Hey round 1. That's awesome that you are from el paso because so am I. I was also at the fight on saturday and I had a good time. I believe the best fight was the Montiel--hernandez fight. Montiel was freaking awesome!!!! The way he was using the ring and his foot work was awesome. He had tremendous handspeed also. He is the real deal!! Fana was twitching after MAB layed him out. Actually felt bad for the african cause that was a brutal knockout.
Hey round 1 if you don't mind where do you live? I live in the northeast next to andress high school.
I'm just curious cause I find it cool that 2 people from el paso are on boxingscene. I'm also 20 years old and attend EPCC. I'm thinking about starting to train at SAN JUAN gym. Know anything about it?
These big guys are always playing with the numbers to their benefit.
Here in El Paso, where the fight was held, we were told that the fight was going to be blacked out for PPV locally. If you wanted to see the fight, you better pay to and go to the venue.
On Sat.morning, they announced that the event was sold-out and for everybody else to hurry-up and order the PPV service.
The event was two thousand tickets short of selling out. 10,100 tickets sold on a 12,000 capacity arena.
So who's fooling who here, when they release the PPV numbers, they are going to inflate these figures to make it sound like a huge success, and of course they will include PPV buys in Africa to justify their numbers.

You do realize you can call your satellite people, and pay for ONE DAY of Showtime to get the fight, and that's all you owe? Twelve bucks divided by 30 days...and no service charge (at least in directv's case; I've added and removed channels a handful of times at no charge)
24.95 and you get one more undercard, that's it...
Did you read it's cool of them to fool the public?
I have showtime and it only costs me 4 dollars a month, which isnt bad.....But in the case of someone who doesnt have it $24.95 isnt crazy but stupid when you can do exactly what you say...Infact if you got digital cable and can order through a remote hit the damn thing to order when the fight starts and when it is over and call the cable company and be like hey, I hit it by accident...I dont want this boom....
They do that with all major fights I believe...Which is cool of them and kudos for them to fool the public into paying extra when the channel costs just a few bucks.
They did it with Zab and Spinks as well...$24.95 is fair but when you are charging $49.95 for tyson/ettienne their is a problem (well a problem with the people who order it)
I think it is cool on Sho's part...They also released official dvd of Corrales vs Freitas....It's NICE

About the Tyson-Williams fight,
If I remember correctly, the fight was also on showtime. But it had a ppv option to those who didn't want to order showtime. Even though ordering the damn channel was cheaper. I'm almost postive they did the same with Corrales/Freitas.
That was the case with the Etienne fight and with any America's Fight Night telecast.
However, the Williams fight fell on July 30, a Friday, and was strictly a PPV (which sucked for those of us who were buying the next night's Morales card as well)
The next week, they replayed Tyson-Williams at the front of the Corrales-Freitas fight for free.

It was a mandatory, sometimes big time fighters are forced to fight them. It is a clean act by Barrera and Golden Boy. Golden Boy could have gladly paid a donation to the organization in which Barrera holds the title to and have Fana step aside. But that would have been corrupt in itself and fighting a mandatory is anything BUT corrupt.
HAKKAR!!!!
No but previous bad PPVs are not the point here.
Just cause Barrera is a big name , is no reason to get the average person to pay for this mismatch.
DLH talked about cleaning up boxing, oh he is cleaning up ok, but not like he said.
I cannot believe it was PPV to see live that is outrageous.
Oscar DLH was a very good fighter and didi an awful lot for the sport of boxing, ametuer and professional.
He talked a lot about , as a promotor, "working for the fighter", as opposed to the fighters working for him.
Then regular public are asked to pay for serious mismatches as the main event. That sh!t is wrong, I have no doubt DLH could not done that, I read somewhere it was up to HBO?
But I am doubtful of that.
Barrera is a NAME, sure it was a bad call to make it ppv. But it was GBP "VIVA MEXICO". Meaning that GoldenBoy paid HBO their standard fee to air a fight under the hbo ppv banner. King does it all the time it is just business. If you had the money you could put Reggie Strickland on HBO PPV.
IT ISNT THAT BIG OF A DEAL, people pay more (50 bucks) for other ridiculous cards.
How about Fiesta De la hoya?
Lara vs Raimerez
Navarro vs Hurtado
Jauregui vs Johnson
Lario vs Kiatlisakchicchoi
Would you pay for that?
Shit.
I cannot believe it was PPV to see live that is outrageous.

And Tyson vs Williams was estimated closer to 230 000 buys:

Very true Tyson/williams did 117k
Klitschko/Williams 144k
Actually, it was said the Klitschko Williams fight didn't even do 100 000 buys. HBO fudged the numbers after saying that even at 120 000 buys it lost Millions of dollars.
http://www.boxing-central.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5531
That would still eclipse Williams-Tyson, Klitschko-Williams, and Ruiz-Golota...

Ruiz-Golota-Ouch I am not sure, I never caught the numbers do you remember them? I do remember them being low but bigger than klitschko vs williams...But damn that ppv card was stacked and still drew poorly.
El-Also Barrera vs Pacman was on After Dark...To be a success on HBO you have to draw a 5.0 rating to become a part in their stable (that includes the after dark series as well) what those ratings mean in a nutshell in the ballpark range if a fight gets a rating of 5.0 for example that means roughly 5 million people viewed that fight.
not even 5% of that probably ordered this ppv, the hbo telecasts have always drew larger than the ppvs.
My uncle bought it at his house and we were there for a family get-together. I didnt even remember he was fighting on Saturday till my cousin asked me about the fight. I told him it wasnt worth the money but my uncle is well off and likes Barrera a lot too so he got it anyway.
I bet the PPV buys would be equivalent to putting the fighter on HBO After Dark, LoL. Can you imagine that? Barrera goes from PPV status down to Boxing After Dark if they actually went through with their rules. Of course Barrera won't go back down there though it's just a thought. I hope they did horrid so they can stop wasting money. Boxing is a very risky buisness sport with money. Why the heck would you spend money on promoting and advertising a fight if it won't generate the money back in the first place? It's dumb decisions like these that could kill boxing.
My cable companies local area had 2,100 buys....Not bad really when the really top names only do about 5-7k with a population of about 40k.
I have a good friend down at the cable company and she deals with the indemand service down their.
It wont be anywhere near like 300k buys probably wouldnt even reach 200....210k wouldnt surprise me but I am leaning between the ballpark of 160-175 Barrera has loyal fans.
Morales vs Hernandez did fairly well and while Hernandez was a champion he wasnt a household name.
That would still eclipse Williams-Tyson, Klitschko-Williams, and Ruiz-Golota...
