Think about it, seriously. How confident were people that Jones would beat Ruiz. Personally I know many people picked Ruiz to win and many Jones fans felt unsure about the outcome.
I remember for me, I was very nervous about the fight and even shaking somewhat during the affair. Before the fight I felt Roy had about a 50% chance to win whereas in other fights I felt more like 100%.
I wish I had a dollar for every time someone told me that before the fight.
I would be a rich bastard, who is really "rich".
Hey run w/knives...
U gotta pic and how old are u?

i knew roy would handle ruiz, i won so many bets. all my freinds/family were sayin roy was dumb for going to heavy and that once ruiz hit him with a good shot the fight was over.

Yea I know what you mean. I was so up in his invincibleness after the first round where he dominated. Then boom and I was sitting slackjawed unable to accept what had happened. And then I managed to convince myself it was a lucky punch (though i still think it was a bit of a lucky punch) and was sunk after the defeat to Glen. The worst thing is that in his prime he could have school both of them...
i know i couldnt believe what i had seen, i wanted to kill someone but i think thats what tarver came there to do, he knew he wasnt going to let the fight go to the judges so he timed jones perfectly and landed a bomb. tarver just picked his spot.

the most nervous i was for a fight was tarver vs jones 2 because tarver pushed roy to the limit and i thought it would be very close fight like the first one.... i hate that fight especially cause roy looked so good in the first round but....
I knew Roy Jones was gonna win, cuz at the point of his career, he was considered unstoppable. However, I did feel nervous because he was gonna face a man taller and much bigger than him, and also outweighs him by 30lbs. When I saw the first round of the fight, I was thinking maybe this will be a tough fight because Ruiz stunned him with two big punches, but Roy kept hitting back. After I saw the second round, I knew for sure Roy was gonna dominate.
I thought that Ruiz was going to Ko him but I was dead wrong. Still, how come some posters say that Jones could Ko Ruiz? John Ruiz is a very rugged and tough fighter who has only been cleanly knocked down once since he started his string of important fights in 2000.
Please don't bring back the same crap about David Tua. That was in 1996 or something.
My friend and I had talked about it a lot in school, when we heard that Jones was going to take on Ruiz. He said Ruiz was going to beat him, and I said that Jones could take him, because he was so much faster. I didn't think he could take too many of his shots, but I did think he could win.
I also thought Jones would KO or TKO Johnson before 6.
I thought Roy could pull it off, but I didn't know what was going to happen.
But when I saw Roy in the ring (I remember he took his robe off and turned around and his back looked massive) I felt better about it.
One thing's for sure; anyone who thinks Roy losing weight after that fight didn't effect him should watch the right hand Ruiz hits him with in the 1st round. That was a big shot, and Roy took it well and fired back.
That was a great win for Jones. Its just too bad the toll moving back down took on him.
I thought Jones would win a boring UD...
I figured Ruiz could bear hug and frustrate Jones and land enough to make it interesting, and when he came out and charged Jones into the ropes and then landed a solid shot that momentarily wobbled Jones in the first, I thought Ruiz was gonna win...but after that Jones dominated and I was a bit disappointed but a little impressed as well...
i thought had roy gotten hit it would have been over (and i'm a big roy jones fan)...that first round have be a heart attack when ruiz hit him with two big shots...but after the mid rounds i knew rjj had it under control...but IMO his best was his first tarver fight...crippled with the weight loss he dug deep and fought his guts out...
Yeah that was crazy in the 1st round when Roy got stunned, but then after that RJJR. just dominated Ruiz.

Do ya think he would have KO'd Ruiz had he not messed up his hand with that punch?
I think that would have been a definite possibility. RJJ had obvious trouble with his power after that. Being he is the most accurate puncher of all time, That "pick and choosing" shots was helping Ruiz out big time. If he would have let his hands go, regardless of the pain.
He might have finished the job.
But that's his style, and it has worked for him the most part. "what aint broke, dont fix it."

I thoguht roy was gonna frustrate ruiz and possibly tko him..at that time i thought roy jones could beat anyone even vitali.
LOL :haha: I remember that, I used to think Roy Jones was invincible. I mean Roy Jones is still the man but he once was unstoppable.
hmm
You know Roy sprained his wrist on Ruiz's head midway through the fight I believe it was. It was with a very hard shot that all the announcers took note of. Do ya think he would have KO'd Ruiz had he not messed up his hand with that punch?
I thought Roy was going to win but I am going to honest there was a little doubt in my mind. Mainly because Ruiz is a heavyweight and I wasn't sure how he would react to the power of a big guy.
9/10 of my friends said Ruiz was going to win. Half of them, said the exact same line:
"Dude, he has never been hit by a heavyweight. He is going to get knocked out."
They thought I was crazy, when I was telling them RJJ was going to knock Ruiz out. I was suprised he took him the distance, and I figured he was going to knock him out cold by the mid rounds. If they were to rematch today, I think the same story would be played out once again.
Ruiz Sucks, RJJ is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Top 10 easily IMO. I would rank him somewhere around the pimp in my signature.
