Now that Juan DIaz is out you still gonna order that espn PPV,i know theres other good fights on there, but this was the one i was looking forward to the most.
heres the article btw.
"April 16, 2005 - Boxingtalk.com has been informed that undefeated WBA lightweight titlist Juan "The Baby Bull" Diaz suffered a cut over his left eye in sparring earlier today. Diaz was scheduled to defend his title against Ebo Elder as part of ESPN's stellar pay-per-view show just one week from today. Diaz's trainer Ronnie Shields has confirmed to Boxingtalk that the cut required stitches and the fight is definitely OFF. REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (4:30 PM ET) Update: Undefeated bantamweight Raul Martinez has been inserted into the opening television slot for the April 23 ESPN pay-per-view fight card from Caesars Palace, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Martinez will challenge Larry Olvera (5-3-2, 4 KO’s) in a six round bout, which was selected for the broadcast following the cancellation of the Diaz-Elder WBA world championship contest due to a cut suffered by Diaz in sparring."
Me to, I am saving my money for better fights.
I will still order and record the wlad fight. I don't mind paying $3 for a fight it's a break from $50. although i did want to see Diaz
Nope a friend of mine is ordering but Tracy enlightened me that ESPN use to trash HBO/SHO for making ppvs and now they are doing it...So for their betrayal they wont get my hard earned money.
Overall it is a good card but it doesnt really excite me in anyway...I dont care for any of the fighters on the card.
I am saving my money for Trinidad/Wright and Mayweather/Gatti (of course depending on the undercard)
Also I order all of Kings ppv fights, It is the only way I get to see my favorite heavyweight fight and his cards are usually stacked with decent names...
Holyfield vs Donald
Rahman vs Meehan
Byrd vs Mccline
Ruiz vs Golota
Overall that was a pretty decent card for a heavyweight card and didnt mind shelling out the money especially since replays are not their the following week.

I was seriously considering buying this PPV, it looked great, and I'm a huge fan, and the price....and so on...but now, with my own financial situation on top of the Diaz debacle, I just can't afford it. I'm just gonna save up for Trinidad-Wright now, and then worry about whether to buy Mayweather-Gatti, Hopkins-Taylor in July and/or De La Hoya - (hopefully) Judah in September...
Damn, when did 50 bucks become the norm for PPV? The ESPN price WAS great for the value, and is still very good, but I have to carefully plan and save to afford 3 PPVs for the rest of this year, and the Diaz injury dropped this one off my radar...
i bet you paid twice as much to watch don kings heavyweight crap last december and klitmoes last fight.
I didn't buy Don King's heavyweight bullshit last year.
And the Klitchko/Williams card was one of the best fight cards I'd seen in a couple of years. Every fight on the card was great.
When you guys buy PPV's that aren't filled with the very top names in boxing, you're encouraging promoters to make more and more average cards into PPV "events". The more it happens, the greater the chance that sometime in the near future, every fight we see will be a PPV fight.
Any true boxing fan would order this, Diaz or no Diaz.
Bullshit. Any true boxing fan would BOYCOT PPV fights entirely unless it's a huge event, with strictly top billed fighters and no less than 4 hours of great boxing.
Definitally still ordering it, ESPN is on to something- instead of one good fight, one decent undercard fight and a bunch of shit to fill time for a whopping fifty dollars, they put together a top to bottom entertaining card at almost half the price! What a novel idea!
Yeah, it's a shame about the cut, I talked to Ronnie Shields (Juans' trainer) about it last Saturday morning, he said it is a particularly bad cut, jagged, about an inch or so long and right on the crease of the eyelid itself. It will take some time to heal, but he said it was a very delicate place to have to get sewn up. It required a very talented (and expensive) surgeon to get the job done right. Too bad because Juan is a very talented fighter...

Yeah I'm still gonna order the fight. I'm looking forward to watching the Margarito - Cintron fight. Cintron is one of the top two current Puerto Rican fighters (him and Cotto) and Margarito is a tough Mexican WBO champ that has a really high punch output. He's fearless and gets busy. Hopefully Cintron won't run around and will get down and dirty to make this an exciting fight. From what I've read, Cintron took it to his last opponent who had decent punching power. I wanna see him try that against Margarito. It should be a good fight. Whoever wins this fight is gonna be propelled to superstar level and both of these fighters know it. A lot is riding on this fight.
I was looking forward to watching the Diaz title fight too but now I'm looking forward to watching my hometown prosepect from San Antonio, Raul Martinez, who's fighting instead.
That's good ESPN is getting in the mix with pay per view fights. The more competition for pay per view dollars, the better for the viewers. It means cheaper PPV fights with good matchups.
Any true boxing fan would order this, Diaz or no Diaz.
I think its still a good card, but like I have said before I am saving my money for Gatti/Mayweather and Trinidad/Wright.
Yeah why not. Sounds like a $30 card even with out it.
The card wasn't worth 10 cents WITH Diaz-Elder, now it's barely worth a penny....c'mon guys, 2 complete mismatches and a Boxing After Dark-style main event, being shown on pay-per-view?!?! Let me save everyone the trouble: Mosley UD, Brock UD, and Cintron by a controversial SpD (it's a Main Events card, NO WAY that Margarito wins any close rounds)
I didnt really care about the Diaz fight...
I wanna see Margarito-Cintron, Mosley-Estrada, and I wont mind seein McCline-Brock and watch them trade some bombs
