Hey!
It's been argued by many that Toney has already earned himself a spot at the hall of fame.
As my oposition mentioned in another thread:
He beat Michael Nunn for the Middleweight crown, then Iran Barkley for the Super Middleweight crown, then Vasily Jirov for the Cruiserweight crown.
All 3 were considered to be among the best in their division at the times.
To which I replied:
Vasily Jirov - Yes he did beat him and Jirov was a champion. A champion of what?? Are there any real contenders in Cruiserweight? A boxer with any skills moves up to HWs. So THE KING Jirov is what now ranked as 42? Lets move on to his next opponent on your list (reverse order)..
Iran Barkley - 30-7-0 at the time Toney beat him? 43-19-1 - How is that a valid champion??
Michael Nunn - OK, not a bad record, but again: who did HE fight?
Toney beat him to win the IBF Middleweight title. I Be Fat - Yes he won that!
Anyway,
I just want to hear other peoples opinion.
DO YOU THINK TONEY HAS EARNED HIMSELF A SPOT IN THE HALL OF FAME.
(Lets not turn this around to a Klitschko discussion)
Anyone who says no should go back and look at what he has done. Further more you are just haters whos judgement is clouded by hate or your not all there.
this is a joke right? if toneys resume doesnt get him into the hall of fame none of the current fighters belong, tito, delahoya etc dont even come close to toneys resume. and even in his shitty state i still thought he beat griffin twice and thadzi. his only lost one fight convincingly and that was to a prime roy jones. lets not even talk about tiberi that was not some highway robbery.
When you win titles at Super middleweight, middleweight, cruiserweight, heavyweight and compile a record of 69 wins 43 knockouts with 4 loses your a hall of famer. It doesn't seem like anyone on this site appreciates greatness, its all about fat jokes and stupid stuff that has nothing to do with prize fighting. Gets annoying at times, I guess I am just too realistic.
you missed the joke...
Based on the hall of fame's selectivity, i'd say my dog has a shot of being inducted. There are some fighters currently in the hall that absolutely do not belong. So will Toney be a hall of famer? Probably.
Does he deserve to be in the hall? That's a bit more iffy. Yes, he has accomplished quite a bit and is a great fighter by today's standards (not saying much). However, he was wholly inconsistent losing to Thadzi, Griffin, and barely squeezing by a few less than stellar opposition. Still, with all this taken into account, he probably deserves a spot, but at the bottom tier.
You're right man. Toney a hall of famer? What a fucking joke. What has he done to deserve a place in such a sacred, hallowed hall where immortal legends such as the great...
...are remembered.

you mean "huffer"? or perhaps "fluffer"?;)
You're doing a piss poor job of stirring shit, if that's your intent. If you are intending to be funny, perhaps you are slightly overdoing it. A little more subtlety in your schtick would work wonders.
VDiary: I wonder how long you've even watched Boxing. I really do. Who did Nunn beat...well, let's see. He beat tate to win his first title, then became TRUE lineal champ in 89 with a win over Sumbu Kalambay by 1st round KO. Who was Kalambay? Well, he was coming off wins over Barkley and an undefeated McCallum and went on to beat Collins and almost beat Mike again. Nunn also had wins over Curry before he gave Norris hell as well as lineal welter champ Starling and Barkley as well. He was ranked #3 P4P when Toney beat him.
Barkley, though he lost to most top dogs, was always a tough fight. he was a year removed from his rematch victory over Hearns. Tough guy. But that wasn't Toney's best win at 168. That was Prince Charles Williams, an ever underrated titlist. And Jirov was a great fight if not a great fighter.
Toney, at middle, beat two guys who were in the top ten P4P at the time(Nunn, McCallum), beat a future two division titlist in Reggie Johnson in a lost classic. Add Barkley, Jirov, Louise, titles in four weight classes...yeah, he's HOF.
Toney is a 4 division champion who won titles from Middleweight to Heavyweight.
Not only is he an obvious HOF first ballot vote in, I'd go so far as to say anyone who doesn't think so is an idiot, or has no idea what other kind of fighters were voted in.

Of course he is a hall of a famer, this is not even debateable . James Toney is one of the biggest fighters of 90's and 2000's without question. Plus one of only 3 fighters to win titles at middleweight and heavyweight, not to mention at 168 and cruiserweight as well. Anybody that says Toney is not a hall of fame fighter is simply a hater.
I hate Toney and think he's a fat punk with insecurity issues but he's done enough to deserve a spot in the HOF. I mean when Jess Willard is there, how can you deny Toney?
