With Vitali out of the picture does this mean that if James Toney wins he will be the true heavyweight champion?
If refuse to accept an interim champion that lost to John Ruiz or and interim champion who lost to Joe Mesi.
Chris Bryd might have a claim to be the best champion out there because he would have held a belt the longest.
In my opinion if James Toney wins and then fights Chris Bryd the winner of that fight would be the real champ. As long as Vitali isn't around.
Vitali has done less than all of the belt holders (aside from Lame ass Lamon) to be considered champion.
What has Byrd done besides been given a gift decision, a gift draw, and a win in a very close fight?
SHOULD and will is two different things though, Mind you Ruiz will smother your upper body and take your shots away. He does it with all of his fighters hell Rahman should have obliterated him and Ruiz just killed that mans career.
The blueprint to beat Ruiz is the Tua way which no heavyweight can or will be able to do. Then their is the Jones way to beat Ruiz you have to have great footwork and speed in your legs. Sure Toney has fast hands but those wont matter when he cant get the shots off on Ruiz as Ruiz is hugging him to much. To beat Ruiz you have to stay on the outside and use your jab and follow through with hooks...I wouldnt recommend uppercuts on Ruiz either, he will grab your arm and pull you in.
A good example of beating Ruiz is to watch the Jones fight, but during the first few rounds in the Golota fight Andrew stayed on the outside and gave Ruiz a beating....
You get close you lose, Ruiz is like messing with fire...You will get burned.
Now that is one hell of a post, you nailed it! And so did Jones Jr. by the way, he won the fight with ease and made Ruiz look absolutely foolish for even being in the ring with Roy, he was totaly outclassed...

If Toney beats Ruiz and then goes onto fight Byrd then YES he will be considered the TRUE heavyweight champion.
Unfortunately in my book there are 2 Byrd and Ruiz...Both have the best resumes and fought the best of the best...Of course Byrd comes in second place...RUIZ IS THE MAN AT HEAVY!
Hopefully come April 30th Toney takes it away and ACTUALLY keeps up the high caliber of opponents Ruiz has and doesnt defend it on Fox Sports against the Rydell's you know?
I want the winner of Ruiz/Toney to fight Byrd plain and simple.
He will be considered heavyweight champ by your standards, but to 80% of the Worlds population and Ring Magazine he will only be second best next to Vitali.
Unless you fast on your feet styles mean shit as Ruiz smothers the upperbody and that is where Toney is remotely quick at....
This is just my personal opinion on this fight:
-I know that Ruiz usually holds and wins
-I know he smothers his opponents when they come in
-But the last time he fought someone on the skill level of Toney he was beaten badly.
-I know that Toney isn't as fast on his feet as Jones
-I think Toney will find away to make Ruiz pay when they tie up
-I think Toney is just too good of a fighter for Ruiz and will end up either stopping him or getting a wide UD.
-This isn't an out of shape Hasim Rahman or an old Andrew Golata
-This is a hungry fighter who will be a hall of famer when he retires
-James Toney should and will win this fight
-THE END :D
Yeah they have two different styles...

The Rock is known for his athletisim not his boxing skills. I don't think that you can compare the fight that Rock and Toney bring to the table.

There is also the Holyfield way. Which was also stay outside and box. I think there may also be the James Toney way. When has Ruiz ever fought against an inside fighter like Toney?

When Ruiz holds Toney should throw two hooks to the body and then come up the middle with the uppercut.

Goosen and King and buddies and King got options on Ruiz....Toney disrespects King in the media front but gives him respect behind the curtain....Otherwise he would have waited for his shot at the WBC title.
If Ruiz hugs Toney loses.

I think if Toney will beat Ruiz that Byrd vs Toney will be unlikely. I don't think Toney is under Don King promotions and for Don King to lose another title if Toney is succesful against Byrd wouldn't be favorable for him. Unless Toney becomes mandatory I don't think we will see Byrd vs Toney.

If James Toney beats Ruiz by KO or TKO then yes he is the true heavyweight champion. I think Byrd can beat Toney without problems. Toney is overweight and outof shape, Byrd would win by scorecards. Ruiz can beat Toney if he uses his hugging technique well this fight or if he suprises Toney and goes all out in a slug fest. When Vitali Klitschko comes back its lights out for Toney.
