i dont think some of the federations should have them
they endup being mismatches.
i mean it bothers me that some times the skill
level between #1 and #2 are soo big in
ceritain federations. i think some shouldn't have the
right to force their champs to fight anybody if
the mis-match is soo great between the two fighters
what do you guys think?
There should be Mandatory title defenses however the rankings should be a lot better how the hell is Fana ranked #1 by the WBC... and its messed up like that all across the board.
Are people trying to say that this guy did not deserve a title shot?

Could anyone have really seen this coming?

thats what i mean
im all for the champion fihgtting the #2
but i dont like when the #2 is some sucky
ass guy. it only ends up in expensive payperviews that
are not even fun (any one has any examples)
i mean come on some of this #2 are not even credible fighters
Hakkar didn't deserve to be in the same gym as Hopkins so he definitely didn't deserve to be in the same ring. That was probably the most pathetic fight I have ever seen.

I don't agree with most manditory fights but sometimes it gives a guy who does deserve one a shot at a title. Look at a guy like Juan Lazcano he was deserving of at least a title shot but never got one until he fought Castillo for the vacant title. The man fought about 3 or 4 title eliminators. Antonio Tarver had to become the manditory across the board before he got his shot. It helps in some cases but most of the time the manditory fighter is bullshit.
I think it solely depends on who the champion is, as well as the challenger, as well as the title at stake.

If a fighter doesn't want to deal with mandatory defenses, he can relinquish his belt. I have no problem with federations having mandatories. Hopefully, if the value in the belts takes a beating, the mandatory challengers will be credible opponents...
I agree with mandatory fights only if it is the #1 contender at the time. That is the one who should fight the champ every time. If you always take on the best and continue winning no one will ever doubt you.
Mandatory challengers have always brought mixed emotions from boxing fans. On one hand, the mandatories are often heavy underdogs going into the fight and don't really stand a chance of winning. On the other hand, it gives a guy a shot at the title (ready or not) and usually brings out the best in both fighters. And when an upset happens, it's generally in spectacular fashion.
There has to mandatories... Otherwise the corruption in boxing would just go up and UP!... LOL!
You could hold a division to ransom, and pick and choose the easiest fighters to defend your belt against.
Also, if you were a really good fighter but didn't sell many tickets, you'd never get a shot at the World champion despite beating every other top contender. That's just not fair.
But like McKay said... The ranking systems have already been corrupted. The ranking systems seem to be done by how many tickets you can sell, how much percentage sanctioning fee you're gonna be able to make for the governing body... LOL!...
It's such a mess... LOL!...
yeah but some of the mandatories are
soo mismatched the only thing they are
is like expensive sparring setions.
i mean its good that some fighters
have to fight the second best guy
but when the second best is nothing
compared to the champion is not fair for
the public.
Mandatory defences would be cool by me if the ranking system had any credibility to it whatsoever. I like James Toney but how did he become #1 contender by beating Rydell Booker, and how did Rahman become WBC #1 contender by beating Kali Meehan.
yeah i agree until their rank system becomes credible
they should analyze the possible match and decide.
