire himself out a bit, and yes and occasional body shot will help but unless you have a great chin dont try to stand and flurry becuase you will most likely get rocked

At least you know what he brings to the table. Be smart in there, don't tense yourself 'cause you will tire yourself out. The best thing to do is be very relaxed.
My gameplan would be to counter him with straight punches. If he's a wild puncher just as you described, usually fighters can sense when wild punchers are going to attack....just use a little lateral movement to evade the attack, then counter with a quick 1-2 combo.
And work the body to slow him down, stick the jab in his face, and kick his a*s! :boxing:
When that guy comes in and you have your guard up, lower your head and come in as well for an "unintentional" headbutt into his chin or nose. When he gets cracked and jerks back uppercut his ass. If he blindly throws haymakers stick a forearm into his face and shove him off and try to land a power shot of your own. Inject a couple drops of bleach under the skin of the gloves near the knuckles. It's undetectable and after a couple rounds will squeeze out the hole and onto your opponents face. If anyone does that to you, keep your eyes open until they tear to help flush it out.
LOL, Man this guy is a fool. Damn, that's some funny shit.
I think the best way to approach someone like that is to work on your lateral movement. You need to practice on side steping him, if he throws a right step to your left if he throws a left step to your right its pretty basic im sure you know that already, you cant just step straight back because then you will eventaully run out of space and he will catch you, and keep your hands up at all time and eyes open dont flinch
