What did you see in Wladimir in this fight? Personally, I think he is on his way to becoming the Wlad of three or four years ago. Before you start calling me delusional or any other crap, read carefully. I will say what I liked about his performance.
1. He showed patience and composure. Yes, I know that Castillo was absolutely afraid and frozen but still, Wladimir was trying to pace himself.
2. He looked more athletic overall if you compare this fight to his fights against Brewster and Williamson.
3. His left hand was getting the job done. The jab was constantly scoring, as well as the hook. The jab also kept Castillo confused and on the outside the whole four rounds.
4. His stance looked normal because he stood straight. If you check his fight with Brewster, you will see him fighting small. Well, I thought he looked like Quasimodo at times. His stance for his fight with Castillo was similar to his stance of old.
5. He was not trying that stupid holding technique that he tried against Brewster and that really made him look ridiculous. I mean he was clinching when he was dominating the bout. What? It was like clinching just to show that he could clinch.
All in all, I think this was the best he has looked since the loss to Corrie Sanders.
Yet, Boswell vs. McCline and Barrett vs. Beck were both televised on Showtime.
Right.....a DUAL card.....& on the lesser network.
O.K. ...if my reasoning didn't answer Guru's question.....then what is the answer ?
Oh yes....the world just hates the Klits, & for no reason. The poor, put-upon Klits & their long-suffering fans.
When will the "hating" stop ?
.Neither of those two got an HBO main event with their bouts against scrubs, did they ? Wlad did.
Yet, Boswell vs. McCline and Barrett vs. Beck were both televised on Showtime.
Guru & GranTorino.....
He catches flack because he is a higher-profile fighter than the other two, & because he still has people who believe he's destined for great things.

thats my point, why does wlad coming off of two losses catch flack for fighting castillo, while mccline and barrett catch no flack for fighting beck and boswell, which leads to them getting title shots or ranked as contenders?? wlad is allowed a mediorce opponent after the brewster disaster.... he should be given praise for taking a guy better than boswell or beck, who mccline and barrett fought without coimng off a loss.... and even worse example is that nobody has gotten on rahman's case for all the BUMS he's fought in the last 2 years....
that's a pretty fuckin good point, guru. Nice post.
Mercer couldn`t punch at world level anymore when Wlad thought him. He didn`t have the speed or spring in his punches to catch Wlad.
Jefferson isn`t world class, he is a journeyman who can bang but a journeyman non the less.
If you look closey at his opponents, Wlad hasn`t fought many world class punchers.
Axel Schulz (no punch )
Chris Byrd ( no punch )
Derrick Jefferson ( not much skill to land the punch )
Botha ( no punch )
Mercer ( in his 40`s and shot )
McCline ( never a puncher of note )
Corrie Sanders ( OUCH )
Lamon Brewster ( OUCH )
Darrayl Williamson ( OUCH but saved by the scorecard on tech dec! )
See the picture here?
you said "whenever he fights a puncher he gets KO'd", you can make all the excuses for them you want, but wlad has fought and beaten some guys that could punch.... mccline dropped byrd, who takes a great punch... jefferson was washed up?? thats weak.... mercer was old, but could still punch...
please be more rational... mercer, jefferson and mccline can all punch and wlad beat them easily, so its not true "whenever he fights a puncher he gets KO'd"... i think the brewster and purrity losses have more to do with stamina than wlad's ability to take a punch....
Thanks for the textbook reply Mr. Steward....Mercer was like 75 years old when he tangled with Vlad, and he wasn't that big of a puncher when he was young....McCline is totally feather-fisted, a KO win vs. Mike Grant proves nothing....Jefferson was totally washed-up by the time Vlad got to him
All of that is really irrelevant. The nuthuggers are still acting as if this is a great victory.
And you're right about the haters, too. They are as bad as the nuthiggers, just on the opposite side fo the fence. Of course if you had read the entire thread, you would have seen that I have already stated this, you dumbshit.
i agree, this is nothing to declare that wlad is BACK.... but it is a positive sign and much better than what happened with TOS... and yes the "haters" are being irrational, as "haters" usually are...
I make no excuses for anybody, just stating the facts, and the fact is that Vlad can't take a punch and whenever he fights a puncher he gets KO'd

guru, Owen "Hit The Deck" Beck and Rydell "I Suck" Booker both had the same history of horrible opponents leading into their respective matches. I think the difference is that Toney and Barrett had both just come off of stunning upset wins over Jirov and Guinn respectively. Toney totally destroyed Holyfield (Yes, Holy looked old in the fight, I know), which had never been done before, and Barrett had a very close MD loss over Mesi, who was supposed to destroy him. Wlad can't claim a stunning upset WIN in the past few years, or even a good showing against someone considered to be a all-time great or real contender. He does, however, have 2 KO losses over people who were supposed to be warmups.
I don't think either of them, should they win a belt, will be able to hold onto it for very long, but they have both earned a shot. Wlad still has to earn that.
If Wlad continues to work the way he did in that fight, and defeats his stamina/chin problem, he will hold a belt for many years. At least he can say that much where the other 2 can't.

You're just full of excuses, aren't you?

You conveniently leave out the fact that Castillo was Wlad's third choice for opponent. It's not his fault that Byrd pussied out, and that the other cat had visa problems. Castillo signed on a two week notice, you dumbshit. Give the man some credit.

I'm bored, so I totalled his prior oppositions' cuurent records
Pre-Moorer: 142-222-17 (37.2% winning)
With Moorer: 189-226-18 (43.6% winning)
Do you still think he was a legimate competitor for Wlad? If you honestly do, you must not think much of Wlad.
Like I've said before, I have no qualms with Wlad working his way up slowly. I just think that some of the serious nuthuggers on here are making it seem like the Second Coming of Christ. It's not.

Look, not to sound like a whiner, but some of you guys are implying that Wlad "nuthuggers" are making more out of this fight than it is. While it didn't prove a whole lot, I think we're forgetting that some of these "haters" actually picked Castillo to win by KO in the pole lol
Vlad has fought only 2 big punchers his entire career:
Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster
basically Vlad is 0-2 vs. guys who actually had a chance to beat him
(McCline was too soft, Mercer was too old, and Castillo was too small)
You're just full of excuses, aren't you?
Well, let's see, he did beat McCline. That's just about as big and powerful as you can get.
Yeah, but McCline is a bitch and he will always fear Wlad because of his power.
guru, Owen "Hit The Deck" Beck and Rydell "I Suck" Booker both had the same history of horrible opponents leading into their respective matches. I think the difference is that Toney and Barrett had both just come off of stunning upset wins over Jirov and Guinn respectively.
True, but when you step back and take a look at those two wins now, neither of them look very impressive considering what Jirov and Guinn have been up to recently.
I have watched all of his fights he does the same thing, wlad beats muthafuckas up, until they start fighting back...He has alwasy had a good jab and right hand, he just has a suspect chin...so what did I miss, and for your information, castillo has a brother who is now a heavyweight that used to be a cruiserweight...
You missed the fact that jab, right hand, and nearly everything else good about him was missing in action against TOS.
The question is can he b good vs pressure fighters with good size and power.
Well, let's see, he did beat McCline. That's just about as big and powerful as you can get.
